  1. i'd say HHS has played enough defense to already have beaten St Henry and NCC. only losses for HHS are ND (twice), Conner (twice, 3-2 and 4-2) and Ryle.
  2. 7-4...playing a strong schedule. losses to ND (twice), Conner and Ryle.
  3. From KY Post. HIGHLANDS 11, COOPER 5 – The Bluebirds broke the game open with a seven-run sixth. With the score tied at four, freshman shortstop Haley Coffey doubled home a run to put Highlands ahead for good. Freshman third baseman Brennah Dutcher doubled home three runs to make it 8-4. 4. where do the stats come from? how do they get on cincy.com
  5. against good teams/pitchers too! she hits everyone! think the paper said she's hitting over 600 right now.
  6. Crupper pitched All HHS runs were earned. I believe the guy with HHS' book said 2 earned for Ryle. I know it was 5-0 Ryle after 2 and they should have had 1 run. And we're not talking tough plays. Just loss of focus. HHS started their spring break today. May have caused lack of focus. They will be just fine.
  7. You MUST give the young Brossart kids credit. The younger girls went in and hit the heck out of the ball. Brossart was down 9-1 i think going into the bottom of the 6th. they had already unloaded their entire bench and took their varsity pitcher out. basically let the game go. highlands then put their jv girls in with only 6 outs to get and up 8 runs. well it obviously didn't work out as planned, but when you are up 8 after 5 full innings in a game where the team only scored 1 run up until that point and had already thrown in the towel, the chances of what happened are very slim. It did happen, but against the odds. they say brossart put their freshman in, well 4 of hhs starting 9 are freshman and they start 2 sophs. so when they put in the jv, it's 7th and 8th graders!
  8. Yes there are! And that's why i said it was just a scrimmage. The stories really don't matter or amount to much. But if you must know every detail, HHS also moved players around and used 3 different pitchers. Conner also used 3 pitchers. Conner only had 15-17 kids on their bench and they are much deeper than HHS, so moving kids around for them is not too big of a deal. HHS had 20+ on their bench and they all played multiple innings. I also know of at least one starter that was missing in HHS lineup, not sure if there were others. At one point, one of the fans sitting next to me pointed out that HHS' 6 girls in the infield were all 7th graders...including the pitcher and catcher! Heck, at the very end against the HHS 7th grade group (or what we know as the JV team), there was at least one Conner starter on the field still. No big deal at all, just saying it was a SCRIMMAGE and with them only carrying 15 or so, they played whoever, even at the end.I don't even think either team kept score. There was very little strategy (maybe two bunts in the whole game) so again, not a lot to really talk about. It looked like both teams were just happy to be on the dirt and let the kids play. As for Friday, like I said, the sceduling gods did HHS no favors. They play Dixie and Conner back to back that night. Since "Dixie will be out for revenge for hhs "stealing" their pitcher" (as you put it), it will be intersting to see who pitches which game for HHS. Not sure their number 1 could go that long in the cold this early in the season. But we'll see.
  9. Just don't think any of the bird fans felt it was a big deal. Kinda got the feeling you felt the birds were trying to hide something. Why didn't you call out any Conner fans for not posting about it.
  10. No need to talk about the HHS/Conner scrimmage. Just a scrimmage. It was probably 4-1 with all starters in for about 5 innings. Conner hit the ball pretty decent, but HHS gave them a couple runs also. By no means was HHS out classed or over matched. HHS made some mistakes that led to a few runs and Conner was pretty consistent. Kind of what you'd expect out of the two teams.
  11. Thanks! found a couple more. Holmes 11 Cov Latin 7 Simon Kenton 13 Brossart 4
  12. Man just got the pools for this weekend. The scheduling gods didn't do the Birds any favors. Back to back on friday night at 7:30 and 9 and then back at 9am the next day?????? tough one!
  13. Now thats funny. Also, my experience tells me good pitching neutralizes good hitting...in baseball and fastpitch softball. Pitching is a much bigger part of the game in fastpitch softball. 10th hitting may be better, but wouldn't you expect it to be better against weaker overall pitching (that bgh admits)? if you are facing great pitchers every day, naturally your "hitting" will take a hit. But i'm with ya bgh, we'll get to see what wins out early on this year! My predictions are the top 9th teams will win the majority of the matchups with the 10th because the top teams pitching is so good and they can hit a little bit!!!!!
