Ryle played very solid. Highlands hit the ball well in spots but committed about 8 to 10 errors that cost em a shot. Somewhere I read where defense is important in high school ball. It's early Bluebirds and it will get much better by years end. You will be playing with anyone by then.

I don't recall Ryle making an error. They had a couple base running mistakes. I wasn't counting the errors but there were a boatload by Highlands. Not sure how many runs were unearned but many were. Ryle looks good defensively. Crupper pitched and she throws hard. 2nd time thru the lineup Highlands started to time it pretty good.

It's WAY early but it seems like the region is wide open at this point. The Boone County schools along with NDA would still be towards the top but I am thinking there are 7 or 8 teams that could beat any of the top teams this year. I don't think that has really been the case the last several years.

 

Congrats to Ryle, they do what they always do and that is find a way to win a game.

The Birds did struggle in the field some but the bats did finally wake up a bit. Watching infield before the game was a premonition of the fielding to come. Painful..... Coach C made some position changes from the tournament and the girls are still learning. They will be fine once they get into the groove. It seemed like they made all the tough ones and the bunnies were the ones killing them. The official line was 7 errors for HHS and none for Ryle. Spencer pitched well enough to keep them in the game.

 

 

The bats did come alive althought there were too many strikeouts. Graybill put a couple new dents in the fence with a couple nice shots to left. 9 hits for the Birds compared to Ryle's 10. It seems the girls were a little too anxious at the plate and didn't see enough pitches. Crupper pitched well but wasn't over powering but her location was on.

 

Overall it wasn't terrible and some good opportunities for learning. Once they gain some confidence it could be a much better game down the road.

 

It was fun to watch Ryle during infield.... They really put on a show... I think it was a little intimidating to the Birds as well it should have been...

They hit it every bit as well as Ryle did.

When was the last time Ryle or Connor didn't win the region? Has to be going on 10 years....not saying it won't happen this year but it easily could not.

Ryle played solid. The pitcher had good control didnt walk a batter struck out 9, she went right after Highlands hitters after Ryle took control early jumping out I think 5-0 after 2 innings, she allowed a total of 9 hits and 5 runs in 7 Innings. No Errors in the field so pretty good D! They put the ball in play, I think they hit it pretty good they had at least 3 extra base hits (2B miller, olivero,stephens) I think I heard 10 total hits and 10 Runs. Definately showed why they are considered a top team in the Region.

 

Highlands did not. Allowing 10 Runs (2 Earned acording to the App) on 10 Hits and 3 walks and at least one hit batter. I had the count of 8 errors and could debate a 9th one so I would say struggled defensively is fair. The bats did come alive and Highlands had a couple nice rallies!

 

Overall Ryle showed why they are one of the teams to beat if you want to win the 9th Region. I have watched Highlands play Conner, Notre Dame and Ryle this week and my early season top 3 is 1. Notre Dame 2. Ryle 3. Conner

 

Highlands still has a bunch of work to do to sure up that D which I am confident the team and coaching staff will work hard at improving! Offensively they are not all .400 hitters but I think they will be fine if they can eliminate the simple errors and stop giving away outs.

Bottomline, when you are playing Ryle or Conner you can not make ONE error, let alone multiple errors, and expect to win the game. Both teams are fundamentally sound.
