In their first six games, mostly with 8th region officiating, SK has drawn many more fouls than their opponents. The pattern of this game was reversed. For some reason, the officiating crew was mixed with one 8th region official and two out of region officials. My understanding is that the 8th region official on the crew apologized to Coach Stowers for the quality of officiating in that game. Can't get a stronger statement than that.!

Officials have never won or lost a game
Are you kidding? Have you have ever taken a team outside your region to compete in a tournament? Its very common for officiating to biased towards local teams participation. Officiating bias in High School Basketball is common and most definitely influences results and occurs in situations where the offended team has limited avenues of holding such officiating accountable!

I was not at this game and only have 3rd party accounts. CAL shot a lot more free throws than SK who also had multiple players foul out. Ironically, the winning point was scored on a free throw by Megan Buckner with about 2 seconds left.

There are at least 3 programs in NKy alone that are significantly stronger than SK at this moment. HHS, Holmes and Holy Cross have talented, experienced and deep teams.

All that I heard was that this game was strongly influenced by officiating.

Cooper 53 Walton Verona 47
I know in football, KHSAA comes around and does a campus tour to update players and coaches on rule changes. Sounds like what we have here is an education problem that KHSAA needs to address. Inviting one official to comment on the call of another in a public forum may have unintended consequences. Suggest you deal with it in PMs.

What are the rules for a legal layup?
Just out of curiosity, is the euro move called a travel consistently in girls AAU ball as well?

I think kids are flat right now from mid term stress, less sleep and less resistance to illness as a result. I wonder if coaches think about such things when scheduling? I'm with you on the eurostep. So what are we supposed to do, coach our kids not to execute a legal move because officiating will not acknowledge it as such?

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
I'll be blunt. The beauty of the girl's and women's game is that it is played below the rim, where Naismith originally intended the game to be played. In the girls game, you have to be able to score by moving the ball on offense, by converting turnovers caused by in your face defense and by skilled post play. There are no back door alley oop dunks in the girls game. The boys game has become dominated by athleticism often at the expense of individual and team skill. The girls game is primarily a game of skill (although there are many fine female athletes as well). They are different games and they should be officiated by different folks. When I read comments in this thread like (paraphrasing) "If we called it close, games would take 4 hours." To me that is code for "I really want to be somewhere else."

There is no pivot on a Euro Step! It is just a layup with the steps taken at an angle rather than straight to the basket. It is still just 2 steps and very legal!

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
I'm guessing that Sparky has a daughter that is a big kid. I have seen calls not made on contact with big kids. Kind of leaves me the impression that officials let those go because big kids "should be able to absorb that kind of contact". Hand checks get called, but muggings under the basket are not called. Seen it plenty of times.

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
The worst is when they are out of position and allow a coach or fan to influence a call. If you did'nt see it, admit it and look for help from another official before making the call! Making a definitive call when obviously out of position will lead to challenges to every call made. Admitting that you were out of position and did't see a call will lead to respect.

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
So a coach has to adapt to a different rule book for every game? So be it if everybody fouls out! Just because they all work both, doesn't mean they are competent at both! BTW, ever notice a difference between how male coaches are treated fom femaile coaches?

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
You just made my point for me! If its a foul, it should be called. If its a violation, it should be called. Its not up the official to decide which violations to whistle and which ones to let go!

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
Does not address my second point!

Quality of Officials Assigned to work Girls Game
Beat me up if you will, but I'm going to say this and let folks react. Does it seem that officials assigned to girls games are not as competent as those assigned to boys games? Do officials working girls games resent that they are not working boys games? Ok, let it fly!

Simon Kenton 2015 Schedule
I bet no one gives Cooper grief for scheduling NCC! But I will! C'mon Borchers, step up to the plate! You are playing in the big boy league now!

Simon Kenton 2015 Schedule
Careful, with Cooper moving up to 6A, don't be expecting to get a whiff of regional titles, much less state championship games. And, oh by the way, now that Cooper is playing with the big boys, what does the Jag schedule look like?
