ggclfan is absolutely correct. If HHS is to win at the Pit, they must keep the power running game at bay. Coach Mueller is well aware of that fact and needs to get the players ready for the pounding or they will be in for a long night once again.

The GCL (Greater Catholic League) has at least three tiers. The GCL is an 18 school conference. They have the all Boys schools (the GCL - South), the all Girls schools (the GGCL - Girls GCL) and the co-ed schools (the GCL Co-Ed, formerly the GCL-North) you can check it out at http://gclsports.com/ All of the GCL-S schools have been OH Div I until this year. LaSalle will be Div II this year. For several years, St X, Elder and Moeller seem to have looked at LaSalle as the "red haired foster child" of the league, so another tier happens in their minds. Oh, the fans from Kentucky think that Highlands is only representing Highlands and that may is absolutely true. However, in the minds of many (not all) of the Elder players and fans, Elder is out to represent the state of Ohio and show that Ohio football is better than Kentucky football, they are not just representing themselves. In the minds of many of the posters on the Ohio board that I sometimes read, the state as a whole may have tied in the "Border War" with Ky last year, but it is what the DI schools do that matters.

Congratulations to Coach Beatty and Coach Specht, but any list that does not contain Coach Bob Ladouceur of Concord, California, De La Salle is questionable.

OK, I'll bite. If it is not sarcasm, they what do you call it? The Birds play @John Hardin (13-1 last year with a one point loss to BG in the state Semis), followed the following week by a long trip to play @ PT (travel may be a factor in the final result) and later in the season a trip to play Elder @ "The Pit" (Elder is always tough and even tougher vs non-GCL-S opponents @ the Pit). Saying that they may 'run the table' is one thing, but saying that they win all by 4 tds is a little over the top and makes it truly suspect, especially from a Highlands "hater." Try again.

For those worried about the price of tickets, if you check out the link at CrossTown - ShowDown you will notice that games at some of the locations, i.e. Lawrenceburg, IN, Cincinnati St. Xavier and both friday night and saturday afternoon at Centerville, OH appear to be the usual high school prices for those locations. I go to a lot of Colerain games and the price is usually $7 for adults at the gate, while the GCL-S charges $8 at the gate. The tickets for double headers and UC facilities (Nippert and Sheakley) are higher, but the rents for the UC facilities are higher. Yes, Tom Gamble and his company will most likely turn a profit, depending on weather, etc, but we do live in a free enterprise system and the person/company that takes the risk needs to make a profit. I am also wondering: With the improvements to DCMS, is Highlands going to up the price of a ticket for all games to cover the costs? That being said, $8 - $10 is not bad for a ticket to see Highlands and University Christian play on national TV.

It is my impression that the only reason that this game is going to be part of the Crosstown Showdown is the Tom Gamble connection to ESPN. In the Cincinnati Enquirer story (http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20130722/SPT030201/307220135/&nclick_check=1) it is stated that Gamble has wanted to get Highlands to be part of the Showdown for years but could not work it out. Then this game came along and the scheduling etc problems that he mentioned just sort of vanished. It is my opinion that Tom Gamble had the connections and used it to his advantage to promote his event, his company and himself. Yes, both Highlands and University Christian benefit from the exposure of national TV with the added financial that University Christian may recoup some of their out of pocket expenses. IMHO, the Skyline Crosstown Showdown is way to large. The Showdown started as local Cincinnati Crosstown games held at Nippert Stadium and now includes games that are not just local games. Look at the schedule: CrossTown - ShowDown 1) How can you call Cincinnati Colerain vs Lake Worth (FL) Park Vista a CROSSTOWN game? How can you call Ben Davis (Indianapolis) vs Cincinnati St. Xavier a CROSSTOWN game? How can you call Beechwood vs Lima (OH) Senior a CROSSTOWN game? How can you call Highlands vs University Christian a CROSSTOWN game? 2) How can the CovCath at Dixie Heights be anything but what it is a regular season HOME game for Dixie? How can the South Dearborn (IN) vs Lawrenceburg (IN) be anything but what it is a regular season HOME game for Lawrenceburg? How can you call Ben Davis (Indianapolis) vs Cincinnati St. Xavier be anything but what it is a regular season HOME game for St. X? The same goes for the Walnut Hills @ Sycamore game. IMO, the Skyline Crosstown Showdown has gotten away from its roots. It has expanded to the point that it is not what it once was. I feel that the event should be rethought and brought back to its roots.

No, I don't think that playing eight (8) games in eleven (11) weeks is playing a top notch team each week. I think that three (3) byes is a break or two or three from a top notch game each week. But that is my opinion (and probably that of several others as well). You can think otherwise, you have the right to have a different opinion. But look at the facts and see who is right.

