Ok, maybe 60mph, but equivalent to baseballs 85mph fastball(roughly...is what I read). I do realize that movement is key, but I'm not aware of any D1 pitchers that pitch below that speed, not to say there's not any. With that, is there any pitcher in KY throwing that speed or close? Also, do you think someone could dominate with 60mph alone at the high school level? Or, maybe they would also need the movement and change up pitches as well? I was told that if there's a team out there with a pitcher that can hit 60mph that team should be on a roll. I want to know what BGP think.

There are a number of pitchers who throw 60+ in KY. I've also seen quite a few pitchers who can barely touch 60 if at all playing D1 ball, if the radars they show on TV are accurate. Movement is far more important, even if you throw 65.

Movement is everything, throwing hard is nice but turns into batting practice.

And location. You get away with little movement if you've got speed and great location. Basically if you have some combination of 2 of 3, you'll be pretty successful.

I get that movement is were it's at, but is there enough teams out there that could actually hit 60mph consistently to win a game? I would think that a lot of hitters timing would be off, unless you go to a cage or your high school has a pitching machine to practice hitting that speed. I've watched girls at the cage struggle with 55mph down the middle. I get that there are players that can hit it, but what about the whole team?

If you look at the teams that are populated with girls playing high level summer ball, especially the teams that have a lot of sophomores, juniors and seniors in their lineups, I'd say those teams can handle 60 because they are used to seeing it.

We have a pitching machine and almost all our hitters can hit it that fast with very few issues. When you change speed and location, that's when some struggle. But there are plenty of teams that can hit a 60-65mph fastball that's coming right down the middle consistently.

I'd bet a true 60+ would make most NKY lineups a 2 or 3 girl lineup, the rest would be K city. IMHO, MPH on pitchers pitches is grossly overstated. Could be wrong, but I doubt it. I mean, I once thought I was wrong, but I was wrong.

You mean that they can throw that fast? Depends on the accuracy of the radar and how a girl's pitching on a particular day, if it's just at a camp or practice, or in a game situation, etc. Certainly there are a number of girls who can and do hit 60.

I have no doubt that there is/are a girl(s) in NKY who can hit 60. I have doubts that there are a number of them. I am not talking about one pitch with a running start in a gym. I am talking about on the rubber with a batter at the plate in a game. JMO.

Best Pitchers have more than a fastball. A good change up is huge but a rise ball or sinker ball makes a good fastball a lot better.

Not since Kirsten Allen (Ryle 2008) as anyone thrown over 60 MPH in NKY, and she was doing it from 40 feet!!!!:scared:

I don't know how far into the 60s she got but her length plus 3 feet closer along with her strength made her unhittable. Plus she had a great change she uncorked every once in a while. I watched her for 4 years as my daughter played against her. Most dominant athlete in NKY that I saw.

I haven't seen a girl in northern KY throw 60mph at all. Maybe their throwing everything but a fastball. Most parents and some coaches of pitchers will tell you that their kid throws 3 plus pitches (fastball, change up, and name your pitch). I've heard, "look this kid throws 5 different pitches." Most games I've watched and of course warm ups, I generally see fastball and change up. Anyways, I would take a kid that could pitch(meaning hit spots) 60 plus mph consistently over movement any day(cause every pitcher supposedly has movement). I figure you can teach movement, but not speed. If someone can prove me wrong on speed, then get the slowest runner on your team to mimic the fastest and see how that goes.
