  1. 2000: 12-1 record. Guessing one of the best teams you had. Very competitive district and compare the non-district to the one you're playing this year. You had a tried and true coach and now your going with less experienced coach. Don't know him so no evaluation by me should be made. Aug 18, 00 Mercer County at Lincoln County 34 - 0 (W) no Death Valley Bowl ...AA Aug 25, 00 George Rogers Clark away 35 - 6 (W) no....AAAA ended 5-6 Sep 1 00 Harrodsburg home 54 - 12 (W) no ...1A Sep 8, 00 Open Sep 15, 00 Montgomery County away 51 - 0 (W) no (District Game) ...ended 5-6 Sep 22, 00 Franklin County home 43 - 7 (W) no (District Game) ... ended 7-4 Sep 29, 00 Western Hills away 36 - 21 (W) no (District Game) ...ended 7-5 Oct 6, 00 Grant County home 48 - 12 (W) no (District Game) ...ended 3-7 Oct 13, 00 Anderson County away 61 - 6 (W) no (District Game) ...ended 3-8 Oct 20, 00 Bourbon County home 24 - 7 (W) no (District Game) ...ended 7-4(Dudley Hilton coached) Oct 27, 00 Prestonsburg away 51 - 6 (W) no ...AA Nov 3, 00 Dixie Heights at Harrison 35 - 21 (W) no Class AAA Tournament ...Dixie ended 5-6 Nov 10, 00 Holmes home 42 - 28 (W) no Class AAA Tournament ...ended 9-3. Holmes' non-district schedule was very light. Nov 17, 00 Highlands home 7 - 45 (L) no Class AAA Tournament ...somebody's got to play them Willing to bet this was one of your toughest teams? George Rogers Clark was the only team you played up for and they were mediocre. All other non-districts were lower class. Let's look at 01 under Ray Graham. Aug 18, 01 Belfry at Pikeville 12 - 14 (L) no Pike County Bowl ...AA AND they still beat you even one of you're better teams. Aug 24, 01 Open Aug 31, 01 Cawood home 48 - 0 (W) no ...AAA ended 3-8 Sep 7, 01 Breathitt County home 28 - 6 (W) no ...AA ended 7-4 Sep 14, 01 Montgomery County home 23 - 7 (W) no ...district game...ended 5-6 Sep 21, 01 Franklin County away 28 - 14 (W) no ...district game...ended 3-7 Sep 28, 01 Western Hills home 49 - 6 (W) no ...district game ended 2-8 Oct 5, 01 Lexington Catholic away 1 - 0 (W) no (forfeit) ...is what it is Oct 12, 01 Anderson County home 21 - 6 (W) no district game...ended 2-8 Oct 19, 01 Bourbon County away 53 - 0 (W) no ...district game...ended 5-6 Oct 26, 01 East Jessamine away 22 - 18 (W) no ...AAA ended 4-7 Nov 2, 01 Covington Catholic at Harrison Co. 22 - 44 (L) no ...somebody has to play them. Please rest assured that this is in NO WAY a slam on Ray Graham. Just showing that two of his best teams...and they did beat some quality teams and were competitive with some GREAT programs in these two years; the point being though, he was smart enough to schedule better in the non-district games. Obviously; the district itself was NOT CovCAth and Highlands quality.
