  1. I have nothing invested in their success or failure. No reason for pot shots. It is not a criticism to say they are not athletic. Not their fault either. God either blesses you with speed or he doesn't. They have a nice team. They play hard. Played a tough schedule. Look at their losses. IMO they have lost against teams with more athleticism. Simon Kenton is a good example. If you have a different view for their ups and downs that's great. You probably have a connection to their team and know more of what is going on internally. I don't. I only comment on what I see on the floor. Not apologizing for that.
  2. I've seen both of these teams quite a bit this season and was at the game last night. IMO Grant is not getting enough out of Wright. I think she is only averaging something like 10 a game. That isn't enough for them to win. She should be a 20+ scorer. Anyone can see how good she is with the ball. She is quick, has good size, can shoot off the move. She could take anyone Walton had off the dribble last night. She has another gear when she chooses to use it. Outside of her and Harmeyer, Grant is limited offensively. Walton is sound fundamentally...all their kids know how to play the game (all have good basketball IQ's) but they are limited athletically. Not a lot of team quickness out there. I can see why they have had an up and down year so far. They struggle defending. FWIW, just my observations.
  3. :isurrender: Heresy I say! College and pro basketball have been ruined enough already. Lets not do the same to high school.
  4. Absolutely agree. We are getting off topic of the thread...but I have to say it is hard for most high school coaches blessed with a kid like him to resist the urge of capitalizing on his/her strengths so the team succeeds rather than doing what is best for the player's long term development. The coach is in a tough spot if they choose the latter because people will accuse him/her of putting the player ahead of the team. But the reality is that kids like Williams rarely come along at places such as Owen County (no disrespect). My feeling is that if you think he has the chance to play major D1 then you give him every opportunity to develop his skills for the position he is projected to play at the next level. I doubt there are many blue collar, 6'5" post players with decent ball handling skills tearing it up at any elite D1 school at the moment.
  5. I've watched him since 8th grade and agree with everything you say. IMO if he is to reach his full potential he needs to play exclusively on the perimeter. If he as major D1 aspirations (which every kid with his talent does) then he would have to play 2G in college. I haven't seen him in AAU so maybe he gets the chance to play the perimeter in that environment. It is a difficult balancing act for his high school coach because he is more effective and their team will probably be more successful if he plays close to the basket. No one can match up with him physically in the 8th. But I think it is somewhat of a disservice to him if you don't "require" him to play the majority of games on the perimeter until crunch time, then you can move him closer to the basket and take full advantage of the match up problems he creates.
  6. I was at this one and to me having Ruebusch on the floor makes Grant a much more dangerous team. I think she started the season playing mostly JV. I think she is their best option in the post. Does a nice job of finishing and really goes to the boards well. Grant needs a third scorer to go with Harmeyer and Wright and based on last night's game Ruebusch looks like she could fill that role.
  7. Don't forget Jeff Royce leading Bourbon to the final game in '84.
  8. Agree with the starting 5. Robert Pfister, Mitch Jones, David Parks, and Tim Simpson should be added to the honorable mention.
  9. Owen County Bobby Nix Bruce Nix Carson Williams Sawyer Williams Jason Sharp
  10. For Boone: David Dinn Allen Feldhaus Sr. For Conner: John Crigler Feldhaus and Crigler played at UK.
  11. Williamstown High School Arnie Risen (Ohio State/NBA Hall of Fame) Fred Hale (Georgetown College/Top 15 All-time on KHSAA scoring list) Bryan Milburn (Vanderbilt/Kentucky All-Star/All-A Regional Champion) Steve Wood (East Tenn St.) Zach Mefford (Asbury College/2K+ points)
  12. Don't know what Ballard has this year but I've seen Male and they have a nice squad. Should be a great game.
  13. Interesting 32nd District match up tonight. Walton was a pre-season pick as one of the top teams in the region but is off to 1-3 start. Williamstown looks like it has improved from last year. Who do you have?
  14. Grant finally gets revenge for 77-52 loss to Dirk Minniefield, Tony Wilson, Junior Johnson and Co. in 1st round of 1979 Sweet 16!
  15. Agree. Walton is off to a rocky start. Surprised Grant played SK this close on the road. Should be interesting indeed.
  16. In a way I did...it was North Carolina's identity and reason to root against them. You have to have teams to root against more than those to root for. Makes the game more interesting. The 3 point line and the shot clock has taken away variety among teams. Everyone pretty much plays the same style now. Before these rules were adopted in college you used to have running teams like Louisville and Phi Slamma Jamma and you had tempo-control teams like Carolina and Indiana and you had lock down defensive-minded teams like Georgetown. You don't have that variety anymore and you don't get to see David knock off Goliath like you used to with NC State in 83 and Villanova in 85. Sorry for being nostalgic.
  17. Agree with u Triple...one of the best coaching staffs in NKy. They will have them ready by tourney time.
  18. Surprising start for the Bearcats with all that returned from last year's squad. However, they haven't exactly opened up with cupcakes. They have played some good teams all on the road.
  19. Whoa...not criticizing. Only making the observation she is a streaky shooter (which you confirm). I have no idea what the relationship is with her sister coaching her. She may be very hard on her in the huddle and locker room (you must be connected to them as you sound as if you know) BUT, unless their name is LeBron James or Kevin Durant, allowing any player to shoot 28 times in a game (20 of them 3's) is giving them a significant amount of leeway. I have seen enough coaches with children or immediate relatives playing for them to know when a player is allowed to have free reign out on the court. That is the only point I was making. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers.
  20. Depends on how many the player makes. 10/20=great, 7/20=good, but 4/20=bad.
  21. The 3 point shot has changed the way the game is played and not for the better IMO. Everything now is a layup or a 3. Nothing in between. To me the game was more entertaining before it came along. I know I will get criticized as old-fashioned so bring it on.
  22. Her game is one-dimensional in that respect. Relies too much on the 3. She would be more effective if she drove more. Everyone knows she can shoot from deep when she is on and respects that.
  23. Her sister coaches her and from what I've seen she gets a lot of leeway. But don't misunderstand...the nights she is on she can make it tough on a defense and she seems to be able to hit shots when they mean the most at the end of games. She is just a very, very streaky shooter. Can shoot you in or out of a game.
