Do you know why Hazard played Perry instead of Buckhorn in first game of district tournament?

I agree, a 13 team region is small. Region 1 lost four teams over the last couple of years. Two of them to consolidation (3 into 1) and two Christian schools. Community Christian Academy located in McCracken County no longer offers a team. Christian Fellowship School located in Marshall County has a team but doesn't participate in KHSAA.

-High school baseball can be tough to predict but here goes my humble outlook and predictions- *note: KHSAA has the incorrect outcome for St. Mary @ Murray, the records are corrected here* District 1 Tournament @ Fulton City - This is the only four team district in the region and probably the most wide open. All four are small schools which keeps the competition close between them. (1) Carlisle County Comets (14-13) (5-1) (4) Fulton City Bulldogs (5-10) (2-4) season results: @ Carlisle County 16 Fulton City 12 Carlisle County 11 @ Fulton City 10 The Comets come in as the defending District 1 champs and will be favored in this game. Fulton City dropped to the 4 seed after a loss in their last district game. The Bulldogs competed in both season contests and will have home field advantage. The Comets will look to cut down on runs allowed helping them to win this one. (2) Hickman County Falcons (10-11) (3-3) (3) Fulton County Pilots (5-11) (2-4) season results: @ Hickman County 5 Fulton County 4 Fulton County 6 @ Hickman County 5 These two split a couple of 1-run games in a doubleheader at Hickman County. Both have rosters comprising of young players with nearly half being freshmen and under. The Falcons may be a slight favorite but will have to face the Pilots on a neutral field this time around. With all the youngsters in this game it could go either way. The Pilots haven't advanced since 2009 and I expect the drought to continue. In the championship: Carlisle County has more depth and experience which should give them enough advantage to repeat as champs in another close game. The Comets beat Hickman County 8-7 in last year's title game. season results: @ Hickman County 3 Carlisle County 2 @ Carlisle County 6 Hickman County 3 District 1 Champion - Carlisle County District 1 Runner up - Hickman County District 2 Tournament @ St. Mary (Paducah) - The tournament was set once McCracken County won their third game to receive the bye. In a rare situation, the tournament will be played at St. Mary again this year. Paducah Tilghman was host last season but had a conflict with their home field and opted for the St. Mary facility. (1) McCracken County Mustangs (29-2) (4-0) *BYE (2) Paducah Tilghman Tornado (13-15) (1-3) (3) St. Mary Vikings (7-10) (1-3) season results: @ St. Mary 4 Paducah Tilghman 2 @ Paducah Tilghman 2 St. Mary 1 This game between in town rivals will be interesting and should be a good one. After winning the first matchup, St. Mary chose to hold their ace pitcher out of the last contest since there was nothing to gain in regards to the tournament. The Vikings will be hosting and should have the advantage on the mound with one of the region's best pitchers in Austin Shaw. The Tornado have a young squad but may have more upside when things are going good. They start a couple of talented freshmen and eighth graders but inconsistency has been a problem this season. St. Mary has struggled to produce runs this season but if Shaw is on I expect them to scratch enough to get the win. Paducah Tilghman hasn't won the district this millennium. St. Mary won a couple of titles in District 3 before being moved last season. The consolidation of McCracken County (Lone Oak, Heath, and Reidland) resulted in the realignment of Region 1 districts. In the championship: McCracken County will be a heavy favorite but only dominated in one of their four district contests when they no-hit Paducah Tilghman in a run rule affair. Pitching will be second tier for the challenger, due to the three team format, so expect the Mustangs to get plenty of run support for their strong pitching staff. The Mustangs beat the Vikings 4-1 in last year's title game, and should win this one by a comfortable margin. season results: @ McCracken County 5 St. Mary 0 McCracken County 4 @ St. Mary 2 District 2 Champion - McCracken County District 2 Runner up - St. Mary District 3 Tournament @ Mayfield - Ballard Memorial earned the bye with a tie break over Graves County. Most expect to see them face off for the title in a rubber match. (1) Ballard Memorial Bombers (26-6) (3-1) *BYE (2) Graves County Eagles (19-14) (3-1) (3) Mayfield Cardinals (7-17) (0-4) season results: @ Graves County 7 Mayfield 2 Graves County 1 @ Mayfield 0 The baseball version of "Battle of the Birds" favors the Eagles. Graves County pitchers Eamon Hannan or Tanner Smith are good enough to keep the cross town Cardinal hitters in check. In fact, Smith threw a no-hitter earlier this season in a 1-0 win. Mayfield will need a strong pitching performance and a defensive gem to have a chance for the upset. I'm thinking Graves County wins this by at least four runs. These two schools love to beat each other no matter the sport. In the championship: This could be the game of the week and may hinge on how Graves County decides to use their pitchers. When these two met in a double header at Graves County, Hannan tossed a shutout while Smith took the loss to the Bombers in the second game. Ballard Memorial, losers of 3 of their last 4, looks to regain some of the magic that took them to the All A Classic finals and a brief stint in the top 25. They are still receiving votes in the latest poll and could still be considered the favorite on paper. The Bombers are loaded with upper classmen. The Eagles, however, played a tougher schedule and seem to be playing better in the last half of the season. If Hannan is available, I think he will be too much again for the Bomber hitters. If it's Smith, I think the Eagles find a way to pull the slight upset in a tight game. In last year's title game Graves County beat Ballard Memorial 10-0 in five innings. This one isn't expected to be anything near that. season results: @ Graves County 6 Ballard Memorial 0 Ballard Memorial 6 @ Graves County 2 District 3 Champion - Graves County District 3 Runner up - Ballard Memorial District 4 Tournament @ Marshall County - This was the only district that didn't need any tie breakers to determine the seeds but could end up quite different than the records show. Marshall is still the favorite but their one loss was at home to Calloway County. (1) Marshall County Marshals (23-9) (3-1) *BYE (2) Murray Tigers (12-10) (2-2) (3) Calloway County Lakers (8-19) (1-3) season results: Murray 4 @ Calloway County 3 @ Murray 5 Calloway County 4 These two couldn't have played closer games in the season. In the first matchup, Murray out hit Calloway County 10 to 5 but four Tiger errors kept the game tight. Two nights later, the teams stayed tied at 1-1 through eight innings. The Lakers scored 3 in the top of the ninth, to take control of the game, only to see Murray come back with 4 of their own for the dramatic win. Calloway County played a much tougher schedule seeing teams like McCracken County, Christian County, Daviess County twice, Apollo twice, and Hopkinsville twice. If the Tigers and Lakers swapped schedules their records would probably be identically swapped. This rivalry has been nearly even going back a decade and Murray will be looking for their first three game sweep since 2003. Another one run game with extra innings is not out of the question but this time I feel Calloway County gets the breaks they need to pull it out. Some will consider it a mild upset if so. In the championship: It's been over a month since they played back to back days winning at each other's home park. If Calloway County makes it to this game they may need to jump out early on the host to build confidence. That was the key in their season win. If they don't, expect the Marshals to slowly build a lead that will be too tough for the Lakers to overcome. Marshall County has eight seniors and seven juniors on the roster. They appear to be healthy and were playing solid as the season came to an end. They are receiving votes in the recent top 25 poll. I think Marshall County will get it done with their bats, possibly adding a long ball, to defend their title. The Marshals won last year's title 4-2 over Calloway County. season results: Marshall County 4 @ Calloway County 1 Calloway County 6 @ Marshall County 3 District 4 Champion - Marshall County District 4 Runner up - Calloway County

