  1. Losing AJ and Butler and Pike and Lenihan and Dyer among others makes for a lesser offense this year. IMO Losing Pike Schneider Dyer Butler Lenihan on defense lessens that side as well. Guys have stepped up no doubt and they are good just agree trend is slightly down, but from a very high level. The combined personnel last year was amazing. Still looking better than anyone in 5A. The lower classes have done very well, so unknown if they can keep the train going. Not sure anyone looked at the class of 2018 their freshman year and saw domination by senior year. (With underclass help). They don’t need a running clock this year to win the title, just one more point than SW. Last year seemed to create way too much emphasis on running clocks. Great streak but get the W.
  2. Spurrier had some great throws on covered receivers last year when they met.
  3. During all those Highlands runs I don’t remember many big lines. Just quick and athletic. And a system.
  4. The loss of Pike at safety and Schneider at corner to graduation is a big loss for CCH...
  5. Maybe it’s good for the colonels to experience a little adversity and grit before they get to Kroger Field and play what we all think will be a gritty tough game.
  6. Outside of the obvious D1 players, I don’t think the talent gap is massive. The average is higher yes. Add in the top players and the system and it’s smokin. Not sure the gap was as big as many are thinking for either side these last decades. During Highlands 17 streak the Colonels had some years with major injuries. And Highlands had a few D1 players. Cov Cath came close to making a game of it in the regional and then Hoge went off. Without him, very close. Just enjoy the rivalry (and winning a few again)
  7. Football meant to be played In the mud. Unless there are other issues like holes then it’s probably safer than turf. However, olddoc has a point that it can impact the game if the lines aren’t visible. Can they restripe at half?
  8. The first half wasn’t as close as you said. The missed FG came after a long drive. The INT also in the red zone at the end of the first half. Easily could have been 17-0 at half.
  9. Birds definitely better than last two years but tonight showed the Colonels still a step up. Surprised they got the running clock with two turnovers, missed field goal and some big penalties.
  10. CCH has a turnover and some bad penalties in the first game so saying Highlands have it away is a little over the top.
  11. “CCH will have to defend some sets they haven’t seen on film. I’ll leave it at that.” Absolutely goes both ways. I agree with the above post regarding CCH benefiting more from the prior game. The young quarterback weathered a storm in injun territory and now has the confidence and home field.
  12. “Most of those yards were gained on short fields and those point totals were stunted by running clocks.” You can’t gain most yards on short fields because there aren’t many yards on a short field. CCH had two long drives in the fourth quarter ended on a fumble and downs. Casey had a thirty to forty yard run on a different drive. It bodes well as the QB got deeper in the game the drives were longer..
  13. Between timeouts, breaks, penalties, half, and taking some plays off, these young kids hold up pretty damn well.
  14. By my count, CovCath had only 3 three and outs, one of which was after the pick on the one. In the fourth quarter they had two sustained drives. One they fumbled deep in Highlands end and one they turned over on downs near Highlands 30. So not like the Colonels didn’t move the ball.
  15. No good. The farmers Almanac beat you to it on the weather. As for Birds, it’s for the Birds.
