2013 Outisde Hitter for Notre Dame Academy Taylor Angel accepted a full scholarship to play volleyball at Cleveland State University of the Horizon League over the weekend.

 

After speaking with the family last night, Taylor said she wanted to go to CSU because she really liked the coach, the fact that he has been there for 13 years and wasn't going to leave, the girls were great to her on her two visits, they always have a very good team, the dorms were awesome and that she liked the city atmosphere.

 

Congratulations Taylor on a wonderful accomplishment and Good Luck with the Vikings!!!

Always good to see a local get a free ride in college. I'm sure her parents are very proud.

Awesome for her. Cleveland is a fun city.

Interesting choice. She was on the list of "The 79 best Sophomores in the country starting Varsity" (or something like that) last year, USA HP teams in year's past, and I seem to remember an Enquirer article on how she was getting letters and looks from Michigan and other larger D1 schools. It would be fair to say that Cle St. isn't in the same league volleyball wise as Big Ten schools, so I wonder if she stopped getting looks from larger D1 schools for some reason?

Congrats to Miss Angel! It is not always about the Big Ten, ACC, etc. It's really not even about D1. It's about being the right fit for the athlete, and most importantly the right fit for the student!!

Ha! Most of you don't realize how good she is. She is a fantastic player. I've seen her play HS and Club. Do you know how good you have to be to make the HP teams she's played on? Always figured she would be a big time D1 prospect. I'm just a little surprised. Quite a catch for Cle St.

In speaking with her, she did have offers from 'bigger' schools/conferences and even 'more' local schools but like nkyvbfan stated it's about the right fit for the athlete and student.

 

She loved the fact the university is located in the city, loved the coaches, the players, the dorms and the Horizon League conference (for the most part a bus conference so her family and friends could continue to see her home and away matches).

 

She also said the coaches made her feel like she could a bigger fish in a smaller pond as opposed to being just another fish if she opted to go to one of those 'bigger' schools.

 

Cleveland State does have a very good volleyball program that finished 2nd in the Horizon League (21-7) and lost in the Conference Tournament finals (http://www.csuvikings.com).

All that matters is that she found a school and a coach that she likes. Good luck at Cleveland State, you have worked hard for this opportunity.

She is a stud on the court which enables her to make choices. Good for her!

Not everyone can afford to travel to Chicago weekly.
