Congratulations to the Blue Colonels Class of 2018! Football state champs and Basketball state champs. That's an amazing feat. My hat is off to you.

BTW, I am not asking those questions at this point. I started the thread to direct people to Ram's great thread. I didn't express myself well in the first post. I am well on my way to answering those questions for myself, but I started out not knowing where to begin. I posted these questions and a link to a thread that does a good job of answering how and where to begin so that if there are others who, like me, haven't got a clue, they could get solid advice of where to begin and a process to follow. As I said, it is a PSA.

BTW, I consider the thread by @Ram to be a great thread. It should be in the BGP Hall-of-Fame. The information is spot on and highly useful. It took a lot of work to put that together.

How do you get your son noticed by college football programs so he'll get recruited? What, as a parent, can I do to facilitate my son's goal of playing college football? How do I make contact with coaches? And what should my son do to set himself up to be recruited and to interact with college coaches? I am living this right now and sorry to say, started thinking about it way too late. But, I am making up for lost time. I did get very good help from BGPers when I posted some questions last spring. Fortunately, there is an excellent thread on this topic in the college sports forum under the College Recruiting Forum by Ram called Getting a College Football Scholarship. He does a series of 4 posts with invaluable information of how to go about getting recruited starting when your son is a freshman. For some reason, I didn't see this thread until now. Burnsie at Boone is loved by everybody. I'm not sure how long Tom Burns has been on the job but he is at everything. Neither do I know if he is full-time, but I suspect he is.

Parks is quite an athlete at OLB.

Because some of us have very short memories and we can argue this stuff like we never heard the other side's points before and like we've never stated our counterpoints. Have you ever heard an older fella tell the same stories over and over again and not realize he has? It's the same principle. Look at the bright side, we'll never run out of stuff to argue about on BGP. And I think your kids probably end up at Cov Cath and play with teammates that likewise didn't receive participation trophies when they were young but now compete against teams with kids who did. This may explain Cov Cath's dominance in two major sports this year. :bag: :heh:

Why would Highlands move up to 5A? To compete with Cov Cath for the same district title. That is huge. People on BGP have different opinions about what is important for a high school football program but competing against your arch rival in the same district for the title of that district is huge. It would not be the same in my hometown in, if my school's arch rival was moved to a different district. Even in a down year, the last game of the season is against the arch rival and if the team that is having a down year can rise up and spoil the season for the one that is on top, that is a huge achievement. Those games are huge fan-supported events no matter how disparate the talent on the two teams is. The better team CANNOT take the other for granted because ANYTHING can happen in that game... and it has. This is what rivalries are all about. It is what high school football should be--IMO. Cov Cath v. a rejuvenated Highlands is a huge draw for high school sports and is made larger by competing for the same prize. BTW, it is more fun to read this post if you pronounce "huge" with a silent "h". Again, just my opinion.

It is sad to see that the season is over for Boone. The seniors on this team are incredibly close, and their families. I'm not sure they will have the opportunity to develop this type of camaraderie again.

Backs who refuse to go down sometimes fumble when they are fighting for yardage. He will learn when the ball is at greater risk and it is better to go down.
