  1. The full moon, Friday the 13th didn’t have much affect on the teams that were ranked 1-7 as they all came out as victors. Teams ranked 8-20 on the other hand did not fare so well going 3-10 collectively. The top 10 1. Frederick Douglass (5A, 4-0, RPI .671) Last week: The Freddy D dominance over the Fayette County Public Schools continued with a 49-0 win over Dunbar. The defense continues to impress giving up just 67 yards to the Bulldogs. QB Josh McClurg has another solid night passing for 3 TDs and rushing for another. Dane Key and Darius Neal added 2 scores each. This Week: The FCPS tour continues as Henry Clay (6A, 0-3) comes out to the Farm. Henry Clay is rated as the second best public school in the city by most polls. Though I’m not sure it will be enough to knock off the Broncos. 2. Boyle County (4A, 4-0, RPI .648) Last Week: The Rebels took care of business against a solid Mercer County team winning with a final score of 43-7. QB Reed Lanter passed for 241 yards and 2 scores. One was to younger brother Cole Lanter and the other was to Reese Smith. The Boyle D gave up their first touchdown of the year on a well designed trick play. This Week: The entire offseason everyone said the middle of the Boyle schedule was a gauntlet and would show the state what Boyle was really made of. Game one of the gauntlet has arrived. CAL (3A, 3-1) will come to Rebel stadium looking to give Boyle their first defeat of the season. 3. Scott County (5A, 4-0, RPI .701) Last Week: The Cardinals handled Bryan Station 49-7 moving to 4-0 on the season. The Cardinals were bolstered by a stiff run defense that allowed just 7 yards on the ground. Offensively Jeremy Hamilton, Philip Garner and Bronson Brown all had rushing scores. This Week: Emmerich Manual (IN) comes to Georgetown looking to get their first win. Unfortunately for Manual all signs point to a big win by Scott County. 4. Lexington Catholic (4A, 3-1, RPI .734) Last Week: The Knights had the script from the Cov Cath game flipped on them and needed a 4th quarter comeback to defeat DeSales 34-31. QB Beau Allen continued his impressive weekly stat line by passing for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns and added an additional 61 yards and a score on the ground. Receivers Jackson Corbett and Blake Busson combined for 12 receptions 255 yards and a score for the Knights. This Week: Lexington Catholic will make the trip down Clays Mill to take on Lexington Christian Academy (2A, 3-1). The schools have split the last 2 meetings and both will bring high octane offenses. Look for a high scoring affair in this matchup. 5. Taylor County (3A, 4-0, RPI .648) Last week: Tre Goodin showed his versatility this past Friday night as he completed the offensive scoring trifecta by rushing, receiving and passing for a touchdown in Taylor County’s 45-8 win over Green County. Wes Oliver was his usual self with 97 yards and a couple of TDs on 7 carries. So far this season it looks like Taylor County hasn’t missed a beat from last years state semifinal team. This Week: Taylor County will play up a few classes and take on 6A Simon Kenton (2-2). The Pioneers are coming off a 28-7 loss to Highlands and will be looking to get back on track vs the Cardinals. 6. Franklin County (4A, 4-0, RPI .712) Last week: The Flyers made a statement that they are a team that is ready to be a contender in class 4A. They took care of Anderson County 53-19. QB Nick Broyles continues to put up impressive numbers, he was 17/25 for 358 yards and 4 TDs to go with 68 yards and another TD in the ground. Top target was WR Fred Farrier who caught 8 of those completions for 174 yards and 3 TDs. Franklin County is a team that has seemingly improved each week so far and if they continue that trend they will be a very tough out come playoff time. This Week: Franklin County will hit the road to take on a hot Woodford County (5A, 3-1) squad that has won 3 consecutive games. 7. Lexington Christian Academy (2A, 3-1, RPI .645) Last Week: LCA took on a much larger 6A team in Madison Central but that didn’t slow down the Eagles as they were able to win big 45-15. QB Jayden Barnhardt threw for 306 yards with 4 scores. Xavier Brown wasn’t able to much running the ball but showed he has hands as well with 7 receptions for 129 yards and 2 TDs. This Week: LCA will play host to fellow Lexington Parochial school, Lexington Catholic. The Eagles will be looking to avenge last years 54-13 loss to the Knights. 8. Mercer County (3A, 3-1, RPI .640) Last week: Mercer couldn’t overcome Boyle County’s fast start and stingy defense falling to the Rebels 43-7. Mercer doesn’t take a hit in this weeks rankings due to the fact that almost every team ranked below them also lost and that all those teams probably wouldn’t fare much better against Boyle. This week: The Titans will host Garrard County (3A, 2-1) who is coming off of a bye week. Garrard will test the front 7 of the Mercer defense as they play a style of old school power football. 