How does a player finish fourth in the Defensive Player of the Year Award and not place in the top four goalies in the area? I am sure that the majority of the players on this list earned and truly deserve the honor given to them, but this list has some very questionable choices. Congrats to those who received the honor and good luck in the future. To those who got cheated...well get used to it...it happens in life.

Congrats to all the players who deserved it. From what I've seen this year, some of the names on the list are a big surprise. For a minute I thought I was looking at the "most carded players" list!

I think to get DPOY award you have to be nominated by your coach. So if for DPOY award NCC nominated Hensley (not Grosser); Highlands nominated Barbro (not GK Breslin), etc... then you could come in fourth place in DPOY award and yet when goalies were nominated and voted on still not be in the top 4 goalies.

If you've seen any if the coaches polls you know the whole "coach pick-em" process is far from analytical, but I don't think it's patently unfair or that anyone got "cheated."

I don't think that I was inferring in any way that those not mentioned were not good players and decent human beings. I realize that the process is less than ideal for recognizing the hard work of these young men over the past several months. I am not sure how you would refer to a process where a person worked for and deserved something, but didn't receive it other than "cheated". If people agree that it is not an ideal system, why is it never changed? Is it just laziness or just easier to do nothing? There must be a better way of doing this that someone smarter than me can come up with.

 

Again, I congratulate the players who received the honor and wish them the best of luck going forward.

Agree, congrats to all the boys for playing a strong well fought year (no hidden meaning in "fought"... not trying to get a few started on cards...). Don't know how many were "cheated" but as mentioned, the coaching input into many coaches nominations and polls can be lacking if not even political within a school at times. So sad to see it really. As mentioned, a lot of great didn't get mentioned, hope it is not simply due to pressure within a program or school. I'll just leave it at that..

 

As also mentioned, when the dust settles, we (NKY.. 9th region etc..) need to root for someone to lend legitimacy to NKY soccer with a big win.

The Ed Lett award is voted on by the coaches. The boys and girls apply for the Scott Christian scholarship and is reviewed/voted on by the members of that organization.
