Wow. Will be interested to hear the summary of this one. Never expected that.

I didn't expect this either. It is a complete surprise to me. Sorry for Cooper, Yellow Card. Your team will be back strong next year given the number of underclassmen that started for you.

As for a summary - first of all what a game plan by Coach McDonald. . . . . NCC utilized every inch of the big field at Ryle High School and made Cooper chase from side line to side line. This spread the usually efficient Cooper defense out and left several open lanes for the long crosses and allowed NCC to have open shots on goal all night long which they converted at a high rate. NCC was very patient and controlled the ball about 65% to 35% of the game while making Cooper chase them wide. For a true soccer fan, this one was fun to watch.

As for the NCC defense, they never let the Cooper attackers go unmarked and applied pressure to the ball at all times. The defense was very effective as Grosser didn't have to make a save and there were no serious shots on goal.

It's the regional and for some reason NCC decides it's time to put full games together and make a run as they've been to the regional final the past 3 years with coach McDonald.

Congrats to NCC. Sounds like the usual coach McDonald.

Preach!

Credit to NCC, they definitely came to play, did not look at all like the team Cooper played earlier in the season.

Cooper gave up an early goal when Williams had one slip between his legs, shortly after that they gave up another goal off a cross into the box when a NCC player got inside position on the weak side FB. Cooper seemed a little shocked at this point but was able to regroup and play some better defense, they were also able to get some good chances on goal before half but could not convert.

Louis hit a rocket from about 25 yards out early in the second half, this put NCC up 3-0 and the match was essentially over at this point.

Tonight was a disappointing end to an otherwise great season for Cooper, they will surely miss some Seniors next year but still have plenty of kids coming back to help build on the first winning season for the soccer program at Cooper.

Wow, that score has got to be the shock of the night, or even the season!

Well said, yellow card, a classy note to finish off Cooper's season.

And Williams is first team all region??? Cooper's relatively weak schedule allowed them to post an impressive record with great stats, but in the end, they suffered for it. Way to go NCC, great group of guys!!!

I think Cooper's inexperience in general is what caught up with them. It was time to step up their game and Cooper didn't answer the bell. Good teams adapt and modify their game for weather, field conditions and opponent when up against it. NCC did tonight by responding and not reacting.

soccerfan259,

Yes, Williams was voted to the first team.... you failed to mention that he was also the Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

As for the weak schedule, this is the toughest schedule they have ever played... could it be stronger... yes... not sure I would call it weak though.

I also think that it is worth pointing out that they had a 5-1 record against the other teams that made it to the 9th Region Tournament.

I think the inexperience in the post-season, and large number of underclassman hurt them tonight. They seemed shocked when they fell behind a couple of goals and never recovered.

I also give a lot of credit to NCC, they played like a veteran club and a team that has been to 3 straight Regional Finals.

Congrats to NCC on the win.

Congrats to Cooper on a season to be proud of.

Yellow Card---Please continue to stick around and provide your soccer commentary through the post season. :thumb:

Sounds like everything came together for NCC. They are always tough come tournament time and proved so again (by a margin no one predicted).

Cooper had a simply amazing season and everyone who finished the season last night should be proud of their accomplishments.