9. LaRue County (3A, 2-2, RPI .553) Last Week: A 36-35 win over Campbellsville has helped move the Hawks back into the top 10 after a rough 0-2 start to the season. Granted those two losses don’t look too bad now that the teams they lost to are a combined 8-0. The most noticeable difference for LaRue is that they have finally gotten RB Jeremiah Belton on track as he has rushed for 100+ yards in back to back weeks. In the two losses he had a combined 59 yards rushing. This week: LaRue will welcome a Nelson County (3A, 0-4) team looking for their first win. Nelson has had a running clock against them in every game so far. 10. Campbellsville (A, 2-2, RPI .537) Last week: Playing their 4th straight team from class 3A the Eagles fell just short against previously mentioned LaRue County 36-35. Malachi Corley was huge for Campbellsville once again gaining 109 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries as well as another 94 yards and 2 scores on 3 receptions. Corley also led the defense with 20 tackles. Even after 2 close losses to a couple of good 3A teams Campbellsville still looks like one of the top 2 or 3 teams in class A. This Week: Campbellsville will host Green County (2A, 0-4). The Eagles should have no problems in this one and face a very manageable schedule moving forward. Teams 11-15 11. Anderson County (4A, 2-2, RPI .513) Last week: A game Anderson needed to win to show central Kentucky that they are a threat in 4A did not go in their favor. Franklin County handled the Bearcats by a score of 53-19. Anderson County has not reported any stats on the season. This Week: the schedule doesn’t lighten up for Anderson as Henderson County (6A, 4-0) comes to Lawrenceburg. Henderson is led by QB Sam Elliot who has 830 yards passing with 10 touchdowns to just one interception. They also feature RB Logan Green who averages 112 yards per game. 12. Henry Clay (6A, 0-3, RPI .338) Last Week: Henry Clay fell to Pulaski County 28-7. Henry Clay scored first and pushed Pulaski for a half. The Blue Devils have probably faced the toughest schedule to start the season out of all of the central Kentucky teams. This Week: Unfortunately the schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Blue Devils will go to the Farm to take on Frederick Douglass (5A, 4-0). Henry Clay will have to find some offensive success against a Douglass defense that allows just 120 yards and 3.5 points per game. 13. George Rogers Clark (6A, 2-1, RPI .460) Last week: GRC took care of Montgomery County 42-22. RB Azariah Israel had a night to remember and the performance of the year so far. He had 11 carries for 346 yards and 6 touchdowns! This week: Southwestern (5A, 1-3) will visit GRC looking to get back in the win column after consecutive losses. 14. East Jessamine (5A, 2-2, RPI .609) Last week: the Jags took a trip to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky to take on one of the top teams in class A in Paintsville. East was unable to return home victorious falling 41-35. RBs Miles Valdon and Donovan Motley combined for 309 yards and 4 scores while the Jaguars racked up 449 yards on the ground as a whole. This week: First year program Great Crossing (5A, 0-4) will come to Nicholasville hoping to get their first win as a program. East should be able to get some younger players some experience in this one. 15. Tates Creek (6A, 1-3, RPI .454) Last week: Creek was held scoreless in their 40-0 defeat to North Hardin. Creek is helped in their ranking by their victory over Madison Southern who has come alive as of late and a couple of their losses are to teams that are ranked high in their respective classes. This week: FCPS foe Bryan Station (6A, 1-2) will make the trip across town. Stopping the Bryan Station ground game will be the key to getting Creek back into the win column. Teams 16-20 16. Madison Southern (5A, 2-2, RPI .350) last week, W 42-27 vs Danville. This week vs 5A Pulaski County. 17. Woodford County (5A, 3-1, RPI .534) last week, W 37-14 vs Great Crossing. This week vs 4A Franklin County. 18. Lincoln County (4A, 2-2, RPI .467) last week, L 25-24 vs North Laurel. This week vs 5A South Laurel 19. Danville (2A, 1-3, RPI .495) last week, L 42-27 vs Madison Southern. This week vs A Hazard. 20. Garrard County (3A, 2-1, RPI .587) last week, BYE. This week vs 3A Mercer County Teams on the rise 1. LaRue County- The Hawks have bounced back from 2 losses to open the year to win 2 straight. 2. Madison Southern- much like LaRue Southern has won back to back games after starting the season 0-2. Teams on the Decline 1. Anderson County- high expectations to start the season looked to be fulfilled after a solid 2-0 start but back to back losses now have the area wondering if the hype was for naught. 2. Washington County- The commanders had us on watch after their first 2 games outscoring their opponents 104-0. The last 2 weeks haven’t been so kind as they have fallen to Kentucky Country Day and Bardstown. Players of the Week 1. RB Azariah Israel, George Rogers Clark- 11 Carries 346 yards 6 TD 2. QB Nick Broyles, Franklin County- 17/25 358 yards 4 TD 0 INT. 12 carries 68 yards 1 TD 3. RB Cain Saucedo, Nicholas County- 24 carries 194 yards 4 TD 4. WR Fred Farrier, Franklin County- 8 receptions 174 yards 3 TD Last Weeks Game of the week Franklin County 53 Anderson County 19 This is my first selection that was not a close game or needed a 4th quarter comeback to win. Franklin County put on a offensive clinic in their route of Anderson putting 4A on notice that the Flyers plan on making noise. This weeks game of the week CKY #2 Boyle County vs Christian Academy of Louisville This will be Boyle’s toughest game of the year to date and the first of 3 consecutive games that will test the Rebels mettle. This game will feature 3 Power 5 commits in CAL’s John Young (Kentucky) and Boyle’s Reese Smith (West Virginia) and Landen Bartleson (Notre Dame).
