Agree. I would never be comfortable going up a Rodney Woods' coached team come tourney time. He's always capable of beating you. I don't know how many remember but Rodney Woods was the coach at Corbin before Billy Hicks. Coach Woods met his wife while at Corbin. That's quite the story in itself.

Saw Wayne a couple of weeks ago and they didn't look very impressive. Knox struggled last game and just barely survived Fred Douglass in double OT. All of this coming after being totally embarrassed by Corbin. Looks like the Panthers are in a funk. Btw, Rodney Woods can flat out coach. He would school Patterson 100 times out of 100.

Who do think I am, Gametime??? :lol2: He still has another year to develop his skills but I definitely think he can play college ball somewhere. Do you know who might be looking at him?

For those who don't know, J.J. Ramey, South Laurel's outstanding Junior , was determined to be profoundly deaf at about one year of age. He wears a cochlear in his right ear. He's been offered a second implant but doesn't want to go through a second surgery. The young man is a terrific athlete. He has some major hops. He had a nice alley oop dunk tonight.

Absolutely no surprise here. 2/5 of Corbin's starting five in street clothes. That amounts to 30 pts. and a dozen boards a game. Anders had 20 and Ramey added 17 for the Cards. Stewart and Taylor(Matthew, that is) each had 19 for the Hound Dogs. Corbin welcomes in the defending 13th region champs, Harlan County Black Bears, on Friday.

Doss had a nice week. Looking forward to the Corbin -Doss game in a few weeks. The Hounds should be(hopefully) back at full strength by then.

Having watched this rivalry evolve over the years from an intense, competitive border war to what is now a festering boil of personal hatred between the schools, the fan bases, and the communities , I would like to add some information that may be of interest to those not as familiar with our part of the state. After watching more than 30+ years of games between these two schools, I feel like I am qualified to add some insight on what has arguably become the most heated, most vicious, nastiest HS rivalry in the state of Kentucky. A lot has gone on of late that has only added fuel to what was already a wildfire. We all know what has dominated the news of late but there are things that have occurred recently that haven't been widely reported. Until now, perhaps. Before commenting further, I am going to wait and make sure that this topic is okay to talk about. I think it's an important topic, one that needs more background and added context for those not as familiar with the Tri-County area of SE KY. Plus, I have a suggestion, possibly a surprising suggestion, for both school administrations. I'll wait and see if the thread stays alive before making any further statements.

It's hard to fathom how dense the baby universe was. Consider, for a minute, how dense neutron stars are. One sugar cubed size of neutron star material would weigh more than all humanity--- and there are a lot of fat humans!!!

That's a good question and a very hard one to answer. I'm still thinking about it. I asked a physicist and he seemed at a loss to add much. I've sent out a message to astrophysicist, Michio Kaku, but I'm not very hopeful of getting a response anytime soon. Most astrophysicists accept that the universe was born as an incredibly hot, dense point in space. Unlike what the name might suggest, there was probably no explosion in space but just the appearance of space everywhere in the baby universe. When the universe was VERY young- something like a hundredth of a billionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second- it underwent an incredible spurt of growth, doubling in size something like 90 times or more. During this expansion, it was cooling and getting less dense(though it was still unimaginably dense at this point). Note, at this time there was still no matter. It had yet to form. After this period of inflation , our universe continued to grow, but at a slower rate. As space continued to expand, the universe cooled and matter formed. The rest, as we say, is history. What started as a single infinitesimally small point could fit in the palm of your hand just a hundredth of a billionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second later. Much less than a second later, it's the size of the Earth. That's quite the growth spurt. It's hard to fathom, I know. It's one of those things that hard for the human mind to comprehend. Space appeared from a hot, dense point , expanded incredibly fast, expansion continued but at a "slower" rate, continued expansion, universe cools, matter forms... and so on... Wish I had a better answer. We'll have to wait on Michio .

Corbin's radio crew said Allen was the best player they've seen by a Corbin opponent in years. He was fun to watch.

