Yes it does. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't watched it with my own eyes.

State Draw
2015 Kentucky High School Fast Pitch Softball Wow. So almost the entire top 20 in the state are crammed into 1 side of the bracket, and everyone else on the other side. Yikes. Should be interesting.

All A state tournament
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Glad you understood that so well. NO, the point is that if a tournament at a higher level than high school that determines who plays in a national championship tournament can be shortened due to rain and drops the losers bracket, then it isn't such a travesty when a mid-season HS tournament does the same. The point was made to illustrate that this isn't some miscarriage of justice, when people at higher levels of the game are making the same determinations for tournaments that have a lot more at stake. In terms of the players, YES, I do think it is a bigger deal that a number of ladies' softball playing careers ended prematurely due to this kind of decision versus a mid-season tournament being shortened. At least those girls have the rest of the season to play, regardless of the outcome of that tournament. And that applies equally to HS and college. The timing and importance of the tournament obviously matters. I hope that clears it up for you.

All A state tournament
These types of things happen all the time, at all levels. You want to know who got shafted by having a tournament drop its losers bracket last year? All of the college seniors playing on losers bracket teams in the OVC. That's right - a college tournament dropped the losers bracket and just played with the 4 remaining teams to decide who got to play in the national tournament.

Pitchers throwing 85mph
You mean that they can throw that fast? Depends on the accuracy of the radar and how a girl's pitching on a particular day, if it's just at a camp or practice, or in a game situation, etc. Certainly there are a number of girls who can and do hit 60.
-
Pitchers throwing 85mph
If you look at the teams that are populated with girls playing high level summer ball, especially the teams that have a lot of sophomores, juniors and seniors in their lineups, I'd say those teams can handle 60 because they are used to seeing it.

Pitchers throwing 85mph
And location. You get away with little movement if you've got speed and great location. Basically if you have some combination of 2 of 3, you'll be pretty successful.

Pitchers throwing 85mph
There are a number of pitchers who throw 60+ in KY. I've also seen quite a few pitchers who can barely touch 60 if at all playing D1 ball, if the radars they show on TV are accurate. Movement is far more important, even if you throw 65.

Favorites for All A state tournament
Not only rain, but now all of western Kentucky and a lot of the rest of the state are under a slight risk for severe weather. Not looking good.

Bullitt East 3 Mercy 2
Probably a little of both. BE is a good young team - sophomore SS and freshman P stand out to me - but just looking at Mercy's record, they don't seem to be as strong as we're used to seeing. Looks like offense has been the main issue lately. All that matters is how they're playing in mid-May though.

NKY Coaches Poll (Week 5)
Coaches do vote in college football. And most of them admit they don't see scores or know the details of the games of the teams they are voting for, and a lot of them pass that task off to SIDs. At least now their votes don't determine who plays for a title. It's hard to get too worked up about polls in HS sports when we settle it on the field. It would be nice to see the kids recognized for how they are playing on the field, but the easy answer to that is win and they won't be able to ignore you at the end, when it counts.

NKY Coaches Poll (Week 5)
If anyone gets to play this weekend. AGAIN.

College Bound Players who are they and where they going?
Signed seniors from Woodford County: Brooke Corum - Volunteer State Keely Moussette - Asbury Mandy Head - Union College Someone mentioned Caitlin Ferguson (junior) committed to Louisville. Woodford also has a couple of sophomores committed to schools as well and several more who should eventually play college ball.

This weather officially SUCKS!!!!
At this point it's not even so much the rain but threat of severe weather. A lot of tomorrow's games will likely be canceled whether or not it's raining. And worst part is aside from a nice day on Saturday, next week is looking stormy too.
-
Newport Central Catholic Spring Break schedule
Weather is killing the softball season this year. Woodford hasn't played a varsity game since March 23rd. Supposed to play tomorrow but that will likely get rained out or canceled because of potential severe weather. It will be nearly 3 weeks before they hit the field again.

Why Are The Pitchers Leaving
At the end of the day, regardless of whatever kind of season any team has, it can come down to 1 game. Anyone's game. I think Scott and Woodford the last couple years have played close games at region. I know last year even though it was a first round game that was the only close game Scott had to get to state. None of this really matters until May.

E Town This Weekend
Was not at the game but the story I heard from a couple of people was he argued a check swing third strike. After the third out, he came to get the bat and apparently said something to the ump as he bent over and got tossed. That's about all I know. Didn't see or hear any of it or why he felt the need to pull his team on what was probably a routine bad call, if that's the case. Unfortunate for the girls.

E Town This Weekend
Friday's game was Woodford's 1st as well, other than an intersquad scrimmage on Wednesday. Took them a few games to hit because they just hadn't seen live pitching and they saw plenty of the best right off the bat. Have to give props to Woodford and Christian county's pitchers who dominated in an 8 inning scoreless tie in pool - each starter went the distance too. Fun weekend.
-
E Town This Weekend
No they won it and I gave them props. Woodford simply did not have the extra pitching to hold the lead. The pitchers were pulled because they had nothing left. Not taking anything away from McCracken at all. Six games in one day to start the season is a bit much, regardless of depth. In a way I am glad the game ended in less than 7 innings for everyone's sake. But how it got out of hand was unfortunate.

E Town This Weekend
What I heard they were missing their #1 pitcher. I heard a rumored reason why but I won't say because I don't know the truth.
