Which Eastern Kentucky games are the most interesting to you this season?

Featured Replies

Is there a big rivalry game that you're interested to see the outcome of? Or a match-up between two teams from different classes? Maybe a game with a team from out of state? Or are there two teams who will just be battling it out for their district title that you'd like to see?

Off the top of my head I would say

Belfry vs Johnson Central

Hazard vs Paintsville

Corbin vs Mayfield and Beechwood

Good call on Hazard vs. Paintsville!

The Ashland-Harlan County game will be first ever meeting between them. Ashland-Johnson Central game always a big one too. Can the Tomcats get the monkey off their back.

My shortlist:

09/08/17 Belfry @ Newport Catholic

I'm expecting a third straight Belfry win in this game. Will the 3A Pirates stomp the 2A Breds again? Are they as strong as last season? Has New Cath stepped up at all? Always interesting to see teams from different regions play.

09/08/17 Corbin @ Beechwood

Two traditional powers butting heads after a long absence from one anothers' schedules. 2006 1A champion Beechwood versus 2006 3A semifinalist Corbin.

09/22/17 Corbin vs. Mayfield

OG versus OG. This is going to be an absolute grudge match for Corbin trying to get the Cardinals back for handing them a 1 point loss last year.

10/27/17 Belfry vs. Johnson Central

Battle in the mountains. This has to be the premiere football game in Eastern Kentucky this year, and is probably one of the premiere games in the state considering it's pitting two state champions against one another.

Lexington Catholic vs. DeSales in an EKY thread????

Ha....looks like I had that one copied and pasted in the wrong thread. Thanks for catching that. I'll edit it out and put it where it belongs.

Johnson Central vs. Capital (WV) in week 1 will give the defending 4A champions a stern test right out of the gate. Capital will likely be a top 5 team in the mountain state.

Paintsville vs. Raceland in week 9 is probably for the district title. Chances are, the winner here will host the loser in a regional championship rematch a few weeks later. This has blossomed into one of the best rivalries in EKY in recent years.

Newcath vs Belfry will be a good one.

Belfry certainly graduated a lot last year, but they've undoubtedly been able to reload year after year. They won 41-8 last year. How much do you think New Cath is able to close the gap this year?

Time will tell. I think it will be a very exciting game.

How many from the oline did they lose from last yr?

Huntington W. Va. at Belfry.

This was my main reason for taking in the Pike County bowl again this year.

How many from the oline did they lose from last yr?
They lost their starting LT, LG, C, RG, RT, TE and WR
