Newport Central Catholic 77 Lloyd Memorial 45
Agreed. Although Lloyd had no one to match his size, strength and ability last night it was nice to see him get out and run up and down the court and be active. Glad to see he is back to feeling better after battling through the Cov Cath game sick and sitting out the Campbell County game. Hopefully, he gets back to scoring his 20+ points a game like he was earlier in the season. Anyone have his rebounding stats? I would like to know how many offensive rebounds and total rebounds he had last night.

Newport Central Catholic 77 Lloyd Memorial 45
During the next time out the three refs huddled in front of me and discussed what happened. The ref stated 'he missed the ball going into the basket' and awarded the player 2 free throws. The scoreboard still reflected 0 - 0 at that time of the first free throw. When the ref reported the foul to the scorers table, he never indicated the basket was good and therefore the points were never put up. Once the mistake was noticed after the missed free throw and put back, in my opinion, what should have happened was: the refs should have met, determined that the basket in fact should have counted, given NCC 2 points for that part. Since the free throw was missed, at that point it should have been a dead ball and based on the alternating possession the ball should have been inbounded by the team based with the aarow and the score NCC 2 Lloyd 0. You couldn't allow NCC who got the rebound and put back to keep those points since Lloyd (which I'm sure they weren't but could argue) didn't attempt to rebound since the ref said 2 shots. Just my thought on how it should have been handled. If the play was called correctly as an and one, NCC would have received the original basket (2 points), the put back (2 points) and I believe McDonald was fouled on the put back (don't know if the ref would have called it or not but it looked like he got fouled) with McDonald at the free throw line shooting one. So, NCC could have been up 5 - 0 on the trip down the court.

Covington Catholic v Newport Catholic Predictions
After watching NCC against Boone the other night, they don't look like the same team that played in the Lloyd tournament. I don't know if they are tired, beaten down or just had an 'off' game but their offense was pretty choppy at best and they didn't have the flow that they had earlier in the year. I like McDonald on the slip screen and pounding the ball inside to him more. I'd like to see Miller shoot the ball more on the offensive end. He's got a nice shot, but it doesn't seem as though NCC looks to get him involved. I think NCC would be better served with Highchew at the point and Beuter (sp?) at the two guard. I like how Highchew attacks. He's a high risk / high reward type of guard but I think he gives the Breds an extra threat going to the basket plus it allows Beuter to get some spot up jump shots beyond the arc. If McDonald gets back to being a main scoring threat for NCC (scoring in the 20's again) then I like their chances. If NCC doesn't get him involved like he was earlier in the year then I think the Colonels win. I'm thinking NCC won't go back to what was successful for them earlier in the season..... Cov Cath 69, NCC 60.

Newport Central Catholic 52 Boone County 49
I spoke with a Boone Admin that was in attendance last night and I asked him: Where is the band? Where are the cheerleaders? Students? He had no idea. Perhaps they all forgot there was a game? I think that played into the game as well. It was an uninspiring game/atmosphere in my opinion, at least the first three quarters anyway. Got to give some credit to the Miller kid for NCC who played some very solid defense on McQueary. I think the only time he scored was when Miller was out of the game or switched on a pick. I didn't think NCC got the ball into McDonald enough last night. There were times when he was open and they didn't pass it in and then there were times where they rotated the ball back to the other side before he got a chance to post up. I was on the NCC side (behind NCC bench) and didn't hear the fan, however, if they were directing the comments towards the refs, I could see where they could be upset. Again, not a lot of consistency with the calls, on both sides!

NewCath/Trinity pre-game
Agreed. If we are doing predictions, I'll say T - 82, NCC 66

Top NKY freshman players
The thread says top freshman players..... but the title says top freshman guards. If we are including all Freshman in this thread, if there is a better Freshman in NKY than Drew McDonald from NCC I'd like to see him. I haven't seen a ton of HS games this year, however, I've caught a few of NCC games and he is legit. He has some great low post moves and isn't afraid to bang. I believe, going into the Newport game the other night (when he didn't play a lot because of the score) he was averaging around 19 - 20 points a game and grabbing his share of rebounds.