  2. 5 Trinity 3 Scott County 3 Wayne County 1 Boyle County 1 St. X 1 Greenwood 1 Belfry 1 Western Hills 1 Ironton 1 Shelby County TB 49
  3. East Jessamine Conner Campbellsville Carroll County Dunbar Breathitt County
  4. He may very well be and later on in the season his carries may pick up. What I’m getting at, to Boyle, he is not as easily replaced at LB as he is at RB.
  5. He had an ankle injury in the preseason that forced him to miss game 1. Boyle tries to limit players going both ways as much as they can for the early part of the season. Sacco is more valuable at LB right now than he is as a RB which is why he isn’t getting a lot of carries.
  6. I agree with you. The close win over Madison Central was worrisome and time has only validated those concerns. I’ll give credit to Franklin county though. They’ve got me believing that they may make a nice run in the 4A playoffs.
  7. I definitely expected a much closer outcome. Nice win for the Flyers!
  8. 15-0 Boyle. 5 to go in the 1st. Smith and Bartleson with the TDs so far.
  9. Woodford County Bethlehem Pineville Newport Kentucky Country Day Shelby Valley
  10. 5 Lexington Catholic 3 Kentucky Country Day 3 Caldwell County 1 Paintsville 1 Central Hardin 1 Fern Creek 1 Wayne County 1 Franklin County 1 West Carter 1 Conner TB 56
  11. We are officially over 1/4 the of the way through the regular season. Central Kentucky had its first losses from teams in the top 5. Lexington Catholic coming up just short against Covington Catholic and Anderson falling to Mercer. The other 3 teams flexed their muscle and showed that they deserve to stay where they are. The Top 10 1. Frederick Douglass (5A, 3-0) Last Week: Douglass remains undefeated against FCPS opponents in their 40-0 win over Lafayette. The D dominated allowing just 9 yards of offense and spent a lot of time in the Lafayette backfield coming up with 11 tackles for loss. The offense who had a short field for most of the evening was led by QB Josh McClurg. He had 189 yards combined passing and rushing along with 2 TD. Dane Key showed what he can do on special teams with 2 returns for scores. This week: Frederick Douglass will look to extend their streak versus city opponents when they take the trip over to Dunbar (6A, 1-2). Don’t look for Dunbar to be a serious threat to the Broncos unblemished record so far. 2. Boyle County (4A, 3-0) Last week: Crosstown rival Danville was no match for the Rebels as Boyle rolled to a 59-0 win giving Chuck Smith his 200th victory at Boyle. The defense continued its scoreless streak while the offense was able to do whatever it pleased. RB Will McDaniel led the Rebels in yardage gaining 93 yards and 2 TD on 8 carries. This week: Boyle takes the short trip north to neighboring Mercer County (3A, 3-0). Mercer is coming off a thrilling victory over a Boyle district opponent, Anderson County. Several media outlets are naming this their game of the week as both teams look to move to 4-0. 3. Scott County (5A, 3-0) Last Week: Scott County removed some of the doubt that was generated from the week before by taking care of Manual 48-35. The Cardinal ground attack was once again led by Philip Garner. He accounted for 198 yards and 3 scores while Bronson Brown added another 105 yards. Brown also had a 55 yard Int return for a TD. QB Cade McKee provided some big plays with his arm throwing for 129 yards and 2 TD on just 3 completions. This week: Scott County will travel to Bryan Station (6A, 1-1). The defenders have had 2 weeks to prepare for this matchup but look for the Cardinals to handle their business this week. 4. Lexington Catholic (4A, 2-1) Last week: Lexington Catholic had Covington Catholic backed into the corner all night but couldn’t finish them off falling 39-38. Lex Cath turned heads around the state in this defeat and most assumed Covington Catholic would run away with the victory. Beau Allen had another impressive stat line completing 23 passes for 455 yards and 5 TDs and threw zero INTs. Blake Busson came up big in several 3rd and long situations. He had 3 receptions for 167 yards and 2 TDs. This week: 3A title contender DeSales (1-1) comes to Lexington Catholic for what should be another good test for the Knights. DeSales will be well rested as they are coming off of a bye and a 37-8 Win over Butler the week before that. 5. Taylor County (3A, 3-0) Last Week: Taylor County used