  2. Aug 18, 12 Sheldon Clark home 13 - 28 (L) Click Thorobred Bowl Aug 24, 12 Belfry at Belfry/Pikeville 14 - 46 (L) Click Pike County Bowl Aug 31, 12 Scott County away 6 - 61 (L) Click Sep 7, 12 Mason County away 22 - 37 (L) Click Sep 14, 12 Bourbon County home 8 - 51 (L) Click Sep 28, 12 Highlands home 10 - 69 (L) Click Oct 5, 12 Holmes home 7:30 PM Oct 13, 12 Covington Catholic away 1:00 PM Oct 19, 12 Pendleton County away 7:00 PM Oct 26, 12 Woodford County home 7:30 PM I look at this schedule and most of the 'other 8' are pretty tough too. Sheldon Clark, 3A should be a win or competitive and it was. Belfry's only loss to a 5 or 6A Henry Clay and tougher than heck every year. Scott County; 6a and state semi-finalist &/of finalist; should not be on the schedule. Bourbon County; should be competitive but everyone knew they were tough under Poynter and going to be loaded. Should be on schedule just caught them on an upswing when you're on a down-turn. Mason County; solid year in and year out with very good coach. I like seeing them on your schedule and will be a battle most years. Highlands & CovCath; somebody's got to play them. Holmes; they've got some flyers and when they're disciplined; they are tough. Pendleton should be a W year in and year out. Look at their schedule compared to yours. Even Woodford is a 5A. With the district you've got; get out of this one. Find your local rivalry or NKY/Lexington lower level. I clicked on Warren East's schedule. They're listed 2nd in 4A on KHSAA site. No where near the schedule you guys are trying to play. Going back to see who Ray scheduled. Be back soon. Players...DON'T QUIT!!! It's worse than any drug you can take. Each time you quit it gets easier.
  3. Is no one else really surprised by this win by Owensboro. I'm not a Joe Prince fan though do respect. I think this is a HUGE win for him and his program after battling grief all off-season.
  4. The thread is that the kid is not playing; not that he's changing positions. Later the comment is added that he is not hurt. So is he suspended? Did he leave the team? What's up with this? Or is Guru hearing wrong?

  7. Ed Smart is one of THE BEST COACHES in this state, at least. Don't want to jinx his team nor him; just time for the state of KY to take a good look at how well his teams are prepared, conditioned, educated and ready, not only for the next game; for life. St. X coach, Glaser, is retiring after this season. You want a man of God that lives exclusively by God's word? Do your homework on Ed Smart.
  8. So this isn'tthe Gallatin County nor Trimble County upgrade prototype referenced in another thread?
  9. and if my kids are better than yours; the spread is dead. It ALWAYS comes down to the people playing. That's why our game is GREAT.
  10. Prefer to cover the C myself as the snap is even more dangerous and important in the spread and everything starts there. Still a GREAT defense vs. spread stuff. DT/DE/5 techs must be able to contain the QB and run game so maybe a little more athletic personnel against the spread than against downhill run teams. cover 3: OLBs cover up #2 Receivers forcing long throws to #1 receivers even when screening. Cover 2: You have an extra defender anywhere you want (like in the box as a spy)if you line your Safeties up at 7-8 yds on #2 receivers. Cover 4: You have even more flexibility with the extra defender. Blitz him even, Snagglepuss. Man free: Same as cover 3 just man it instead of zone it. Man: Your extra blitzer can come from anywhere...Now THAT'S FUN!!!
  11. GREAT defense. Tough to teach correctly. Need stud/intense/tough/coach-able/non-trap-able two techniques and extremely athletic OLBs. Allows ILBs to be runners and hitters instead of pluggers and fitters. Ask Beamer/Foster at V-tech. IMO
  12. KHSAA has Glasgow Football open. When and why did this take place? Surprising that it's this late.
  13. KHSAA "jobs open" has Dunbar looking for Assistant Football coaches and to contact the AD or Derrick Thomas. Posted last Friday. Is Coach Thomas back at the helm?
  14. IN the past few weeks I've tallied about every playoff since I was born or since this state has kept records under the KHSAA(darn, that's about one in the same!!!) My point(s) is(are): that there is no perfect system{that's point #1}. There seem to be blowouts in every, or at least most, playoff systems{that's point #2}. I prefer ONLY ONE STATE CHAMPION like basketball(OMG I HATE admitting that){point #3}. The current 6 class system, while too many(IMHO), gives fantastic programs(Bowling Green/Belfry/Beechwood/Mayfield/Russell & others; Central recently, Hazard recently, Scott Co & Boone Co. while not consistently on top, are usually at least on that 2nd level for more examples), and those schools with that one fantastic team every once in a while, (Owen County this year/Covington Holy Cross this year/Anderson since Peach has been there/Glasgow has been there every once in a while/F-S was there before when Joker was in High School) a chance to get state-wide recognition and every once in a while a chance to win it all. They would not get that recognition and did not get that recognition in the earlier 3 class and 4 class systems.{point #4} I would still like to see this system of using school size to deteremine a 'class sized' champion continue but then pool those 6 winners into an ULTIMATE CHAMPION with the two best programs/teams/ schools seeded.{point #5} {Point #6} I do think that the KHSAA, while over legislating at times, if not often; is a pretty darned good administrative body and takes data into consideration before making decisions. The evidence has been stated in an earlier post. They may not always get it right, but they study it before trying it and change it if it's deemed to be incorrect.