Never been there, but plan to be there Sept 13 to cheer on my Cardinals. I'll check it out.

Remember, because of the Harbin system to determine the playoffs, in Ohio you cannot afford a down week like you can in KY. In KY, ONLY the district games (and playoff games) are MUST wins, in Ohio, every week is a MUST win if you want to make the playoffs, then the real MUST wins begin. No first and second round "patsys" like KY.. In OHIO, the playoffs are only on a home field during round one, then they are on neutral sites, so very little home field advantage. T could not play most, I did not say all, of their first four playoff games at home or even in Jefferson County. Many of the playoff games in Ohio are 40-50 miles of more from home. It is the not unusual for two Cincinnati teams to play a playoff game in Dayton at Welcome Stadium. State Semifinals for Cincinnati teams are usually in Dayton or sometimes even in suburban Columbus.

Last year, T only lost one game: to Moeller. Moeller lost three games: To Cincinnati St. X, Elder and Lakewood St. Ed. Even with the team that T had last year, they would have been hard pressed to make a run in Ohio DI Region 4, let alone get into the state final 4. 2011 may have been a different story, but 2012 would not have been a pretty sight. IMHO, if they had to play the big boys (GCL-S and Colerain plus St. Eds and St. I) in Ohio week after week, they may have a very hard time making the playoffs. They have the state championship success that they have only because they are in Kentucky. Big fish in a small lake.

PepRock01, Don't tell that to the webmaster at the Trinity website. I cannot find it today, but once during the 2011 season, when I was reading the rather lengthy pregame notes, which includes all the previous result, etc, I noticed that have proclaimed themselves in the masthead as "The Kentucky Powerhouse." No humility there. I doubt that you will find anything like that at any other school website in the Commonwealth.

Actually, Highlands and Bowling Green have played 4 times in 1960, 1961, 1995 and 2007. Highlands is 3-1 vs BG. The 1960 and 1961 games were regular season. I know, I know, this thread is supposed to be the last 10 years but you mentioned the 1995 game, so you left it open to all HHS vs BGHS games. Maybe the 1960's were before you were adopted.

My point is that ten years is not sufficient to make a team a dynasty. Ten years is enough to say that a school had a good run. For Trinity, Highlands and several of the schools listed in the original post, they have had only one coach. When the term dynasty is used, in my mind, it usually is in terms of a ruling family of a monarch. Would you call the reign of only one monarch in a country such as the United Kingdom a dynasty? I would not. A dynasty is like the pharaohes of ancient Egypt, one family ruling for hundreds of years. Now we cannot use that kind of timeframe here, but ten years does NOT make a dynasty.

Dynasty implies a long run. The true #1 dynasty in Kentucky football with state championships both on the field and "mythical" is the school that has at least one per decade starting in 1930: HIGHLANDS, the list of others starts at #2.

Colerain is 114-13 (0.898) over the last ten years with one state championship and most of those losses coming in the playoffs against others on the "dynasty" list (Moeller and Cincinnati St. Xavier). They are 13-0 (1.000) against Out of State (OOS) competition including several defending state champions (Cocoa Fl & Tyler Lee TX) Their opponents record is 753-625 (0.546) Trinity is 126-18 (0.875) over the last ten years with 8 state championships. They are 16-10 (0.615) against OOS, including the likes of Moeller and Cincinnati St. X. Their opponents are 1060-682 (0.608) Cincinnati St. X is 93-29 (0.762) over the last 10 years with 2 state championships. They are 24-7 (0.774) against OOS. Their opponents are 1076-409 (0.724). Louisville St. Xavier is 114-24 (0.826) over the last 10 years with 2 state championships. They are 3-7 (0.300) against OOS playing the likes of Moeller and Cincinnati St. X. Their opponents are 1107-629 (0.638). Highlands is 128-16 (0.889) over the last ten years with 7 state championships. They are 5-7 (0.417) against OOS, playing team like Colerain, Cincinnati St. X and Elder. Their opponents are 1074-689 (0.609). Highlands is listed as #36 on the list. Ranking winning percentage: we have Colerain, Highlands, Trinity, Lou. St. X and Cin. St. X Ranking OOS winning percentage: we have Colerain, Cin. St. X, Trinity, Highlands and Lou. What is the full schedule? I hope that the game is picked up by ESPNU as I will be in Hawaii (Aug 18-Sep 8) when it is played and can DVR the game. I saw the schedule somewhere, but cannot find it now.

What happens to the Jeff Ruby signs? Does he still pay for the advertising? Isn't that about where the clock operator was in the 1960's? I remember that Ted "Bear" Englehardt (math teacher when I was in school) ran the clock and maybe even the scoreboard from a stand between the team benches when both benches were on the same sideline. At that time there was no pressbox, the announcer was on top of the "girls gym". Oh the good old days.
