  1. Congrats to VMA. Immaculate Heart of Mary, grades k-8, just won Blue Ribbon for the second time.
  2. Funny guy. I got more joy watching my mom laugh uncontrollably at Tom Conway.
  3. Simple question that needs just a yes or no answer... Are you genuinely happy for Zeke and this opportunity, and want him to succeed?
  4. Herd that when the bulls left the park, their moms said, “Bison”.
  5. The timing is tough because when they return, there are very few days remaining to make up the work, in addition to missed content learned for final exams. My issue is why can’t these competitions happen in the summer, like AAU b-ball.
  6. Competitive cheer. Not school related. Students missing a week or more of school to attend.
  7. So over the past week there has been lots of competitive cheer activity going on that takes students out of the classroom for a week or more. Why does this not happen at the end of May or June?
  8. It is my understanding that if a parent or guardian is employed by Boone County Schools, then their child can go to any Boone County School. I don’t know all the details of the rule, but I know it’s a thing.
  9. I think that any NKY Catholic school would welcome him, regardless of religion.
  10. Do you mean that there are a lot of non Boone students at Cooper?
  11. He spent 9 days in the hospital? Nobody spends 9 days in the hospital anymore. The perp needs some serious consequences.
  12. Our classroom calculators today will create a table of ordered pairs, solve an equation, and so much more. Just teaching the students how to use these calculator features is almost a course itself.
  13. And where I work, the librarian is also responsible for several rows of student computers
  14. School librarians today may as well be computer teachers, as well.
  15. Agree to a point. But people forget that Algebra teaches logical thinking and problem solving skills—even if you never ever use Algebra again for the rest of your life.
  16. Had to give my juniors a math writing assignment for their school writing portfolio. Since we were learning about exponents at the time, I gave them 2 different investment scenarios that they had to write about. I found out quickly that my students had no idea what these terms meant: interest, compounding, quarterly, and that the number of years means you don’t get the money until the end.
  17. Happy Birthday to a brilliant dude who enlightens us with his posts. Have a great day, #Getslow .
  18. Great stuff!! Forgot about the impact of Title 9. The mainstreaming has been a huge difference—and the growth of special education teachers and departments. Agree on technology. I hate, Hate, HATE the cell phones and the entitlement that comes with it. And agree 100% on calculators. Students are taught how to find a common denominator on the calculator. Few can do it with pencil and paper.
  19. What about high school drop out rate? Do you recall programs in place to in the schools to minimize that?
  20. I don't think that you will find an employed welder, electrician, or plumber.
  21. As a math teacher, I don’t think I would like block. For most students, max math retention happens when students learn a new concept, practice it, and sleep on it. Block scheduling would require students to learn more math concepts in a day, and I don’t think the math retention would be as strong.
  22. What about scheduling? Thoughts on Block scheduling? What about year round school?