two 4th quarter TDs to complete a come from behind 29-20 victory over cross town rival, Campbellsville. RB Wes Oliver came through with another good night for Taylor County providing 186 yards and 2 TDs. This week: Taylor County hits the road to take on Green County (2A, 0-3). Green County has yet to come close to victory in their 3 games so far. Look for Taylor to be able to play some guys that don’t normally get a lot of PT. 6. Franklin County (4A, 3-0) Last Week: The Flyers had little trouble with Collins, winning 46-7. Tariq Lester shined on both sides of the ball with 105 yards rushing and 2 scores to go along with 11 tackles, 3 TFL and a sack on the other side of the ball. QB Nick Broyles was solid as well completing 12/19 passes for 167 yards and 3 TD. He also had 6 carries for another 81 yards and a score. This week: Franklin County will play host to neighboring and fellow CKY top 10 Anderson County. Anderson will be looking to avoid back to back losses while Franklin looks to move to 4-0 and prove they are truly a contender in 4A. This game will be one to keep an eye on! 7. Lexington Christian Academy (2A, 2-1) Last Week: LCA went across the Ohio River to take on Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. The game was never in doubt for LCA even through the final score of 47-37 may indicate otherwise. WR Dearious Smith has a big night hauling in 12 catches for 243 yards and a TD. QB Jayden Barnhardt went 21/32 for 321 yards and 2 TD. He also added another 2 TDs on the ground. This week: LCA heads down to Madison Southern to take on Madison Central (6A, 0-3) in the Doc Sipple Bowl. Central will be looking to get their first win of the season while LCA will be looking to have a good week in preparation for next weeks matchup against Lexington Catholic. 8. Mercer County (3A, 3-0) Last Week: The Titans held off a furious Anderson come back attempt to win 15-13 this moving then into the top 10 for the first time this season. Mercer continues to ride their strong defense while the offense improves week to week. Defensively for the Titans Braeden Dunn led the way with 15 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack. Malachi Yulee led on the offensive side of the ball gaining 102 yards on 15 carries and a score. This week: Mercer County will host Boyle County (4A, 3-0) in a matchup of two ranked Central Kentucky teams. Nobody has been able to slow down the Rebels so far this season as they are averaging 50 Points per game offensively while their defense has yet to allow any points (the 7 against Bullitt Central was on a pick 6). The Mercer defense will be put to the test in this one. It’s a full moon Friday the 13th, who knows what kind of craziness will occur. 9. Anderson County (4A, 2-1) Last week: The Bearcats made it as far as the 4 yard line with under two minutes left looking to take the lead but were derailed by penalties and a turnover in their 15-13 loss to Mercer County. It has been hard to get a read on how good Anderson county is or what their ceiling is based on their 3 games so far. Next Week: Anderson gets a chance to show Central Kentucky what their potential is when they visit a quality Franklin County (4A, 3-0) squad. Their defense will be tested by the arms and legs of Flyer star QB Nick Broyles who has 927 total yards and 11 TDs over 3 games this season. 10. Campbellsville (A, 2-1) Last week: Campbellsville led Taylor County for the majority of the game before squandering their lead in the 4th quarter ultimately falling 29-20 to their rival. Malachi Corley has a knack for playing well against Taylor County. Last week he had 179 offensive yards on 17 touches and a TD while adding 14 tackles from the defensive side of the ball. Next week: The Eagles will take on their 4th consecutive 3A opponent when they hit to road to take on Larue County (3A, 1-2). Larue is coming off their first win of the season and will be looking to gain some momentum after a slow 0-2 start. Teams 11-15 11. Henry Clay (6A, 0-2) Last week: Henry Clay got to catch their breath after their rough outing vs St. X as the Devils had their Bye week. This week: Henry Clay welcomes Pulaski County (5A, 2-1) to town. The Maroons are coming off a narrow 23-22 victory over Corbin and are led by WR and EKU commit Jake Sloan (113 ypg). 