Good thing my phone is charged for the night. :lol2:

Great win for Fern Creek. Like I said in another thread, they are no doubt either 1 or 2 in the state at the moment. Hope they win it all. Really good group of kids.

Great job with the updates. If my memory serves, that is Oregon's #1 team.

I think it is clear the Top 4 in KY are really close -- and Ballard can thrust themselves into the mix tonight at 7:30.

Congrats to the Creek on the big win.

It's official... A Kentucky team wins KOB 2017!

West Linn had won the 6A State Championship 3 years in a row until last year when they came in 3rd so as far as Oregon goes they are a powerhouse. But I think Kentucky basketball has more depth, just a gut feeling. They really shot well from the 3 pt line at over 50% making 9. Fern Creek was 1/10 so there was a huge difference there. It was for sure a grind out game for the Tigers and they had 4 players scoring 14 (Wales), 15 (Price & Wickliffe), & 19 (Tony Rogers) to have a really balanced scoring attack. They responded to the pressure of being down by several baskets deep into the 4th quarter before they made a nice run to finish the game.

I was very impressed with Wales and Rodgers against a really good well coached West Linn team. Wales controls tempo and gets ball to scorers when they are open. Also does a wonderful job of creating opportunities for others. He had four to five plays where he got by his man and forced help and found his teammates. Might be the best PG at the KOB.

I don't think you can say there is no doubt. Trinity, Cooper, Covington Catholic, LCA (when healthy) all could make a case that they can be on the same level with Fern Creek. I also want say not saying Fern Creek is not, but those 4 teams that were in the KOB are legit. The great thing is we will settle it on the floor.

Completely agree with this. Top players are usually roughly equal overall but KY teams are consistently much stronger with the next level of players.

Fern Creek might be the most equipped team to make a title run this year. That group has been together long enough and they know each other well enough to work together at a high level. Those kids have put aside egos and self interests for over 4 years to get to this point....it's no secret. They are a team in every sense of the word....so good luck to anyone who plays them when they are close to playing their "A" game.

I think most everyone agrees that the Top 4 are F.C , Trinity, CovCath, and Scott County, and tonight Cooper gets to make the case for the Top 5.

I think anyone in the Top 4 can beat any of the others on any given night.

Absolutely agree with this. I didn't want it to seem that others couldn't win it, because I think there are a few that can. I think FC's overall depth and the way they play makes them a difficult team to beat in a tournament setting. They don't necessarily rely on the 3; so cold shooting won't cripple them; and they have enough unselfish depth that they can absorb foul trouble and/or injury probably better than most. But agreed Scott County, CCH, Cooper, Trinity are all worthy.

I agree. A lot of other high level teams in the state might have one or two components that make them a high level team, but Fern Creek checks all the boxes, scoring at all 3 levels, multiple scoring treats, inside presence, smart players, but what they have, that a lot of others don't is, tremendous team speed, an ability to pressure all over the court. Most other teams lack the latter two, I think. That plus, I think they have one of the best PG's in the state in Wales. I love to watch him control a game. It will all come out in the wash, and that's why I love this time of year.
