  1. Morgan County at West Carter on the 13th also looks to be a competitive game. West Carter High School is in Olive Hill, KY about 20 minutes east down I-64.
  2. Rowan plays Johnson Central at the Boyd County Roundball Classic on the 13th. BCHS is around an hour drive on I-64 east from Morehead, however. Should be a highly competitive game against two projected region winners.
  3. From what Towles showed in the latter portion of the SEC schedule, no he doesn't look like a pro QB and may lose his starting job to a redshirt freshman next season.
  4. Top Four in order, in my opinion: Bama Florida St Oregon Baylor TCU Ohio State However, I will say that I do not believe that FSU should have EVER been dropped from the number one spot. They are the only undefeated team in the Power 6 conferences and are the defending national champs, end of story. Yes, they may have had some close calls. But does being able to win in clutch situations not count for anything?
  5. Wow, didn't realize Tim Couch was a 3,000 point scorer for Leslie. Just think about how much higher some of those marks could be if some of those guys had the three point line while playing.
  6. VANCEBURG Lewis County junior center Jacob Kiebler was “thrown to the wolves,” as he said coach Joe Hampton put it, in Tuesday night’s season opener against Ashland. Hampton or Kiebler could have been referring to junior big man Jeremy McCann, too. Both ends of the inside duo survived that test. Each posted double-doubles in their most significant varsity action yet, helping the host Lions snap a 10-year, 11-game losing streak to the Tomcats, 65-52. “Honestly, we didn’t know how the two bigs were gonna work together,” Hampton said. “A big key for us, we felt like, is how quickly those two guys matured, because we said if they came in and make that adjustment from JV to varsity quickly and come in and make plays, I feel like our team has a chance to be pretty good, because we’ve got some quick guards.” McCann notched 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Kiebler collected 11 points and 11 boards off the bench. “I thought it was a really good experience for us,” McCann said. “This is our first year starting and everything.” Jordan Davis had 11 points and Trenton Walker scored 10 to join them in double figures. Ashland’s Christian Villers led all scorers with 18 points. Nick Miller notched 12 points and 10 boards for the Tomcats. Lewis County junior guard Jake Parker went down due to injury in the second quarter. That was what spurred the Lions to use McCann and Kiebler together. "We’ve got some size for the first time across the board like that,” Hampton said. “I think this is probably the biggest team we’ve had.” Kiebler, listed at 6-foot-8, is 3 inches taller than the tallest Tomcat, Dallas Knipp, who checks in at 6-5. McCann is 6-4. Combine that with the fact that three Ashland players who coach Buddy Biggs bemusedly used air quotes to describe as what passes for the Tomcats’ “big men” fouled out, and you see how Ashland had trouble handling Lewis County inside late. “Our bigs aren’t as big as their bigs, but three of our bigs fouled out, and that’s part of the maturation process,” Biggs said. “We’re a very, very young basketball team. They have to learn to play aggressively without fouling.” Lewis County (1-0) nearly matched its point total from the first three quarters in the fourth period alone. Ashland (0-1) led a plodding game, 36-34, after three quarters before the Lions racked up 31 in the fourth frame. Lewis County scored the first 10 points of the final stanza and led the rest of the way. McCann hit two charity tosses to tie the score at the 7:47 mark, and Davis splashed in back-to-back 3-pointers before Kiebler canned two more free throws. “You’ve got a team that’s kind of young that hasn’t had all this varsity experience,” Hampton said, “and that’s kind of the point where we got settled down a little bit and not be so tight, and loosened us up.” The Lions relied on defense as well. Villers had 10 points at intermission, but was 1-for-9 from the field in the second half, though he did hit 6 of 7 at the foul line during that time. “(Lewis County) went to the triangle-and-two the whole second half, and it stagnated our offense,” Biggs said. “My hat’s off to coach Hampton and his staff. We tried to adjust as best we could ... and we just didn’t do a good enough job executing.” Aside from Miller and Villers, Ashland’s roster is populated with unknown quantities at the varsity level. As such, Biggs expects to see a whole lot more of the same sort of defensive scheme. "Until other guys step up and prove they can score too, I’d say we’ll see this on a nightly basis,” the coach said. The win is Lewis County’s first against Ashland since Nov. 30, 2004, and only the second in program history. The teams opened the season against each other for the seventh straight year. Blue moon? 7. Ashland Blazer (0-1) -- Cha.Villers 3, Roberts 6, Chr.Villers 18, Bradley 2, Copley 4, Knipp 4, Miller 12, Lucas 3. LEWIS CO (1-0) -- Davis 11, Duncan 9, Walker 10, Parks 2, Lemaster 1, Parker 7, Kelly 3, McCann 11, Keibler 11.
  8. Yes, and according to one of the players on the team both he (Jacob Kiebler) and 6'4" Jeremy McCann had double doubles.
  9. Was anybody in attendance at this one that can give us a game summary? This really is a pleasant surprise with this being the first game since 2010-2011 that Brett Ruckel wasn't in the starting lineup. Losing Adams and Holder who were three year starters in the back court in their own right didn't help either. Accompany that with their best post player missing the season from a football injury. I'm tickled to see this score.
  10. GREAT win for my Lions to open the season!:thumb:
  11. Personally I think he left to further his coaching resume. Who wouldn't want to go from an OC to a HC job? Especially when the fan base at the school you're the OC for isn't happy with what you've done while there?
  12. I agree. Saturday's games all have the potential to be blowouts.
  13. Finals week is next week so I guess I will be studying this weekend instead of watching football.
  14. I wish Long nothing but luck at Hamilton Township.
  15. He said "It's a new beginning at Hamilton." So I'm assuming he will enroll at Hamilton High in Columbus.
  16. I agree but in my mind program and team mean two different things. If you have a good program your team is consistent, number one. Consistently very competitive with the other top programs in your class or division or conference, whatever the example pertains. A good program also has an aura about them, the intimidation factor, if you will. While Johnson Central does both of these things, Belfry just does them better. In my opinion Belfry has both the better program and the more successful program. JC just has the better team most years.
  17. Fixing a game? Really? He said they were blowouts. I don't think his call to prevent it from being an even bigger blowout hardly counts as "fixing a game."
  18. Rowan is definitely not a top 5 team in the state but every preseason ranking I've seen has them #1 in the 16th.
  19. We're talking schools and teams who go through different waves of talent, not individuals. This is not a valid comparison, imo.
  20. Is Johnson Central's ultimate goal when the season starts to beat Belfry or to win a state championship?
  21. I don't know why this is even a thread if the question is who has the better PROGRAM
  22. Montana St. broke Morehead State's record for fewest points scored in a game in Rupp Arena in this one. The Eagles scored only 32 points when they played Pitino's Cats in the 95-96 season.