12. East Jessamine (5A, 2-1) Last Week: East has a knack for playing in close games this season as all 3 games have been decided by a touchdown. They were able to knock off Dunbar by a score of 28-21. The Jags were carried by the legs of Dylan Moore who carried the rock 35 times for 162 yards and 3 scores. QB added another 124 yards on the ground as well. Next Week: East will travel into the mountains to take on Paintsville (A, 2-1). Paintsville is coming off a 1 point loss to A powerhouse Pikeville and two weeks removed from knocking off Beechwood 19-14. 13. Lincoln County (4A, 2-1) Last Week: Lincoln was able to bounce back from their OT loss to East Jessamine by taking care of West Jessamine 42-15. The Patriots collectively rushed for 330 yards and used their defense to keep West at bay. West Jessamine’s lone offensive score came late in the game against the younger Lincoln players. Next Week: Lincoln will head to North Laurel (5A, 1-2). The Jaguars will look to test the Patriots run defense as they come into this game averaging 273 ypg on the ground. 14. Danville (2A, 1-2) Last Week: The “Titletown Showdown” was a game to forget for the Admirals. Danville was completely dominated in all facets of the game en route to a 59-0 loss to Boyle County. The Ads were without suspended Sophomore RB Caleb Burns due to his ejection in the Bardstown game but I’m not sure how much of a difference it would have made. This week: Danville will look to return to their winning ways as they travel to Madison Southern (5A, 1-2) in the Doc Sipple Bowl. Southern is coming off a win over rival Madison Central. 15. LaRue County (3A, 1-2) Last week: The Hawks finally got into the win column with a 28-7 victory over Casey County. They were finally able to get RB Jeremiah Belton going as he tallied 129 yards on the ground. Defensively they were able to come up with 3 interceptions while returning one for a score. Next Week: LaRue will take on a top 5 class A team in Campbellsville (2-1) who will be hungry to get back to their winning ways after losing to their cross town rival. The key for the Hawks will be trying to slow down Campbellsville star Malachi Corley who has 519 total yards and 9 touchdowns over 3 games. Teams 16-20 16. Russell County (3A, 3-0) last week, W 28-26 vs Metcalfe Co. Next week, at 3A Casey County. 17. Washington County (2A, 2-1) last week, L 41-39 vs Kentucky Country Day. Next week, at 3A Bardstown. 18. Woodford County (5A, 2-1) last week, W 47-20 vs Bourbon County. Next week, at 5A Great Crossing. 19. Harrison County (4A, 2-1) last week, W 49-0 vs Great Crossing. Next week, vs Boyd County. 20. George Rogers Clark (6A, 1-1) last week, W 34-28 vs Tates Creek. Next week, at 5A Montgomery County. Teams on the rise 1. East Jessamine- The Jags have bounced back from their first game loss to win 2 straight over Lincoln County and Dunbar. 2. Harrison County- The loss to Newport to start the season isn’t looking so bad as Newport has moved into the BGP 2A top 10. The Breds have won since gotten wins over Mason County and Great Crossing. Teams on the decline 1. Tates Creek- the Commodores have suffered consecutive losses to Frederick Douglass and George Rogers Clark. The task doesn’t get much easier as they face North Hardin this week. 2. Danville- The game 1 blowout over John Hardin has lost its luster as JH is 0-3 and the Ads have since lost back to back games. Players of the week 1. QB Beau Allen, Lexington Catholic- 23/33 455 yards 5 TD 0 INT. 2. WR Dearious Smith, Lexington Christian Academy- 12 receptions 243 yards 1 TD. 3. RB Timmy Thompson, Berea- 11 carries 205 yards 5 TD. 4. RB Christian Hansford, Garrard County- 27 carries 293 yards 5 TD. 5. Jatavian Churchill, Washington County- 8/13 90 yards, 11 carries 269 yards 3 TD. Last Weeks Game of the week. Taylor County 29 Campbellsville 20 Campbellsville led for most of the game before Taylor County scored several times in the 4th quarter to overcome a 20-7 deficit and come out on top. This weeks Game of the Week CKY #6 Franklin County vs CKY #9 Anderson County Both teams are in the top 10 of this weeks Central Kentucky poll. Anderson County is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Mercer County while Franklin County will be looking to further prove they are a contender in class 4A.
  12. Well the Mercer Anderson game was a heck of a game. The problem is we didn’t learn anything about either team except that tonight they were pretty even.
