  1. I believe that Russell, East and Boyd top this list because they are so experienced...without losing much (if anyone) from last years teams. However, if Rowan can surround Berry and Callahan with solid players...they could get some wins against those teams.
  2. Rowan County did lose four seniors from last years squad, but they do have Morgan Berry and Allyson Callahan coming back. Two of the top players in the region will give most teams problems. The question becomes how do the new girls in the rotation fill the shoes of the departing seniors. They need Kyrah Jones, Kammi Rose, Angela Marcum plus a few more to mature quickly and they will be in real good shape. I would say they are clearly #4 in the region, behind Russell, East and Boyd. However, after seeing the girls play in the summer (and it is just summer ball), I think they will be competitive against those teams too.
  3. Top Ten Teams in the 16th Region: 1.) Russell 2.) East Carter 3.) Boyd County 4.) Rowan County 5.) Fleming County 6.) Ashland 7.) West Carter 8.) Greenup County 9.) Lewis County 10.) Fairview Top Ten Players in the 16th Region: 1.) Mykasa Robinson, Ashland 2.) Kristen Mayo, East Carter 3.) Savannah Wheeler, Boyd County 4.) Maggie Jachimczuk, Russell 5.) Madison Darnell, Russell 6.) Haley Hall, East Carter 7.) Morgan Berry, Rowan County 8.) Journey Steward, Fleming County 9.) Allyson Callahan, Rowan County 10.) Tori Ishmael, Fleming County
  4. Out of curiosity, the KHSAA website has the final score as being 49 - 42.
  5. Good write up, overall! I think your assessment of Rowan County being good is spot on...however, they have a lot more than Morgan Berry. While they are excited to have her join the team and she does add a lot to the team...she may not be the best player on that team. Sarah Purdy gets overlooked and she has developed a nice jump shot along with her inside post moves. Allyson Callahan has a solid three point shot, along with post moves and very good with the ball in her hands. Again, not saying Berry isn't really good...but she is one part of a team that will be pretty good.
  6. Finally got my Cats Pause: PreSeason Top 10 1. East Carter 2. Boyd County 3. Russell 4. Fleming County 5. Rowan County 6. Ashland 7. Greenup County 8. Lewis County 9. Menifee County 10. 7. I have been trying to find a Cats Pause and can't find one...anyone have the 16th Region girls rankings?
  8. They are not the best, they just won the regional tournament. I hate to see this score, but it didn't surprise me?
  9. That isn't really a fair statement. He averages over two assists (which isn't a ton and I don't know about Perry)...plus, Rowan's offense is designed to get him shots. On top of that he averages 22.2 points per game and only averages 15 shots per game. Honestly, my choice would have been Callahan...if nothing more than the fact that statistically they are very close and head to head Callahan led his team to a victory against Morgan. I also agree with the statement of Elliott playing the same players and defense against both players. However, they are both good lookin' ball players and are fun to watch.
  10. Thovson - Boyd County Whelan - Rowan County Hall - Fleming County The rest look good.
  11. My thought is Morgan by 10, but it has been shocking how interesting Ashland has made this last month of the season after a dismal year. Villers and Miller may be enough, but they will need some other players to show up to get the win. Honestly, because of Nick Miller, I am pulling for the upset...he's a flat out good kid who has had a rough senior season.
  12. My guess is Raceland by 6, but Wilder plays like a maniac (in a good way) and won't go down easily! He can be a one man wrecking crew at times. If Fleming's guards make a strong showing it wouldn't surprise a bit for an upset in this game.
  13. I am definitely not say anyone should take a game lightly and I know that Rowan didn't take the game lightly, but we are talking about teenage boys who were a little flat and still led by 8 to 10 pretty much all of the game. They will definitely have to up the effort tomorrow, but I am sure they will...they have done it all year. By the way, I totally respect the talent on Greenup County's team. They have great athletes who, as a whole, didn't perform this year. I am sure it is very frustrating for you!
  14. Josh Ravenscraft had an ankle sprain and they held him out. When people say Rowan played flat, against a team they beat by 37 a month ago, wouldn't you? It didn't seem like they were ever really threatened even though they couldn't quite pull away. Elliott is a good team...it should be a good game.
  15. FIRST: I didn't hear the top half of the bracket complaining because they were going to have three games in four days when they had only moved the Wednesday night games. SECOND: I guess we just ignore the fact that the girls finals are being played on Saturday night. I the top half of the bracket suppose to be played at 8 in the morning? That seems fair. The weather has put a hick-up in everyone's game and game preparation. It will just come down to who can weather the storm (literally)!
  16. Overall, Fleming got a better road to the championship game than Rowan did! It would have been nice to see Boyd and Rowan with a chance to play in the finals, but I know that there are a few of those teams who will have something to say about it. Morgan vs. Rowan in the finals. Rowan will cut down the nets.
  17. 18. All-Tournament Team Bath County – Caden Messer, Jake Mitchell; Menifee County – Jordan Mann, Tyler Thacker; Fleming County – Wilder Williams, Ashton Hall, Jacob Boyd; Rowan County – Larry Whelan, Justin Graham, Brandon Moore; Most Valuable Player - Ryne Callahan, Rowan County.
  19. A few stats from the game: ROWAN Callahan 23 points (6 of 11 shooting) 3-6 3pt Graham 22 points (7 of 14 shooting) 2-4 3pt Moore 6 points and 6 rebounds Ravenscraft 6 points 5 rebounds Whelan 5 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assts Williams 6 points and 4 rebounds Roberts, Pratt and Chapman 2 points Flannery 1 point FLEMING COUNTY Williams 18 points and 13 rebounds Hall 9 points Glascock 6 points McAdams 6 points Hurd 4 points James 3 points Crump 2 points Waller, Alexander and Hamm 1 point
  20. ROWAN COUNTY Callahan 29 pts (10 of 16 shooting) 6-3pt; 3 assts; 4 steals Graham 17 pts (7 of 10) 4 asst; 3 steals Whelan 8 pts; 11 assts Ravenscraft 6 pts Moore 7 pts Roberts 4 pts Chapman 4 pts Thomas 2 pts BATH COUNTY Messer 14 pts Mitchell 13 pts Ratliff 6 pts Rogers 6 pts Patton 3 pts Johnson 2 pts
  21. It is for seniors only. I believe that the winners in every region automatically are nominated for Mr. Basketball, which is a senior only award. I am sure there will be other award that will put Perry and Callahan against each other...two great ball players.
  22. Congrats to Ryne Callahan of Rowan County who has been named the 2015 Region 16 KABC Boys Player of the Year.
  23. Actually, per the scorebook: Callahan 23 points Whelan 15 points Moore 15 points Graham 4 points Ravenscraft 2 Roberts 2 Williams 2 Thomas 2
  24. Actually Callahan had 16 and Graham 10 per Mason County stat sheet (Graham had 12 per the score book). Mason County is a tough team...very physical and athletic. Rowan will have to quit playing passive on the offensive end, when playing outside of the region, in order to beat those tougher teams.
  25. Rowan does have the size...four or five that rotate. The question is how they will play. Brandon Moore has the length to match up with Henry, but will he be aggressive enough. Ravenscraft and Williams and Chapman (possibly Thomas) will easily match up with O'Mara. Of course, I don't imagine Rowan will be the first team to have a match up problem with Henry. Last year, he got in early foul trouble against Rowan, so there's that. :-) Rowan can win! I'll be bold and say Rowan by 3!
