  1. Agree but think high school coaches play a huge part in a teams success on the field. I know they don't step on the field and make any plays but being able to use the talent you get and maximize and motivate it is HUGE.
  2. I'm hoping SV is the 2nd coming of Trinity and FTH best teams blended into one.
  3. Already a thread on this game but Ashland doesn't sound like a good bet to win if the scrimmage this morning is any indication.
  4. Like I said just throwing my opionion out their and they whipped Ashland many times in the past few years and as far back as the 60s and 70s. Ashland hasn't beat the Birds in a LONG time so don't think I'm trying to get a cheap shot in on them while they are struggling..
  5. Not in any way trying to throw the Birds under the bus. Most any fan base in this state not name Trinity would give anything to have their success.
  6. What % do you think a coach and or staff contribute to W's
  7. Yes I know working midnights and getting slap happy reading all the comments on their scrimmage got me thinking about how much a coach can win games and lose them. Seen many very very good Ashland teams lose to inferior teams because of coaching. The other thread about what position besides QB is most important and some answered coach also made me think about it also.
  8. Coming from an outsider Highlands reminds me of Ironton Ohio. First things first FTH playing up in class plays a huge part of their demise. When they were a 4A School one of their biggest strengths besides some great talent was platooning that talent. Talent drops off a bite and your platooning is negated by the fact the schools your playing have twice the boys to field their team. Most important is the coach and whether he saw the writing on the wall or erased the wall after he left the coach plays a huge part of a high school teams wins and losses. Do the Patriots have all those Rings without Bill on the sideline? Now back to Ironton. They were one of the most feared teams year in and out for many years under Bob Lutz, he retires and they are meadiocre at best hovering at 500 or worse. Side note Ashlands last title 1990 was due in part to Lutz losing the game to the Cats that season and telling our coach after that game to keep Juan Thomas at tailback. I said a few years back on this site or another to enjoy the ride you Highlands fans were on because it won't last forever. Good Luck and hope you make it back to your glory days but as you the faithful are finding out every good thing comes to an end. Good Luck this season.
  9. Hate they have injuries so early on but getting backups game experience with starters can only help the team down the road.
  10. Game is on Saturday Night!!
  11. Start midnights Friday so won't be able to make the scrimmage Saturday morning let me know how we look.
  12. Figured they would be a formable first game opponent and sounds like Ashland will have their hands full and need to play a very good game to win. Leaning toward making the trip to watch them over going to the Raceland Lawerence game.
  13. Anyone have info on Harlan County? Last years record? Style of play, etc?
  14. Who wins this first ever meeting?
  15. The Ashland-Harlan County game will be first ever meeting between them. Ashland-Johnson Central game always a big one too. Can the Tomcats get the monkey off their back.
  16. Yes it is they won't face many lineman this year that have verballed to Florida St and I think Ohio State or Tennessee and both are 6'6 6'7 around 300 pounds. They Spring Valley line up and play smash mouth.
  17. Soring Valley last season made the 3A (Highest class in WVA) title game but lost. During last years scrimmage Spring Valley was HUGE and man handled Ashland up front on both sides of the ball. Both of SV's BIG TIME D1 OL/DL are back so it will be interesting to see if Ashland can do anything against them in the trenches. Also is Adkins Ashlands backup QB who transferred going to be the starter for SV.
  18. 100 percent correct.
  19. Ashland QB Braxton Ratliff. Ashland will go as far as his legs and Cannon for an arm will take them. Don't think he will win it but could put up Monster stats. Also the RB from Johnson Central Jackson maybe one of the best backs in the State. Both are Juniors I believe.
  20. Ashland is headed to Camp as we speak and will be out their tonight
  21. Good question. All 11 are important and yes QB usually is considered most important. Going to say the Center on offense. They are the QB of the o-line and usually make the line calls on the fly. They also touch the ball on every snap. Defensively got to say Middle LB. They more often then not receive the signals from the sidelines, call the Defensive play in the huddle and adjust the D-Line and DBs according to how the Offense lines up.
  22. Don't think he will be the 2 at 7 on 7 though, but in a real game if Ratliff went out think he would move to QB.
  23. Colburn looks to me like the #2 QB at practice.
