Anyone have info on Harlan County? Last years record? Style of play, etc?

Last year they finished the season 4-7 with a 14-12 loss to Pulaski County in the first round of the playoffs. Pulaski County of course went on to the state championship game. Of their 7 losses four of them came from two state champions (Belfry and Johnson Central) as well as the two losses to 5A runner up Pulaski County. So their overall record is a bit deceiving. Outside of those games, their other three losses were all winnable games, for that matter the playoff game against Pulaski County was winnable.

They run a fairly balanced offense, but seem to focus on the ground game and time of possession a bit more when facing a tough opponent. They return 17 starters from last seasons team including the majority of their production on offense.

They are certainly a top 20 5A team, possibly a top 15 team so this will be a huge test for Ashland. I'll wait on my prediction until after Saturday's scrimmage, but at the moment I'm leaning toward Harlan County in this one.

Harlan County's got a lot of experience coming back. They return the starting QB, top two rushers, top two receivers, and a lot of size on the OL. Probably one of the bigger teams that Ashland will see this season.

Last year, they alternated between the wishbone and the spread. Personnel wise, they're probably better suited for the bone.

They went 4-7 last year against a pretty tough schedule and nearly upset 5A runner-up Pulaski County in the playoffs.

Figured they would be a formable first game opponent and sounds like Ashland will have their hands full and need to play a very good game to win. Leaning toward making the trip to watch them over going to the Raceland Lawerence game.

Start midnights Friday so won't be able to make the scrimmage Saturday morning let me know how we look.

You beat me to it, @JDEaston!

Haha, slow day at work today.

If you go, I hope you make it out of Harlan alive.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a Justified reference in a thread involving Harlan County!

It will be a tough win for Ashland in my opinion, especially with Ashland's starting center out and another lineman questionable. I've never been to Harlan but from pictures I've seen their facility is top notch, I may make the trip for this one myself.

I'll be out of town this weekend but will try and get some info on it.

I'm figuring this will be a 4 hour plus bus ride for Ashland. That's going to be tough. They will definitely leave early from school.

Tough drive to Harlan. It's a tough drive from Hazard to Ashland. I've made it a many of a time.
