Boone starts game with six runs in the top of 1, but makes game a little interesting in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Holy Cross threatened while leaving runners on the bags. Nice hits by several of the Rebels. Boone finishes the game on a strong note.

Who pitched for both squads?

Walter, You must had a mid season report on Boone, Besides Mayberry, Stanley, Stockwell, the next most minutes on varsity for returning players was Downs and Purnell. Downs goes on scoring streaks and Purnell is probable Boone's best rebounder. Donovan picked up some good minutes with his great ball handling. Pickett was only on the team for about a couple of weeks and quit. I think Boone's coaches are too smart to waste a spot next year on a kid who quits. Thompson with his ability to shoot the three and Floyd with his defense quickness will get minutes off the bench. Hopefully, Boone doesn't lose players who decide to concentrate on one sport.

Where are the games being played? Freedom ? Somebody's turf football field?

Is locking down the Birds a good measurement on how a pitcher will do against top teams? If so, I like Boone's chances of going deep this season. Everyone knows about Boone's Ganns, but Boone played the Birds early and let Soph Purnell only go 3 innings and he was making it look easy. 12 batters, 7 k's. I think Boone's Ganns, Purnell, & Huff could give them enough to make a good run. But I agree with Big Cat, You can't just base it on who has the top 3 or 4 starters, it takes a little defense and offense. I do think the Birds are getting a early edge getting in some good games down in SC while everyone else is taking grounders in the parking lot or gym.

Great win for the Rebels. Ganns pitched 6 2/3 innings. Purnell comes in 3-2 game and picks up first save of the season.

Bellevue threw 3 different pitchers. Hayes was the starter. Will need help with the names of the two other pitchers, # 12 and #21

Boone's bats stay hot in Bellevue tonight. Ganns line drives one out of the park. The defense stays tight. Teegarden / Griffin combine for no - hitter. Rebels head south to Harrison Co. tomorrow night.

I'm sure they will adjust , but they also had issues with Boone's starter. Low to mid 80's

Sounds like the birds are having a little trouble with hitting the higher velocity fastball early in the season but taking care of business on the opposition's relievers. Is this going to hurt the birds when teams start taking their starters farther into the game or do they adjust ?

Ot The varsity game was yesterday, I think the JV games was yesterday as well. Today was probably not the best day to have a game.

Birds did have pretty good defense behind their pitching. It seemed like there was more hits for Boone. Boone had 4 or 5 mistakes on the base path which resulted in outs. Were they on with walks?

Boone was scheduled to play the defending state champions on Sat, so I figure they stayed with their rotation plan. I think Trey G only pitched about 35 pitches against Holmes for a warm up. Boone pitched Soph. Jeffrey Purnell against Highlands which was hitting low 80"s during his freshman year. They only pitched Jeffrey 3 complete innings with 38 pitches and had 7 k's . I think Boone is looking at the bigger picture not just early wins, if so Purnell would have probable stayed in the game and walked away with about 15 k's and his first W of the season.

Both teams had good pitching today. Overall, both teams had good defensive games, tho PRP had several infield errors. But as mention above, the umps had a big part of the final score. Nothing against PRP, but someone there should talk with their umpire provider. The ump behind the plate called a pretty good game until about the fifth inning and must have decided the 2 -1 game was too close and to make the strike zone for Boone pitchers the size of a shoe box. The ump in the field probable needs to work Knothole baseball for a few more years and when he can keep up with A league, come back and try again. No team should feel good about a win when that much help is provided by the umps, and definitely no teams like to lose or a score ran up because of poor umpires. Final score w/o umps miscues should have been 3-1,maybe 3-2 win for PRP.
