70 in attendance for Bearcat Football Camp last night. Nemo Wilson, who is going to Georgetown on a football scholarship, was our speaker.

A couple updates..... Coach Bob Kincer was a successful HFC @ Anderson Co. in the early 60's. He recently passed away and his family asked for donations to Bearcat Football in lieu of flowers. The response has been overwhelming... have had to get a bunch of thank you notes in the mail. In the offseason prior to 2023, Bearcat Football purchased 65 sets of pants and jerseys. Being optimistic, we purchased 8 more sets for the fall of 2024 for a total of 73. We have 65 lockers. This morning, we had 76 Bearcats playing football. And, we got a new couch from Newby's Furniture this morning. ? Shane Newby is an old Hog. I am an old Dog. We have buried the hatchet in Lawrenceburg. Lol We still have a long way to go, but very proud of the improvement we have made the last two years and excited for the future.

When he was younger, he came to a QB workout. Very good. When I got to Maysville, people told me his Dad, Deron, was a great HS football player. His granddad was the legendary Coach Allen Feldhaus of the Royals. Great guy and always enjoyed visiting him at Kenton Station Golf Course. While acknowledging I am a D3 Scout Team QB, I still think he could be an excellent TE in college. If he had continued playing QB... who knows what he would have done. But, I think he was gonna be really good.

I guess I remember it more like the Packer/LSU gold. But, I do remember some of the darker gold as well.

Steele has an insane story about playing HS football, losing to Highlands & Coach Flora locking them in the lockerroom and starting a bonfire. They never lost another game in HS. I told Steele one time, "My kids don't think your stories are true." Steele said, "Well, if they're not true, they should be." ?

He was the head coach at Centre when my Dad went to Boyle, 1969. He became a very good friend for my Dad and has been a wonderful family friend for the past 56 years.

Trosper and I had a great visit yesterday w/ Lynn & Steele Harmon. One of Steele's stories..... Steele was at Parris Island (Marine). His old HS coach from Bellevue, Ben Flora, called him and said he needed to come back and be the HFC at Bellevue HS. Steele told him he could not do that because he had already committed to go to Highlands and be an assistant for Homer Rice. Coach Flora told Steele, "I've got Judge Waddell with me here, we got it worked out." Judge got on the phone & told Steele, "We have it worked out, you are going to be the head coach at Bellevue."

Been hearing conversations on that “pond dirt” field for 56 years. ?

#64 was a prime number for OL/DL @ Mason County. You were the stud for the Rebels back in the day! ?

I got to coach Charles (2004) & Dukey (2005) on the All Star Team. Fine young men and good players. KY was loaded w/ RBs for the 2005 team. It was tough to narrow it down… but Dukey was the best one in the state.

Very cool picture... and believe that was a pretty good football team.

I did a poor job describing the jersey in the picture/original post. Those jerseys were like a fishing net. They were transparent. Later, evolved to the more common mesh seen from the late 70’s to the present day.

@Hatz said you wore them the first two games in 1979. Then, just wore in practice because it was too hard to see the numbers on film.

Checking the Bermuda grass on a hot , humid summer day. Looking good. Bob Ware Field will be ready to roll on Friday Nights this fall!

2012 in Flatwoods, down 28-10 going into the 4th. Won 32-28. Mason Co. vs. Russell. Any win over the Red Devils was monumental because of our respect for Coach Ivan McGlone, their staff & program. First class people and the way they did their business.

I don't think so. Funny you bring that up.... I told my guys right before we got off the bus..."Your body language says it is 80 degrees and sunny. There is no one more excited or happier to be here than we are. let's act like it." The kids were super and had great energy off the bus and the entire night. In 32 years, best ballgame we ever played. Tough that we lost it.