Yep, that's an outstanding win. I see they beat a solid Tates Creek team on that trip to Lexington as well.

I absolutely despise trash talking in any sport, but are there documented restrictions or regulations on such? I really don't know, nor had a reason or interest to look it up. That being said, didn't we all learn "swing batter batter" and "he can't hit it" chants as baseball players from day one. I can imagine if such talk was going on it wasn't kiddie league stuff but the point is the same. One has to refrain from acting on words.

They also go across the river May 11 to play a really good Massac County, IL squad. Some Massac games of relevance: @ Murray W 13-1, @ Christian L 1-4. Went 2-2 @ Owensboro tournament: Owensboro Cath W 6-2, Scott Co. L 3-5, Male L 0-5, Lou. Holy Cross, W 8-0. Beat previously undefeated #1 (2A) Carterville 5-3 @ Carbondale on Wednesday.

Congrats to Mr. Elliott, something he'll never forget. Did it against a top 25 team as well!!

Almost forgot..........kudos to the Boyd County group on this gesture as well. Looks like all these young men have a great jump on true values in life.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I got to know some of the Ashland faithful at the softball state tourn last year. They were a great group of people with a lot of class. I know Ms. Hensley's grandfather was one of them. What a character, that guy is like someone who walked straight out of the movies. True southern gentleman / Ky colonel type, laid back and full of fun and spirit. I hope someone on here passes a friendly "hello" to him from western KY.

Kalli Harris, sophmore 1B/INF, McCracken Co. Ms. Harris has continued to have a great season building off last year's strong state tournament perfromance. She brings a competitive attitude in a calm and relaxed package. An outstanding hitter with good size and power, she also understands what the coaches ask of her in each at bat. She is a wonderful young lady off the field as well.

