Athletic teams that attack and score vs. LC's 2-2-1 typically fare well, Lafayette can do this with Powell and King hitting corner 3's and Dreux/Newcombe attacking rim. LC is not all that quick; Lafayette is quick and can usually force pace to their liking. But LC is too deep, too strong inside and a great rebounding team - while Lafayette tends to have a few too many wasted possessions on offense every game - which is what will be their downfall vs. LC. hence the two losses to Bryan Station and the one to Lafayette, both teams can make you play faster than comfortable. But Scott Co, while very athletic, isn't particularly quick beyond Stewart and they won't make you play overly fast. Against the best teams, a lot of SC's transition comes from long rebounds more than pace or turnovers; and MC tends to get in the paint a lot (not just with Cozart) and misses are shorter. I think the pace can be kept down vs. Scott Co. Having said that, I think Scott County just has too many talented scoring options so will consistently be tough to beat in a close game. MC competes tough but SC goes on a run in the 4th: SC 69, MC 59.

Looks spot on, don't see a team there that doesn't belong, and I think the top 8 is exactly correct. Personally I would slide Pulaski down a few spots, though, and will learn more about them next week when they play that PRP / GRC doubleheader.

West is a solid team, 3 lightning quick guards cause mismatches, but they're not good enough to coast with a lead, particularly in a rivalry game. Gotta give East credit, they came out very intense in the 2nd half, attacked the basket and got within 1 point midway through the 4th. West hit 8-8 FT's in final two minutes or it may have been a different story.

Based on the numbers he's putting up, I agree. But he will be in tight race for POY in the 12th vs. Faulkner, and if they end up co-POY's that could hurt both's chances at Mr. Basketball by potentially splitting the 12th's votes. Same challenge in 9th - Kunkel vs. Frederick. Jay Scrubb could be in the mix also, I would think the winner comes from one of these five but maybe I'm missing someone. Region POY determination will eliminate two of them, can't win Mr. B without that.

LCA is not top 10, but that 34-46 isn't correct. A few of their opponent's current records: Lex Cath 10-3 Fairdale 8-5 Trinity 12-1 Mercer 11-4 Boyle 7-4 Scott Co. 11-1 Corbin 9-3 that's 68-21 for 7 of the teams they've played. The other 5 weren't strong, but with these 7 opponents (2-5 against) you can't call their schedule weak.

Right now I'd throw the top 4 in a fairly balanced group. I've seen all 4 play, and I think each has a decent chance to take the Region. I don't think one stands out yet, but will learn a lot tonight with Boyle-Pulaski and a lot about West in the next couple of weeks when they play LCA, Lex Cath, and Madison Central along with a repeat tilt vs. Mercer at home. I predicted earlier that West-Mercer will play each other 4 times this year, so will stay with that.

Very physical, yes, but I wouldn't say they played dirty. Their trash-talking, language, reactions to calls and some intimidation attempts - disappointing to see for a talented team that was otherwise fun to watch. They cleaned it up a bit after a couple of 1st half T's, though.

Cooper plays the best man defense I've seen over the last couple of years, and those principles make their zone coverage excellent also. Certainly worked well in tourney time last year. I was surprised they didn't give man a shot vs. Trinity, if nothing else but to break up the rhythm of the shooters and force them to move and cut. Trinity's ball movement and spacing against the zone was so impressive - most of their 3's were catch-and-shoot in-rhythm looks. p.s. Kunkel's ability to change speeds, with and without the ball, is very high level for a HS player. Plays with multiple gears, extremely hard to defend.

Completely agree with this. Top players are usually roughly equal overall but KY teams are consistently much stronger with the next level of players.

KOB gate proceeds will be the biggest winner, it will be SRO tonight for both semis. Cooper is the best defensive team I've seen, love watching them play. This will be a close one, but Johnson and Scrubb are athletic enough to make enough key plays despite the great defense, Trinity wins 59-55.

West moves to 6-1 with a victory in the Woodford County Invitational championship game.

completely agree with the lack of energy - I saw them play West Friday night and it was a different team than yesterday (although Faulkner good in both). They should handle Anderson Co. today, setting up a nice 12th R battle vs. Pulaski on Friday.

Woodford beat FD 67-58, they face West tonight at 8:00. Atherton beat Shelby

Thought this one would be close - Mercer just never comfortable vs zone or with slow pace.