NewCath/Trinity pre-game
It should be interesting to see how the freshman McDonald does tonight. He's been a stud all year in leading the Breds and has done well against the HC and Brossart big men. I'm thinking he'll go 20 (pts.) and 8 (rebs) tonight. He's got some sweet post moves and uses both hands extremely well for such a young player. I would like to see Miller be a little more aggressive on the offensive end. He's got a nice outside shot and can take the ball to the basket. I would like to see him be freed up a little bit and use his athleticism. If NCC (Highchew) can handle the pressure, it should be an interesting game.

Volleyball: 2013 Notre Dame Outside Hitter Taylor Angel Commits....
Very funny Clyde. In speaking with her, she did have offers from 'bigger' schools/conferences and even 'more' local schools but like nkyvbfan stated it's about the right fit for the athlete and student. She loved the fact the university is located in the city, loved the coaches, the players, the dorms and the Horizon League conference (for the most part a bus conference so her family and friends could continue to see her home and away matches). She also said the coaches made her feel like she could a bigger fish in a smaller pond as opposed to being just another fish if she opted to go to one of those 'bigger' schools. Cleveland State does have a very good volleyball program that finished 2nd in the Horizon League (21-7) and lost in the Conference Tournament finals (http://www.csuvikings.com).

Volleyball: 2013 Notre Dame Outside Hitter Taylor Angel Commits....
2013 Outisde Hitter for Notre Dame Academy Taylor Angel accepted a full scholarship to play volleyball at Cleveland State University of the Horizon League over the weekend. After speaking with the family last night, Taylor said she wanted to go to CSU because she really liked the coach, the fact that he has been there for 13 years and wasn't going to leave, the girls were great to her on her two visits, they always have a very good team, the dorms were awesome and that she liked the city atmosphere. Congratulations Taylor on a wonderful accomplishment and Good Luck with the Vikings!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Kentucky Middle School Football Association - 2011 State Playoff Brackets Posted
Union Raiders 8th grade beat Olmstead last evening 50 - 12 at Ryle. I think that was the final.... The Raiders had a big night running the ball behind Lex McGregor, Mitchell Bateman, Nick Townsend and Vincent Jarvis. They move on to play in Lexington this Saturday afternoon.

9th Region Volleyball @ Ryle
Well, when the scores were 15 -13 (3rd) and 16 (4th) all in the third and fourth sets, I would consider that closer than the scores indicated. Just my thought. We'll see what happens if they meet up in State.

Any detailed information about this game? Scoring plays? I heard it was a turnover filled night for the Raiders.

9th Region Volleyball @ Ryle
The most recent match between the two schools, the scores were 24-26, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19 and sets three and four were closer than the score indicated and those scores were still close. Honestly, I believe Assumption, Sacred Heart and NDA are the top three teams in the State this year and Sacred Heart is already out losing 22, 22 to Assumption in the District Final. NDA, in my opinion, will be fine against Assumption in the State Semi Final if it plays out that way. You have to beat the best to be the best and based on history (and State and National polls) Assumption is the best. We'll see what happens. Let's just hope it does.

Kentucky Middle School Football Association - 2011 State Playoff Brackets Posted
http://media.digitalsports.com/80095/files/2011/09/KY-State-2011-Playoffs-Brackets-Update-1.pdf I found this on the internet..... However, there are no teams listed. I want to say I heard the Union Raiders were in Region 3, but I can't confirm. I believe the 7th grade Union Raiders beat CHCA (Cincy Hills Christian Academy) over the weekend 28-6. I think they are like 8-1 or something like that this year are are an offensive powerhouse.

Boys State Golf Tournament Tee Times
Anyone able to provide udpates on how things are going today? http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/player/static/player3016.html It doesn't look like this gets updated very quickly or they are already behind. I know the times are central time, but I'm looking and some of the boys have tee times over an hour old and no update. I didn't know if anyone had more updated information on how it is going down there today.