Thanks old one, good to see they are staying focused. 7-0 regional record, outscored opponents 106-3 in 28 innings (all games were run rule). They have one more remaining against Marshall County at home.

Nice recap, sounds like Ohio County has a solid ball team.

April 28 The Falcons fell on the road to Carlisle County to split the season. Austin Boaz, a junior, took the loss in a complete game effort. He also added two hits at the plate including a double and RBI. Seventh grader Parker Estes went 2 for 4. Steven Allen added a double for the Falcons. April 30 The Falcons lost back to back district games falling to Fulton City at home. Estes, Alec Spillman, and Allen each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Allen pitched a complete game while taking the loss. Fulton City Bulldogs (3-7) (1-2) – The Bulldogs went 1-1 on the week splitting a pair against District 1 foe Hickman County. Howard also picked up the save pitching the 7th. Chan Malray threw 6 innings and picked up the win. Fulton County Pilots (3-8) (1-3) – The Pilots lost two road games to go 0-2 for the week. Four very nice wins against quality opponents all on the road / neutral, which included two ranked teams and one receiving votes. Sophomore Caleb Reinhardt got his second start and continued to look good in the win, as the Mustang bats came alive with 17 hits. Trent Shelby and Ryan Garner each had 3 hits while Ian Walters added 2 with 3 RBI. Breese, Seitzinger, and Pope also had 2 hits. Chad Williams pitched two scoreless innings in relief. May 1 On Friday, Josh Scheer pitched a complete game shutout allowing 3 hits with 13 K’s in a tough match up against #23 Hopkinsville junior Easton McGee. McGee is considered a top prospect for 2016. Cole Womack had 3 hits for the Mustangs while Walters and Jeffrey Mathis each had 2 hits and RBI. In the night cap against #22 Louisville Trinity, Ryan Garner also pitched a complete game shutout allowing 3 hits with 12 K’s. May 2 After a late drive home and an early morning return to Hopkinsville, the Mustangs beat Christian County in a close game. April 27 Webster County home W 2-1 April 28 Graves County away L 4-5 April 30 St. Mary home W 2-1 May 1 Goreville, IL home L 6-12 April 27 Against Webster County, Isaac Humphrey got his first win by tossing a complete game 3-hitter. Nathan Hawkins and eighth grader Eric Riffe each had two hits. April 28 The Tornado lost a heartbreaker at Graves County in walk off fashion. After falling behind early 4-1, eighth grader Colbe Crim drove in a run in the 3rd on a sacrifice. Crim was at it again in the 5th driving in Elijah Pleasants for the second time to tie the score at 4-4. Pleasants added 2 hits, but took the loss in relief after giving up a triple and a walk off single. April 30 This District 2 game against St. Mary didn’t mean anything in the standings. These two will fill the #2 and #3 seeds in a three team district with St. Mary already being set as the tournament host. Crim pitched a complete game allowing only three singles. Catcher Aaron Armstrong went 3 for 3 which included an RBI double. May 1 Goreville, IL improved to 14-9. Reese Butler took the loss. St. Mary Vikings (4-8) (1-2)– The Vikings went 0-2 on the road including one against District 2 in town rival Paducah Tilghman. April 29 Cairo, IL made the short drive across the Ohio River but couldn’t challenge the Bombers. Cairo has been unable to field a quality team in years. May 2 On Saturday morning in the All A Classic quarterfinals in Lexington, Carroll County and BMHS needed extra innings to decide the outcome. Pitchers Lee Chandler (BM) and Zakk Hicks (CC) battled for five scoreless innings until the Bombers managed to score in the top of the 6th on pinch hit single by Matthew Gilbert. Chandler, who had 6 K’s over 5 innings, gave way to Addison Wildharbor who gave up the tying run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th with two outs. The Bombers exploded for 7 runs in the 8th sending 11 batters to the plate. Evan Lawrence had a 2 RBI single and Bradley Roberts also had a single for an RBI in the inning. Aided by an error, Carroll County rallied to score 3 before the Bombers closed them out. May 3 Sunday morning in Lexington BMHS beat Hazard in the All A Classic semifinals. The Bombers Addison Wildharber, Lee Chandler and Bradley Roberts were all named to the All-Tournament team. Graves County Eagles (15-11) (3-1) – The Eagles went 3-0 for the week all in regional play. Two of these were District 3 games against cross town foe Mayfield. April 28 Paducah Tilghman home W 5-4 April 30 Mayfield