Mayfield 34 Metcalfe Co. 0
snakesnot_2000 replied to wildcatjack's topic in KY Football (High School)
Mayfield dominated this game. Our line manhandled theirs. The backs ran hard, the defense swarmed to the ball. Metcalfe had a hardnosed bunch but was simply outmanned. Mayfield is really clicking right now. -
Blake Rust has been very solid for Mayfield

Metcalfe Co @ Mayfield Predictions
snakesnot_2000 replied to wildcatjack's topic in KY Football (High School)
Mayfield's running backs are better than the 03 bunch and the receivers are better. Brown will return. Mayfield will be by far the best team Metcalfe has faced. Mayfield's defense has jelled, it seems on paper that Metcalfe has a very nice defense but they will be tested to contain all of Mayfield's weapons, I don't think they have the team to do it. -
Mayfields line just basically wore Critt out. The offense moved the ball all night on them. Guess could have made some catch's early that might have made somewhat of a differnce. I thought Mayfield overlooked Critt last year and I believe Mayfield is better than they were last season. Critt did all they could do and had a nice season but Mayfield was a better team than them, by far.

Metcalfe Co @ Mayfield Predictions

I say Mayfield wins by 2 to 5 tds. Metcalfe has done a good job this season but has played a very soft schedule. If Metcalfe can't pass the ball it will get very ugly for them. -

Unexpected State Champions from the Past?

93 Mayfield team was very unexpected for me. We had some young good players but Danville getting upset by Prestonsburg really helped. -

Crittenden County at Mayfield predictions

Mayfield by 2 or 3 td's. If Critt lays down, it could be worse. -
Mayfield 37 Hancock Co. 10
snakesnot_2000 replied to wildcatjack's topic in KY Football (High School)
This game was could have been much worse, 3 td's called back and Hancock scored on 2nd team defense on the last play. Hancock was hardnosed on defense but couldn't contain the big play. Their offense never moved the ball. Mayfield had some trouble out the gate but finally put it together. -
over the many years that i have followed high school football in this state, i will have to say that the AP poll general gets the teams some what right in the top 4 in each class, not always in the right order i might add. after the top 4 teams 99% of the time the other teams have no chance of winning the state title. all rankings after the top 5 are just window dressing. the courier journal's lit. ranking are a complete joke and should be mothballed. i like bluegrasspreps ranking about the best and i think they probably do a better job of anybody. i would also like to see a ranking by BGP of all the class's as one. as for westsiders post, i thought it was very good and had a lot of merit to it.

and another thing, how have we gone from the best mayfield team to whether or not murray got cheated?
-
i have always thought who would want to win a state championship that way. i guess murray would. who out played who that day?
-
westsider, theres was a fluke and ours would have been. it took that kind of play to beat mayfield that year. also in my opinion bright was the best player on that field. it's a shame he didn't play college ball but thats another story.
-
no doubt in my mind mayfield was the better team in 95. 93, i think the 2 clubs were about even. i feel like the 93 title was a gift but i'll take it. in my mind the 93 team was one of mayfield's weakest teams but they won, what can you say. it's like you said westsider great teams find a way to win and mayfield beat harrodsburgh in 95 also. the hoptown game was a fluke for them, if you were there you would know what i mean. come on, 4th and 10 on your own 40 with 36 seconds to go and the ball goes though brights hands. only thing the 95 team lacked was a great qb
-
about the 98 team. in my opinion mayfield didn't adjust to middlesbore defensive scheme which was to stunt and put 10 in the box. in the 2nd half we did. i give middlesboroall the credit they had a good game plan and it worked. i donot believe they were 3 td's better than us. all beside the point now. i did see the "70" team play and they were good, i just don't think quite as good as the 77 team. the 95 team was very good also and could have been better if cefus tyler had stayed on the team. he would have made the linebacking corp unbelieveable. he was awesome as a soph. he shut down ft knox and their big running back who played at uk. this 2002 team will have to be evaluated at the end of the season.

1978 was the best because of their talent and depth

i think they can throw the balll, cook looked very good last week except the recievers dropped the ball. i think a better question can thother teams handle our line.
