  1. It started out good defense. Rowan went up 19 to 0 before a Jackson layup. However, It kinda avalanched on Greenup after that...they begam missing wide open layups. Callahan 21pts 4 assts 4 steals Graham 12 pts 4 assts 3 stls Whelan 6 pts 4 assts 11 reb Moore 9 pts Ravenscraft 8 pts Jackson 16 pts (most after Rowans starters pulled) Hughesheld scoreless
  2. Actually the score was Rowan 79; Menifee 41 Rowan outscored Menifee 25 to 5 in the second quarter. Senior Justin Graham had a career high 33 points.
  3. In the 16th Region I would have to say it is between Ryne Callahan and Jordan Perry. IMO I would give the nod to Callahan.
  4. Final from Rowan. Ryne Callahan: 36 points (9 from 12 from 3 point range; 13 for 17 fg) Derek Williams: 16 points, 7 reb Larry Whelan: 8 assists, 4 steals Jacob Blair: 21 points
  5. Final in 61st District Action Callahan with 24 points and 7 steals Graham with 19 points Whelan with 9 rebounds and 5 assts Hall 15 points
  6. This is not a tournament, but quite a few good matchups. Friday Night at RCSHS 6pm Wolfe Co vs. West Carter 7:45pm Montgomery Co. vs. Dixie Heights 9:30pm Lewis County vs. Rowan County Friday Night at RCMS 6pm Bath County vs. Riverside Christian 7:45pm Johnson Central vs. GRC 9:30pm Belfry vs. East Jessamine Saturday at RCSHS 12pm Johnson Central vs. Dixie Heights 1:45pm West Jessamine vs. Breathitt County 3:30pm Estill County vs. Nicholas County 5:15pm Montgomery County vs. Johnson Central 7:00pm Rowan County vs. Wolfe County 8:45pm Knott Central vs. Covington Catholic Saturday at RCMS 12pm East Jessamine vs. Montgomery County 1:45pm Louisville Holy Cross vs. Belfry 3:30pm Lewis County vs. Buckhorn 5:15pm Trimble County vs. Bath County 7:00pm Breathitt County vs. Louisville Holy Cross
  7. Good run-down! Several teams playing better than expected. Just a reminder...it is Brandon Moore for the Vikings, not Justin.
  8. Close game for a little over a half, but Callahan caught fire and the Vikings pulled away. Callahan 26 Graham 10 Ravenscraft 10 Whelan 7 The only one I can remember on Morgan County's is Perry with 14.
  9. Rowan County Callahan 20 points, 3 assists Graham 16 points Ravenscraft 10 points, 8 rebounds Whalen 8 assists Callahan and Whelan got in foul trouble early and it did effect the team. Bryan Station is extraordinarily athletic and Rowan turned the ball over too much.
  10. Just to be clear. Pretty decent preview. We all have our own order of top players...no big deal. My only point is that the boys bust their back sides to play this game and they do deserve to have their names spelled right. Just simply a courtesy. I see the typo with Graham. But it is Brandon Moore, Ryne Callahan and Larry Whelan. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
  11. I will correct myself...he was 0 for 4 with Rowan County names. Whalen instead of Whelan!
  12. Some of what this preview says is fine, but it is obvious that whoever wrote it doesn't know what they are talking about with Rowan County. The only name he got right was Larry Whelan (and imagine that, he is ranked #2). Braham? Justin Moore? Ryan? If you are going to be an expert...at least get the names right.
  13. The one thing about the 16th Region girls basketball players...there are a lot of good ones. I am not sure you can argue any of the top ten, perhaps, order...yet, there are a lot of deserving girls that there just isn't room for in the top ten. You can't put 15 players in ten spots. I will say this...it should be an entertaining year in girls basketball in the 16th.
  14. Players Rankings from the Cats Pause (by Aaron Snyder, Ashland Daily Independent) 1.) Alexis Robinson, Ashland 2.) Logan Fraley, Boyd 3.) Kristen Mayo, East 4.) Sarah Price, Bath 5.) Haley-Sue Foutch, Ashland 6.) Martina Lytle, Fleming 7.) Emily Frye, Lewis 8.) Savannah Anderson, Lewis 9.) Shelby Gransberry, Ashland 10.) Ashton Woodard, Menifee
  15. I am pretty sure that Montgomery County plays Rowan County at the Joe B. Hall Classic this year. I suppose they could have rearranged some things, but last I heard was that Rowan was playing Montgomery.
  16. I would have tendency to agree with everything. I knew that Miller and Callahan would be a toss up and being an Ashland guy was making the list, it doesn't surprise me. However, I like Nick's game alot.
  17. Rankings by Aaron Snyder, Ashland Daily Independent Preseason Top 10 Teams 1. Rowan County 2. Boyd County 3. Greenup County 4. Elliott County 5. Ashland 6. Fairview 7. East Carter 8. Raceland 9. Lewis County 10. Morgan County Player Ranking 1. Nick Miller, Ashland 2. Ryne Callahan, Rowan 3. Wilder Williams, Fleming 4. Jair Jackson, Greenup 5. Jordan Perry, Morgan 6. Bobby Anderson, Boyd 7. Larry Whelan, Rowan 8. Conner Guaze, Boyd 9. Connor Greene, East Carter 10. Ben Jordan, West Carter
  18. I know Elliott is a good team with a lot of varsity experience (even though they don't have many seniors). Their game hinges on the three pointer going down. Their big man gets in foul trouble a lot, so if they are not hitting a lot of three pointers, they are not as good a team. That being said, they definitely will have something to say about who comes out of the 16th Region.
  19. Jordan Perry is a very good shooter/player...definitely one of the top in the region. I don't think that he is the best...but that is an opinion. If you are a Morgan County fan, you should have him high on the list. There is no problem there. And Callahan does have Graham and Whelan on his team...so obviously it is a reason why he is good, but he's been putting up 30 and 40 point games in AAU ball this summer without them. Graham is a good defensive player, but offensively is not as good as Callahan. It will be a great year in the 16th Region and there are a lot of good players. It should be fun to watch.
  20. Wilder is the big guy from Fleming County. He is the only starter returning from that team...I think he is only one with playing time returning. He is a high energy big guy and works the boards hard. I'm not sure about his jump shot, but what he does around the rim is pretty impressive. He will be a senior this year.
  21. The top teams are always a gamble because of transfers and exchange students in the region. Unless, someone went out and really improved themselves, I believe that Rowan County and Boyd County are the class of the region. However, Greenup County and Elliott County will be right there putting pressure on them. The top players are Ryne Callahan, Nick Miller and Jair Jackson. Jackson is the best athlete in the region, but he seems to only finish at the rim (which he does well), Callahan and Miller have all around games. Anderson is very good and probably the best point guard in the region. I would put him in the next three. Wilder Williams' name could also be thrown in there.
  22. Just a thought for those who keep saying that the best thing to happen to Rowan County was the graduation at Fleming County. It may hold some truth, but the best thing that happened for Fleming County, a couple years ago, was the graduation at Rowan County (Wing, Townsend, and Egan). You can't stay in high school forever (no matter what some try to do)...graduation happens. Just a thought.
  23. Rowan, Boyd, Greenup, East Carter, Elliott, could be others. Again, Nick Miller is the only player with a lot of playing time that they have coming back. They lost five seniors (four which played alot) and Damantie Thornton transfered out. They just don't have a lot left...a lot of young players with very little experience and watching them over the summer, they are a bit short on talent (could get better).
