  1. This group of Villa seniors have had a nice run and some modest success: - 4 straight conference championships - no losses to D3 teams in 4 years - On pace to record their 4th double digit winning season with respectable schedules - Beat Conner three years ago, beat Dixie and Cooper then tied Conner and Boone Co. two years ago, Beat a very good NCC team last year, beat Brossart this year and a couple wins vs. ranked teams downstate over the four years - Many of the seniors have also overcame some major injuries over their career but played through it - they usually compete With Libby and Nemo finally graduating after the last 3 years, I hope they can put together one of these good games in Districts and make Regions The freshman class has the same type talent and numbers to make a similar run the next 3 years.
  2. ..Carlos Stanton from the Miami Marlins is wearing a protective mask on the from side of his helmet.
  3. TB Pitcher Alex Cobb getting hit in the head. I was at this game 10 rows behind the first base dugout and it sounded like someone dropped a watermelon from the 10th story, even more amplified in the Tropicana Dome. I have had 3 very good players and athletes in the 8 years of coaching fast pitch take a softball to the face - one broke her orbital bone around the bottom of her eye socket, one girl lost a few teeth (we saved them by putting them in milk), and one girl broke her nose and had a concussion. That does not include any of the head and facial injuries that never happened that I witnessed because the girl WAS WEARING A FACEMASK. All IFs should wear the facemask, there is no good reason not to...we have the technology available - use it. I've said it before - it's like a parent not vaccinating (polio, TB, etc.) their kids - why would you not protect them when the resources and technology are available? Just my humble opinion...
  4. LB - Volleyball is Socialist, Soccer is Communist....but you are catching on.
  5. LB - you have accepted our discussions - welcome to the club.
  6. 1. Terrible scheduling for Senior Night 2. You start your seniors and its not like that senior hurts you 3. Took my 5th grader girl to a very hard fought game. NDA short handed deserve to win this game. Outplayed HC. IMO. Bad call against Nda 40 on a made Nda throw Was her 5th and she was controlling the game Looked to me and I was very close to it that 12 of Nda had a clean steal at end of game down 2 I think. - surprised Wyatt didn't reschedule.
  7. St. Henry is obviously the better team. The game ended like most people expected. They should not change the way the play despite their opponent. The point is that when a game is in hand, in every sport, there are measures a coach can take to finish the game with some class. Forget all the other baloney - forget any other names - ultimately, there are many things that Coach Sturgeon could have chosen to do different during this game...the one that sticks out is to call off the full court, trapping in your face, no holds bar press when the 35 point running clock has started. At that point, you prove the other team struggles to get past half court? You can make layups? Play hard nosed, half court o and d and finish the game heads up for both team. If you have an axe to grind, take it to the parking lot and leave the players out of it.
  8. The FACTS are below. I saw the game and I've seen the HUDDLE film. The PRESS was on until the last 3 minutes of the game when players #11-15 came into the game at which time the defense became a soft full court man to man. The score was run up. It's High School - message sent loud and clear - whatever that was supposed to be - you can play hard in a half court defense once the game is no longer in question, say 35 point lead and the running clock begins which in this case was midway 3rd quarter. There was no reason to continue with a full court, in your face, deny the point guard press and pick up easy layups. As for the St. Henry coaching staff and administration, I do not know Coach Sturgeon very well, but I believe that Coach Buerger, Coach Smart, Mr. Graue and Mr. Otte would and DO have better judgment. In this case, I think Coach Sturgeon used poor judgment...hopefully this will not happen again.
  9. Rose, Rengering and an African American female that I do not know End of 1st quarter - 10 team fouls for one, 9 for another End of 1st half - 30 total fouls, both teams in double bonus basically entire 2nd quarter Score at half - 48-22 Final score - 79-34 Outcome in 2nd quarter and definitely by half was never in doubt. Villa had 5 FGs entire game and made 24 FTs. St. Henry did press hard the entire 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter was more a lazy full court man to man. Paul rotate his starters and a second group of 5 religiously through first 3 quarters. Starters began fourth quarter, then came next 5, the last group of 5 (guessing JV) finished the last 3-4 minutes. But to be honest, and for whatever reason, statement or not, and most St. Henry parents were also in agreement and observing the fact that St. Henry DID pour it on.
  10. Does KHSAA require coaches - regardless of the sport - to be 21 years of age?
  11. My girls that pitch and play infield will wear masks. If a college coach does not like it, then tough...UK's pitcher seem to do just fine with one. Not wearing a facemask is like not vaccinating the kids from polio, TB, etc...why not use the technology that is available to make sports safer, more fun and your future quality of life better?
  12. We have quite a few CC softball players in the NKY Bandits organization
  13. Rennekamp is a good athlete and could be the defensive stopper
  14. I'll say it - scholarship tournaments, college showcases, etc. are the new trend for athletes to get noticed (for the majority and most part) for the money. It also provides a much easier way for the college coaches to see more prospects than going to one HS game. We all know that but the bottom line is - choose one - club sport or high school team sport. Any other way causes adversity and the coach is put into a lose, lose situation, especially if you have numbers in your program to cover those missing. At that point it becomes next player in. It is very unfair to the coaches and other players - IMO. Do what is best for you as an athlete, for the family, for your college chances - we will respect the decsion but in the end the coach is put between an rock and a hard place. I am not a proponent of picking one sport and playing it year round - regardless of the sport - for several major reasons, including growth plate development, repetitive motion injuries, mental/physical burnout, etc. I could say more but I agree with LB and RCC on this one. Either way - it stinks.
  15. Wanna bet - She did and everyone including Jeff Morgan knew she was leaving
  16. 1. Stan Steidel started the All "A" concept and it spread, but its true origin is in the 9th region. 2. The overall driver in a lot of this is $$$, that's why Touchstone Energy sponsors it. Follow the money trail... 3. Think about this - there are classifications in almost every established sport (not sure about the new ones - Archery, Bass Fishing, Bowling, etc.)but one - Basketball (which does have an All "A" - see #1 and #2) but you know darn well the Sweet Sixteen will never change its playoff format to classification for the obvious reason. 4. You talk about sandbagging and trophy hunters, that is why they have classes in the Men's slow pitch softball tournaments - you choose which level to play. In the All "A", it may not be a sanctioned KHSAA tournament, but it is supported by them. So, win or lose, since we have an opportunity to play in a tournament environment, I am going to play in it so our players get the game experience in a more formal environment to get ready for Districts. 5. Wait and see if the Diocese of Covington Championship ever gets off the ground for the member high schools - most that are "A" schools.
  17. One thing the stats won't tell you is the intangibles - like just how good Olivia Voskuhl was in making the players around her better!!!
