  1. I thought you were taking the side that it could be self defense...him claiming it was self defense it what I say "bull" to. I think the number of stab wounds and the locations (all over the body) more than go to prove it wasn't self defense. Dude got mad and went crazy on him, for whatever reason.
  2. Anyone else familiar with this study by David Platt? Basically tells all Christians if you haven't given up everything for God (possessions, family, money, etc.) then we haven't done what we are commanded to do. In turn, since almost none of us have gone to the lengths that he points out, then the Bible tells us we aren't with Christ and aren't doing what he has commanded. Gotta tell you, it's more than a little head scratching and uncomfortable and I'm not sure what to make of it, as is the same with most if not all in the class.
  3. All over the body? Trunk, back, buttocks, legs, neck? Sorry, but I call bull on that one.
  4. You know, it definitely had it's sad moments...especially the part about his daughter, I had no clue about that. BUT, if you think about it, at it's core it's the "American dream" story. And if you listen to him, he really talks about how he loves this country and how good it's been to him and the opportunities it offered him that he just wouldn't have gotten in Iran. I think one of the most interesting parts is when he was getting ready to fight Hogan and what several wrestlers and Verne Gagne told him to do to the Hulk.
  5. You know, the more I watch that video, the more I shake my head and question why Tensing tried to open the guys door and then reached for the seatbelt. That just seems to me to be poor poor police procedure, at least during the initial phase of a stop. Maybe as a last resort in certain circumstances, but that wasn't the case here. Possibly, had Tensing stepped away from the window, ordered DuBose to step out of the car and he refused and started it up...then maybe this whole thing goes down differently.
  6. Wow, looking at Kitna's one year and Palmer's averages...they were the same qb. Not a dimes worth of difference in their stats. Who would have thought that?
  7. I just find stories like this fascinating, and I have always been somewhat fascinated with large, abandoned buildings. The power plant located on Long Island in NY was built at a cost of $6 billion dollars between 1973-84. That's probably what, about $10 billon in todays dollars?:idunno: Anyway, because of anti-nuclear activists/protests and eventually 74% of the LI population not wanting the plant, in conjunction with a little "interference" from them Gov. Mario Cuomo, the plant went "active" in 1986 and never got past the 5% testing phase. It was shut down in 1989. Guys, it was never used! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoreham_Nuclear_Power_Plant And, on top of all that...guess who paid for the plant? That's right, the tax payers of Long Island paid the builders of the plant most of that $6 billon in the form of a tax on their electric bill in a deal that the NY state government made. The place still stand (minus the fuel rods and turbines) and is available for a movie location. lots of pictures on this link. Scouting Long Island?s Decommissioned Nuclear Power Plant | Scouting NY
  8. Like Randy, I am totally surprised they were even still around. I thought they folded shop several years ago.
  9. I posted this in a thread by itself, but "Beware of Mr. Baker" was really good, about the life of Cream drummer extraordinaire Ginger Baker. "The Sheik", about the life of WWF wrestler The Iron Sheik was pretty darn good too.
  10. There's another list out there that had L'burg (where I live) as the 3rd safest...this one had us 8th. Got to say, we have problems just like everybody else (drugs, domestic trouble, etc.) but as far as the city, there isn't one square foot of the city that you would have to worry about your 16 yo daughter if her car broke down in town.
  11. 3585 for me. All viewed out of love and respect.:thumb:
  12. You know, it's not like JC has won 5 of the last 7 state titles or anything...why in the world would any decent school be afraid to play them? They have a pretty good program, but they aren't some unbeatable juggernaut by any stretch. Surely Matney doesn't believe that...or maybe he does, I don't know, but I sure can't see any truth to it. Now, they are in an awkward location and I can see where some teams wouldn't want to travel that far to play them when they can get just as good competition much closer to home. If they are having problems getting good teams scheduled, it's the travel, not the JC program itself being so good and scaring people away.
  13. True I guess, however I was just comparing severity of the two winters regardless of how/why the circumstances. Gonna take a whopper of a winter I think to compare t last year.
  14. Actually I think last year was worse than 97-98. Not only did we get the big 18-20 inch snow, but we had a couple of other big snows and a couple of smaller 3-4 inch ones as well. From what I can remember, seems like to me 97-98 we had that big major snow and that was pretty much it.
  15. Large serving of cantaloupe, bowl of Cheerios with a little sugar and a mix of 1% milk, almond and coconut milk, and a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread.
  16. If I remember correctly and I saw something on a historical documentary on this a while back, there was a small segment of high ranking military officers who tried to perform am 11th hour "coup", take over the Japanese government and prevent the Emperor from surrendering. Had they been successful, their goal was to fight to the last man and never surrender. After the Japanese attacked China and the US saw their want to basically take over most of Asia, the US enacted embargos and basically put a strangle hold on much of their oil and steel supplies. They had to turn elsewhere to find a lot of natural recourses, being a country that's pretty poor in that area. At that time in the US, there was a huge isolationists movement both in the government and in the general population, and the Japanese government knew this. They were convinced that the US would not have the stomach for war and a surprise attack would both cripple our presence in the pacific, and the isolationists would immediately sway the government to ask the Japanese government to terms for peace. Now I'm going by memory here but what I am stating I think is pretty accurate. Also, the Chinese HATE the Japanese to this day. Read "The Rape of Nanking". If you don't know about that, Google it. It will turn your stomach and you will understand the hate.
  17. Yep, dude is certifiable all right. But a drummer beyond compare. When bringing up Bonham and Moon, 2 other drummers ranked top 2-3 drummers ever, Eric Clapton pretty much said they aren't even in the same league with Baker. That's pretty high praise, saying someone is better than even the best.
  18. Promotional opportunity and retirement.
  19. ...if you could just snap your fingers and that school would be your neighborhood school, what school would it be? Either private or public, cost is no factor. Would it be their future/current school? Something different?
  20. Oh no, these are problem employees who have always been problems and nothing was done about it so they became...I guess almost entitled to be bad would be a way to describe it. I think the opportunity for mentoring has passed. IF...and this is a big if...Division B CAN turn them around somewhat, chances are great that they would only be marginal employees at best and would really add no value and definitely would not come anywhere near replacing the 2 employees who have left. Right now Division B has the opportunity to actually interview a lot of different people and potentially bring in some great employees and make the division even stronger/better. And as far as making the "other team" look incompetent? Division B already does that in spades, they don't need to try and rehab their problem employees to do that. I get the whole "mentoring" thing, I really do, and that can work when the "problem" party wants to try and make it work. In this case I don't think that happens though.
