Ashland - Spring Valley (WV) (Scrimmage Preview)

Featured Replies

Soring Valley last season made the 3A (Highest class in WVA) title game but lost. During last years scrimmage Spring Valley was HUGE and man handled Ashland up front on both sides of the ball. Both of SV's BIG TIME D1 OL/DL are back so it will be interesting to see if Ashland can do anything against them in the trenches. Also is Adkins Ashlands backup QB who transferred going to be the starter for SV.

This sounds like it will be a big test for Ashland. I like it when teams challenge themselves.

Who will be the starting center for Ashland while Big John is out? With Ashland's line being so young and missing their starting center, this scrimmage will certainly be a huge test for Ashland in the trenches. I like it though, it will certainly help them going forward.

Yes it is they won't face many lineman this year that have verballed to Florida St and I think Ohio State or Tennessee and both are 6'6 6'7 around 300 pounds. They Spring Valley line up and play smash mouth.

Line play should belong to Spring Valley. I think the one lineman already graduated and went to Tennessee. Still, with him gone, SV should be hard to handle up front. Ashland, even though has Ryan and Jordan as seniors on the line, will need help keeping SV out of the backfield. Last year Ratilff was running for his life and was sacked numerous times if I recall. Hopefully, this year they can give him some time. The qb situation should be the one to watch. Ratliff will be Ratliff, run when he can and find the open receiver whenever possible. However, I've heard good things about Adkins at Spring Valley from his family. Their All-state qb is injured and Adkins should be taking the majority of the snaps. I hear that he has been throwing it around well for them. Should be an interesting game. Go CATS!!!

Spring Valley JR Doug Nester is a 5 Star prospect at 6'5 295. He just committed to Ohio State

With a makeshift OL, will Ashland have enough beef to keep Spring Valley out of their backfield? Stone (center) is out, Jordan takes his spot, but I couldn't see who took Jordan's spot at tackle yesterday. Either way, I hope the inexperience doesn't hurt them too bad.

Hate they have injuries so early on but getting backups game experience with starters can only help the team down the road.

Very true, I just hope no injuries occur during this scrimmage. Getting backups key game type experience is extremely important. Keeping everyone healthy is also high on the coaches agenda. I know that the injury bug has apparently hit Spring Valley, with their all-state qb out. Again, hopefully everyone can stay healthy.

From what I gather Spring Valley beat up on Ashland pretty bad. The score I saw was 52-0, but dont know how much of that was varsity.

I'm hoping SV is the 2nd coming of Trinity and FTH best teams blended into one.

It was ugly for the Cats today. Spring Valley varsity scored two touchdowns, with two extra points, and a 40+ yard field goal. Ashland varsity had no touchdowns and only 3 total first downs. SV JV scored at will agains our JV. The only touchdown we had came from the freshman... Greg compleation to Pittman for a long touchdown pass.

Ashland just couldn't do anything with SV line or pretty much anyone for that matter. Ratliff struggled to find receivers, however, Rogers made a couple good catches over the middle for short gains. Hester and Colburn had no running room what so ever. On the other hand, SV varsity did whatever they wanted to. Adkins threw the ball well, no downfield passes, but hit the open receiver when he had the chance. He also ran the ball well, something we didn't see with him last year.

Yes as in years past line play will make or break out Cats and the season as a whole. Doesn't sound to good but still time to fix things.