Chandler Stewart led the Hounds, who were absent their superstar guard, with 33 pts @ East Jessamine High School. Junior Brody Barton, coming back after tearing up his knee, saw his first action of the season in the Redhounds' 13 point win. Next up for Corbin , who improved to 14-3 on the season, is a district battle with South Laurel in London on Tuesday.

Good win for the maroons. it will be interesting to see how they respond to having to play two games against two good teams in one day. I think they may get clipped by GRC tonight.

Maybe so. I've been to enough of these Corbin -Knox tilts. It's not hard to predict what's coming. Lots of animus between the fan bases. While the intensity of the last game was terrific, the hostility and tensions made the basketball hard to watch at times. There was never a whole lot of flow to the game and I don't think either team really got to showcase just how good they are. It was a hard game to watch at times . I just want to watch good basketball tomorrow night.

Andrew is such a gem of a kid. Very humble. Such an easy kid to root for.

Will this be the game that Anthony Pietrowski unleashes his 6 ft 8, 300 lb monster for the first time this season? Will he wait until a third potential meeting in March? I'd like to see Mr. Nick Martin try to take Mr. Rice down to the floor by the neck. WWE is coming to Corbin on March 10, but we might get a little preview tomorrow night at Gilliam Gym. Get there early to secure your ringside seats.

Yeah, it can be. But if Knox doesn't win it will be because Corbin was better Friday night and not because Knox was playing 5 on 8 like a lot of people will want to think. These are two, REALLY good basketball teams. By the time the post-season rolls around, these two will be legitimate top Ten teams in anyone's poll. With a break here and there, either one could possibly be playing on a Saturday March morning in Rupp. I think there is a good possibility Knox Central may enter the 13th region title game with a 31-1 record. They are that good. If they do get the win Friday @ Corbin, they have a game the next day at Harlan County. That could be a challenge coming off an emotional and draining Friday night.

I thought I'd get this one started early so there could be plenty of discussion before this one tips off this Friday @ Corbin. I also want to invite any BGP'ers to come to town and take this one in. It is always one of the best games in the state when these two rivals square off. Knox Central is 15-1 on the season. Their only loss was to George Washington High School out of Charleston, VA. KC is a legit top 10 team, and may well go undefeated the remainder of the regular season. I could very easily see this team entering the 13th region tourney with a 29-1 record. They are that good! Corbin is 12-3 on the season, with their only losses coming to Lex. Cath. , Knox Central, and Upson-Lee HS out of Thomasson, GA. , a team that is 18-0 and has won over 50 straight games. Corbin led Upson-Lee by a dozen pts. after three quarters. Corbin also beat a highly-regarded team out of PA. in that same tournament. Corbin's loss to Knox Central was in the finals of the Cumberland Falls Invitational. The game featured an ejection, multiple technicals, and some really, really rough, and some might even say, dirty play. Let's face it, these two fan bases cannot stand one another. The city of Corbin and Knox County have had their fights in the courts as well, including the non-resident reciprocal agreement that the Knox BOE axed a few yrs. ago. The point is - when these two schools get together , the fans usually don't play nice and a lot of times, the animus spills over onto the basketball court, as it did the first time these teams met. Throw into the equation that these two teams are both REALLY REALLY good and it makes for a must see game this Friday at Gilliam Gym in Corbin. Last Year: Corbin beat Knox to win the CFIT championship last year by a score of 76-71. The Panthers beat the Hounds 93-80 at Knox Central's home gym, in another game that featured multiple technicals. Corbin ended the Panthers season 55-52 in the 13th region semis. Panther fans felt they were robbed(not exactly an unusual sentiment on their part) when Markelle Turner was called for a controversial charge late in the game. The Panthers got some measure of revenge in their CFIT win this year. That brings us to Friday's titanic struggle. It should be another war. There was not a lot of sportsmanship exhibited on the court or in the stands the first time around this year. I would expect much the same this Friday. Corbin vs. Knox Central .... Andrew Taylor vs. Markelle Turner??? Who do you have and why?