home W 7-2 May 1 Mayfield away W 1-0 April 28 It took a walk off single to center by Austin Jones to beat Paducah Tilghman. In the 2nd with the scored tied 1-1 Tyler Harlow blasted a 3-run HR. The Eagles would need Harlow again after Tilghman eventually tied the game 4-4. In the 7th Harlow delivered a triple to deep left forcing Tilghman to intentional load the bases. Jones then provided the walk-off knocking in Harlow. Tanner Smith got the win in relief. April 30 Mayfield got six hits, but Graves’ Eamon Hannan didn’t give up a walk to keep the scoring at a minimum. He also had 10 K’s in a complete game. Jones stayed hot going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI. Hannan and Christian Gough each added two hits. May 1 Tanner Smith threw a no-hitter against Mayfield as the Eagles finish district play with a 3-1 record. Smith gave up 3 walks while fanning 7 and also scored the game’s only run on a Ryan Travis sac fly. Mayfield Cardinals (5-14) (0-3) – The Cardinals dropped three District 3 games going 0-3 during the week. April 27 Ballard Memorial home L 2-17 (5 innings) April 30 Graves County away L 2-7 May 1 Graves County home L 0-1 April 27 Mayfield only mustered two hits in a bad loss to Ballard Memorial. Lane Kennemore had both hits and a RBI. May 1 Austin Couch threw a great game for the Cardinals, but couldn’t match the Graves County no-hitter. He only allowed 3 hits and one run in his complete game effort. District 4 Marshall County Marshals (16-8) (3-1) – The Marshals had a tough week going 1-3 which included two top notch opponents in #1 McCracken and Apollo who is receiving votes. April 27 St. Mary home W 10-0 (6 innings) April 28 #1 McCracken County home L 3-10 April 30 Ohio County away L 6-7 (11 innings) May 2 Apollo home L 3-13 (5 innings) April 27 In a Region 1 matchup against St. Mary the Marshals were too much for the Vikings in a shortened game. JC Goins and Weston Duke combined for a 3 hit shutout. The offensive took advantage of 5 errors and produced 8 hits. Blake Johnson and Mason Wooten each had two hits while driving in 3 RBI and 2 RBI respectively. April 28 The Marshals couldn’t manage a hit until the 5th inning against #1 McCracken County. After a couple of errors, Lucas Forsythe had a 2 RBI single. Chase Bright added an RBI double but the Marshals would only get one more hit in the contest. Wednesday April 29th, Marshall County’s Mason Wooten and Blake Johnson sign with Shawnee Community College in southern Illinois (Ullin, IL). April 30 Ohio County scored in each of the first four innings to build a 6-0 lead. The Marshals pushed the game to extra innings by scoring 6 in the top of the 7th. Hunter Jaco had a RBI double, Dalton Riley an RBI single, Johnson had a two out bases loaded walk, and Wooten had a single for 2 RBI in the inning. Wooten was great in relief, but allowed a leadoff walk in the 11th who then stole second. A deep ground ball to short was thrown low to first getting away which allowed the winning run to come home. The Marshal hitters had 22 K’s and only 4 hits. May 2 Owensboro Apollo banged out 18 hits building a 13-1 lead. The Marshals’ attempt to avoid the mercy rule came up short after scoring twice in the bottom of the 5th. Wooten and Bright each had a hit and RBI. The Marshals only managed 4 hits for the game. Murray Tigers (9-8) (1-2) – The Tigers only played two games this week going 2-0 with one being a District 4 game against county rival Calloway County. April 28 Calloway County away W 4-3 May 2 Fulton County home W 23-1 (5 innings) April 28 Murray out hit Calloway County 10 to 5 but had 4 errors to keep the game tight. Chase Nelson threw 6 innings with 6 K’s in picking up the win. BJ Elder, John Winchester, and Logan Allen each had 2 hits. Zack Grogan pitched the 7th for a save. May 2 Will Shelton pitched 3 shutout innings of a run rule game against Fulton County in a regional game. Shelton allowed 2 hits, 0 BB, and had 7 K’s while also helping his cause going 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. The offense pounded out 18 hits in four home innings. Winchester and Elder each had 3 hits with 4 RBI and 2 RBI respectively. Juniors Tanner Foster and Cam Kelly each had 3 RBI. VOR, being that the LCA / Hancock County game was closer than I expected, maybe LCA held back. Or more likely, the rotation worked out this way. I see where they had a very tough district game against Lafayette prior to the Hancock game. I'm pretty sure Ballard Memorial used their 1 & 2 and will start getting thin because Wildharbor had some innings in both those games.