  14. do you enjoy talking to yourself on a high school forum?
  15. Well here's where you're wrong. Coach Shields had 3 girls. No boys! So l'm not really sure who you're talking about.
  16. Conner should be very good. I will be interested too. But no matter what happens, it's still a very early season scrimmage. I can't believe either team is ready to be "judge" at this point.
  17. They practice on the football field all the time. I think they were out there tonight, even with snow...from what my daughter told me and I saw the lights on when I dropped her off. They have been out there 15-20 times since Oct. They would go out after the football team was done in the fall. From my understanding, it's more of an approval process or something thru the school board to allow them to compete on the field. Not sure if that's true, but that's the rumor I heard. Perhaps liability or something.
  18. i had the same questions. is she still hurt? 2 guys behind us were asking the same question. i was expecting to see more.
  19. they are bigger and stronger, right. but they are 5 deep and only one is a "basketball player" imo. 4 other very good athletes. they make up a very good team. i have only seen a handfull of highlands games. I have seen them play some of the better teams. hhs has 6 seniors i believe. they have about 10 deep on the bench. they have 2 girls going on to play college basketball - 1 of them is d1. the problem, they only have about 2-3 girls that will actually mix it up. the rest shy from contact. theres not one nd girl that wasn't all over the floor at any chance. there were many 50/50 balls and rebounds that hhs girls could have had but didn't appear to want bad enough. nd played harder and so did ryle the night before. i didn't see the holmes game so i'm not sure what they did against them. but they were lucky to beat ryle. talent took over and ryle just not very good ball handling team. example. highlands down 8 at end of q1. voskuhl and smith go out early in q2 with foul trouble with about 6 min left in half. daley sits on the bench for 5 of those minutes without the two in the game. imo, nd would have no answer for daley with those two out of the game. result, still down 8 by halftime. they made no progress with those two out of the game. it was clear voskuhl was on fire early. why not move scheaffer over to put out the fire. can she not guard her? i hope she can if she has any shot at playing at X. puzzeling to me. their lil starting guard played about a quarter in the game. in the games i've seen, she has been one of their best players. imo, she actually settled the team down and kept them from getting blown out in the second quarter. She then started the second half played maybe a minute and never saw the floor again. again, puzzeling. she is a fighter and makes things happen. why doesn't highlands EVER put anyone to rebound on free throws????????? many other examples. just the glaring ones i saw the last two nights.
  20. agree. don't know any parent that would have a kid that is part of any program that would be this negative. if you don't like it, move. OR as someone else said, is this bgh's new identity. don't believe for one second slim has someone playing for cc.
  21. besides olivia voskuhl, the biggest difference i saw in this game was coaching. ND gets more out of their players.
  22. Not that's it's bad, but she did have to choose one sport. It may be a dream to go D1, but others like my daughter, also want to compete competitively (outside of school ball) in multiple sports. As much as I know you should consolidate your activities if you want to focus on D1, I HATE the fact that kids are forced to choose. Mine played 3 competitively until last year. She finally gave up one, but wants no part of giving up anything else. one was hard enough. She understands that it may provide opportunities for someone (that focuses on one sport) to pass her up in one of the sports. But that's okay with her because its more important to her to play as many as she can. Again, she'd love to go D1, but doesn't want to sacrifice everything and is fine with working her tail off and letting the cards fall where they may. She could not play both sports competitively if she had to travel all over the place. You just can't do it! Too much overlap. She often goes back and forth from one sport to the other in a weekend. we have great memories together, we travel and eat pb&j sandwiches too. we do everything everyone else does and we love it too. Did it get to be too much because of the travel? That's why IMO it's only for a select few. Sounds like your daughter could have made it in soccer as well. I know the Dossett girls are outstanding bball players and softball players. Why can't they continue to play both, knowing that they will most likely still get their education paid for, but it might not be D1 unless they drop a sport (which i heard they may be in the process of now). Great atheletes that will get a scholarship somewhere regardless if they choose to drop a sport or not. Will any of these girls that drop all the way to one sport look back and say "i should have stuck with soccer" or "I should have stuck with bball"? If they have passion for both, then they should do both.
