I like Mama Bear's argument and enthusiasm. I think last year's winner, even with a lot back, can still be passed in preseason predictions by a team that has made off-season progress. Sticking with the order of HC -1, LC -2, Whitley - 3, Clay -4 (Perry and North could be 4, 5 or 6, and Clay could be 3 if I've over-estimated Whitley). There's my two cents.

I am close to agreeing on this one. Will be disappointed if they do not at least make the regional finals.

Is Hazard better than last year or LCA not as good? Other than hearing Pineville possibly being this year's Allen Central, wouldn't most of region 4 appear to be weaker on paper?

Did Harlan even have a JV in it? I had heard they had better younger players coming up but didn't see a team.

Alright, I don't know anything about Clay, was just going on Hoover back and healthy? I'd rather go with North Laurel but was afraid to (since I don't know what I'm talking about). How about HC, Letcher, Whitley and North/Clay tied for 4th? I know I'm disregarding Perry Central and their new regime. I have to live over here, but I'm still a Harlan Countian inside.

My point is not with age or class, and I know nothing of the teams or games you guys are discussing. I doubt that anyone tries to break a rule and even if so, it's summer ball. My slight aggravation is when players drop down once the varsity loses or show up for the tourney after not playing in the pool. I am sure it is 'legal' if they are on the roster, but it feels like an old mens' softball tournament where the team you meet in the finals on Sunday is nothing like the team of the same name you beat in the first round on Friday or Saturday, after they have picked up several players from teams that lost and others that were unavailable early.

I'll drop Whitley to 4th then but no way HC is not the favorite. HC, Letcher, Clay, Whitley.

Agree that the seeds could shake out in a number of patterns, but I would propose HC, Whitley, Letcher, and Clay in that order.

Happens though. Not sure about fairness, but I have seen many teams play older guys on the JV team, especially after the varsity is bounced or not entered.

Don't get much info since changing sides of the mountain, but hoping for great seasons for both Harlan and Harlan County. Anyone have news or insight?

I thought the AAU tourney went well, though I have to admit I like the school teams better as opposed to the "All-Star" teams where basically the team that recruits the best for that weekend wins. A group of players sticking together and working throughout the offseason for their March dream surely can't be just a fad. Also, while I understand the Sunday/holiday complaint, there are worse things for a father and son to share than a day of basketball.

Expected this one to take off fast. There is a lot of enthusiasm in HC for Larkey & Co. I am predicting 8-2 or 9-1 with the depth of a playoff run depending on the development of their new quarterback, likely to be junior Jordy Brewer.

Curious as to any QBs that looked good at yesterday's camp. I know Coach Buchanan does a good job, and he has a serious prospect at Mason Co. this year. Anyone?

Chappell took the OC job at Middlesboro under Randy Frazier, the new HC that went to M'boro after being an assistant at Bell.

Central KY newspaper reports that Cobb, formerly of Somerset, left Knott Co. after a couple of months for Campbellsville. Bold move. Wish him well, but also feel for Knott, now without a coach again only 6 weeks before practice.

Just confirmed from a friend at the school that Chuck Mitchell, after 8 years or so on the job, is no longer the girls coach at Harlan. Apparently he met with the team this past Friday.

In reading the posts, does this sound like a temporary hire during the transition in hopes of someone else that is planning to be available next season?
