Knox Central starts their third drive on their own 33 after a short kickoff return. Reed immediately runs it 9 yards. On 2nd down Danville's Juan Colunga (senior) stops it. Then Knox is flagged for illegal substitution to turn 3rd down into a 3rd & 6. In I-formation, Reed takes a pitch and is tackled three yards short of the first down marker. Knox elects to go on fourth down, going back to I-formation. Their strategy is try to make the Ads jump, the Ads don't, so Knox calls a timeout to consider their options. Danville still leads 20-14 in the 2Q

Ads run a playaction screen pass that gets to the 4 yard line. They opt to go for it instead of kicking. Meaux finds room and gets into the end zone untouched. TOUCHDOWN. A bad snap and timing was off ruins the extra point kick by Garcia. That could make a difference later with how this game is going. Danville leads again 20-14 with not much time burned off the 2Q

Sellers has a kickoff return to the Admirals 45 yard line. Tempers are flaring a bit early between both teams after plays. Cruver does a screen pass to Meaux and Meaux takes it to the Knox 25. The Ads get nowhere with a run by Meaux and a screen pass attempt on second down. On 3rd and 8, Meaux goes to the outside and is tackled at the 5 yard line. This game is quickly becoming a bit of a matchup between Meaux/Peters vs. Reed/Sizemore. Meaux is driven back on 1st and goal. On 2nd there is a bad snap and the Ads take a big loss that puts them all the way back on the 14 yard line. End of the First Quarter: Danville 14, Knox Central 14

On the third down, the Panthers do a screen pass that earns a first down. Flag flies and it is a facemask against Danville. That moves the ball inside of the ten yard line. QB scramble on 1st down goes nowhere. Reed gets inside the three yard line on a run on 2nd down. 3rd and goal sees Panthers go power-I and Reed goes up the middle for a TOUCHDOWN. This is case where the Panthers size worked in their favor. Extra point is good. Danville and Knox Central are tied again at 14 with 3:45 to play in the 1st Q

Knox Central gets the ball on their own 44 to start their next drive. Brayden Sizemore (senior) immediately makes a big run into the red zone but the Panthers are flagged and it comes back. Panthers are getting big gains going to the outside. Sizemore quickly busts another run on 2nd down to get to the Admiral 40. On the ensuing second down, the Panthers throw past the sticks to the 25 to get another first down in Admirals territory Sizemore gets an 8 yard gain on first down but the Panthers go back on the next play with a holding call, creating a 2nd and 15. A small pass gets half that distance for Knox Central. That creates a 3rd and 7 and the Panthers call a timeout Danville leads 14-7 as we have some time left in the 1st Q (someone should tell the radio guys to give a time when they head to commercial!)

Trinden Sellers (senior) takes the kickoff to the Admiral 25 after dropping it. Knox Central contains some early runs by Jayvian Meaux, not allowing him to break anything big for the first two plays. On a 3rd and 5 he breaks a big run to the end zone but two flags are thrown. The Admirals are flagged for holding, so penalties are hurting the Admirals like last week early. On 3rd & 15, quarterback Dillon Cruver (sophomore) hooks up with Mylan Peters downfield, who runs it to the house. That is Peters' second score of the game. TOUCHDOWN. Garcia adds the extra point. Danville now leads 14-7 with 8:20 to play in the 1st Q

Knox Central takes over on their own 30 after receiving the kick. Panthers first run goes nowhere but their second one by Kobe Reed (sophomore) goes 68 yards to the house. TOUCHDOWN. Admirals get flagged on the extra point attempt but the Panthers still attempt the kick and make it. Danville and Knox Central are tied at 7 with 10:49 left in the first quarter

Admirals receive to start the game and Knox Central pooch kicks it out of bounds. Admirals force them to kick again 5 yards further back. Mylan Peters (sophomore) proceeds to run it back to the house after that. TOUCHDOWN. Juan Garcia (junior) makes the extra point kick. Danville quickly strikes to lead 7-0

Big statement game for Beechwood IMO.

It would definitely make the regular season better with more competitive games. In a lot of cases those last 4 or so weeks of the season don't feature too much exciting football because of some of these lopsided districts.

Game 1 of the Kentucky Cooperage Bowl at Marion County High School on Saturday, August 29 will feature the Danville Admirals (1-0) against the Knox Central Panthers (1-0). Each team enjoyed convincing wins in week 1. Danville defeated Marion County in the Stuart Powell Ford/Mazda Pigskin Classic 49-7. Sophomore running back Jayvian Meaux scored four touchdowns and the Admirals did a good job neutralizing Marion County's rushing attack. The one thing for the Admirals to work on in game 2 will be reducing penalties as they had several holding calls and personal fouls that eroded some big plays last week. Knox Central thrashed Whitley County last week 42-2, led by their sophomore star Spencer Prichard, who scored three times, once on the ground, once through the air, and once on special teams. Forcing a few turnovers also helped the Panthers offense. The last time these teams played was two years ago as the Panthers came into Danville and shutout the Admirals 33-0.

As others have said, the biggest problem with the site right now is the ease of navigation. The old scoreboard was great because you could easily click on a team and it would immediately upload their schedule, roster, etc. That isn't being done at the moment. Sometimes less is more and the simplistic model of the old scoreboard was what was great about it. I feel like the new one has all these bells and whistles and if it ever works I can see the appeal but right now it's just a mess.

I thought this would be a much closer game. I thought wrong!

Good statement win for the Admirals to start the year. They seemed to lose focus in the second half because the game was in good hands. Meaux continues to be a great playmaker that the Admirals are leaning on. Cruver appears to have had some better touch on some of his throws as well, throwing for two scores. The Admirals defense was great in shutting down Marion's running attack. Next week the Ads head to Marion County to play in a bowl game there versus Knox Central. Marion will play Fairdale High School in the second game at that bowl.

Marion County's last play is a pass but they are tackled shy of the end zone. Final Score: Danville 49, Marion County 7

Marion has a few runs that net 11 and 14 yards each. They try a home run ball but it falls incomplete.

Senior Jutayvion Beasley breaks a long 61-yard run to the house and the Admirals put up another score. Another kick works for the Ads. Danville leads 49-7

Marion's offense is stuck in the mud and unable to move much, getting flagged for a delay of game for taking too long in the running clock situation to line up. On a 3rd and 20 they try a reverse but the Danville speed overwhelms it. On the punt that follows it rolls out of bounds, so the Ads will take over on their own 39 with 8:10 to go in the quarter.

There is an offsides call on the Admirals. Marion fumbles again on a run but they recover. That ends the third quarter. Third Quarter: Danville 42, Marion County 7

Marion takes the kickoff to their own 35.

Cruver fires the ball to Mylan Peters, advancing the ball into the redzone and then Cruver takes off on the next play, going about 9 yards into the end zone. Ads complete a two point conversion to inaugurate a running clock when Cruver connects to Brayden Ford. Danville leads 42-7 with 1:02 to go in the third quarter