  15. Decided to look at the NCAA D-III first two rounds of playoff games; 24 games in two weeks, 9 blowouts(38%); 4 competitive(17%); 11 close(45%) Week 4 in KY: 12 games, 6 blowouts(50%); 2 competitive(17%); 4 close(33%) Did anyone predict blowouts in the BG/JH game?; Anderson/Southwestern?; Holy Cross/Somerset?; Glasgow/Murray?: I didn't.
  16. After looking at some data(see earlier posts) thought I'd throw this out. 1)As long as there are Public/Private enrollment differences and 'advantages',at least perceived, to be taken at places like Highlands and Beechwood, parity is impossible in KY. 2)The current 6 class system, while letting very weak teams into the playoffs, has also seemingly isolated Trinity & Highlands so that their impact is felt by less teams and opens the door for more teams to enjoy 'success' than ever before. 3)Instead of changing the class system, let's change the playoff system. We've opened the playoffs up, much like basketball, letting near everyone in the year end tourney. After the state CLASS championships, open up a 6 team Championship bracket with the two "super-powers", usually Trinity/StX & Highlands lately, getting the byes on the upper and lower ends. We will get an eventual single state champion just like basketball. 4)Teams can claim their 'class size' championship and each year, one of the lower bracket schools gets a shot at the big dogs much like the basketball teams that revel in their Sweet Sixteen appearances without ever winning a state championship. 4)Rip me if you want but the title of this thread is to the KHSAA. I hate to admit it but after looking at data all yesterday morning, I think they're doing everything they can to get it right. -They've changed classes from 3A to 4A to 6A. -They've experimented on the championship game times. -They've changed the location of the championships. -They monitor how they assign each school to each class. -They've let teams play up and try not to let teams play down(the Mercer championship should have an asterisk). -They poll principals, superintendents, ADs, coaches, designated reps and fans for big decisions. -They take travel into account before making decisions. -They change their minds when they find that they were wrong. -Personally, they've always returned my calls, my emails and addressed EVERY concern I've brought before them ESPECIALLY PERTAINING TO KIDS & A KID. So to answer the topic of this forum; "KHSAA Where are you? The KHSAA is watching, is listening and they see & hear us.
  17. Voice of Reason, here's your semi-final scores since 1998. 42 blowouts(37%) over 24 points/3 scores; 24 competitive(21%)24-17 points/within 3 scores; 49 close games(43%)16-2 point games/within 2 scores. So 64% of games were 'competitive' on this scale and 43% were 'close games' on this scale. If I had to do it all again...AND I'M NOT GOING TO(lol)...I'd list close games as within one score and competitives between two and three scores. The last stat that makes me curious is how many of all of these blowout games involved Trinity and Highlands. I point them out because it seems to me that the Six Class System has washed them out as the dominant teams that are ruining parity in KY High School Football. We could probably add St.X, Beechwood, New Cath, Mayfield, Danville and some other traditional powerhouses but I'll leave that for another day. We could probably use a similar scale to compare Publics and Privates. I'll leave that issue for someone else to play with.
  18. Did go back to KHSAA and did all championship games listed since 1959. 46 blowouts(23%); 39 competitive(20%); 114 close games(57%) 4A started in 1975 if that matters to anyone. Didn't count the forfeit game in 3A forget what year but near 1960. Since 6 delineations started; Highlands won all four 5A state championships and Trinity won 3 of 4 6A state championships.
