  1. Proud of St. Henry tonight. They went in as clear underdogs, but never gave up, and emerged the Champs. I was standing directly opposite the St. Henry goalie and did not see the gesture you speak of. That's not saying he did not do it, and he was probably reacting to some of the foul language directed at him at times. Not from the happy chanting, but in an undertone that most people wouldn't hear unless they were close enough. However, let's not stoop to name calling and calling out the kids. It was a great game, for both the spectators and players. Good luck to St. Henry as they go forward, and congrats to Cov Cath on a great season.
  2. Drunk Johnny - great handle, especially for a high school forum.
  3. Ballow is a very nice player. It's time to take him off this thread and move on. It's high school soccer, some players score high, some don't. Some schools have 4 or 5 mercy games, others have a far tighter schedule. Some players get the ball touched to them a lot so can score easily, others have to do all the work, but strong defenders knock them back. People really have to keep it real on here...
  4. This whole thread went over the top days ago!
  5. I'm giving up on this thread, it's getting too whiney and repetitive. Good luck to all the teams playing tonight!
  6. I believe that's pretty much what Oldtime and I have been saying all along...
  7. I hope it doesn't go to PK's. It's the worst way to determine a winner. The goalie could get lucky and dive in the right direction, the taker could be so nervous (while acting cool!) he shanks it up over the crossbar... And all that will be remembered of the match will be the kid who "knocked us out of State..".
  8. Fanofsports, you're entitled to disagree, that's your prerogative. I absolutely adhere to the rules of this forum, including adhering to the morals and respect aspect. I would have no problem whatsoever being upfront with the players and/or spectators. If I see a player going in on another player with a dirty undercut, or jab in the kidney, or late dangerous tackle, then that player or parent deserves to bear the brunt of the "critics". You have got to remind yourself, this forum is mainly comprised of opinions, of what people see from wherever they are on the field or in the stands. Nothing is written in stone. If the kids who read this can identify themselves from the negative comments posted, perhaps they will dial back the dirty play a little. I do NOT agree with posting player names or numbers. I never have, and won't.
  9. Scott already beat GRC 3-1 in regular season. I think it'll be a tougher game, but Scott will win by one goal.
  10. Otb84, thanks for condensing that cbcs post a little. I wouldn't have the time or patience to read something that lengthy on here.
  11. It was a cool moment, and a light-hearted distraction. The oohs and aahs from all the players and the entire fan section was a moment of real, normal friendly, unity. Good job Buck!!
  12. EyeJustWatch, my advice to you is if you're going to be offended or upset about what you read on soccer fora perhaps you should not read them. People on this blog aren't "taking the bait", they are expressing their own opinion of what they see on the field. I have been around high school soccer, and top level club soccer for many years, there is a difference between good hard physical play, and underhand dirty play. In the last few games I've seen Holy Cross play they don't seem to know the difference. I could easily call out one HC player in particular who is the main culprit but I'm mature enough not to do that. I don't consider Futbolfan to be calling people out on false statements, he is just stating what he saw, as opposed to what other people see. That's his opinion, just as you have yours and I have mine.
  13. Looking forward to Cov Cath v NCC on Thursday. I think it's shaping up the be the match of the season.
  14. Well said, yellow card, a classy note to finish off Cooper's season.
  15. Wow, that score has got to be the shock of the night, or even the season!
  16. I'm getting a lot of "sore loser" vibes. Ah well, better luck next year
  17. As soon as St. Henry scored the first goal Holy Cross started their usual dirty play. Elbows in ribs, sneaky punches, etc etc... Using any means possible to stop St. Henry scoring again. At times it looked like the entire HC team was the defensive back line.
  18. Congrats to all the players who deserved it. From what I've seen this year, some of the names on the list are a big surprise. For a minute I thought I was looking at the "most carded players" list!
  19. St. Henry was the better team, they were just unlucky tonight. Tough way to leave the competition.
  20. That's because 3rd division teams in England just don't really matter. The weaker teams in England/Europe don't have the massive budget that the 1st division teams have. Hence the field conditions are not great. But I can pretty much guarantee that the school boy league fields are a whole lot better than even the good ones here.
  21. St. Henry will win 1-0 in regular time. Looks it'll be a good game. Very evenly matched.
  22. The Cov Cath boys are well versed in how to play physical soccer. I'm sure they'll take your finesse remark as a compliment.
