  1. I think Taylor does a really good job (probably best overall evaluator of talent in the state) but I'd take Tavin Lovan and Jaylen Sebree over Young and Sloan. Day Day is Taylor's guy though so I can understand him ranking him #1 in that class. I'd personally go with the following top 4 and I've seen those kids play multiple times on the summer circuit: Tavin Lovan Jaylen Sebree Day Day Sloan Trace Young
  2. What if Covcath had to beat a Holmes team WITH Greg Rice in the finals just to get to the state tournament? Is your scenario even a "what if?"
  3. The Goodin's are really close to Coach Gatewood and they have a good situation where they are...I'd be extremely surprised if he were to leave TC.
  4. Big time. He was thought to be a heavy St John's lean because of the relationship with Slice. (Dad and Slice played together, I believe)
  5. JJ had a better outside shot and had a little more bounce but wasn't as versatile with the ball as Ric. JJ could beat you off the dribble and get to the rack but didn't have the pull up and mid range game that Ric had.
  6. Campbell's only competition was Schulte and McDonald from Newcath and his senior year those two held him to two of his lowest outputs of the year. I think one game he had maybe 6 points, 9 rebounds and another 8 pts, 6 blocks. When Pittman and R. Johnson were seniors, the region was loaded with quality, LEGIT "big men" and size. Just to name a few: 6'4 McDaniel/6'5 Collins/6'3 Luther/6'3 Foster- Newport 6'6 Hodges/6'7 Robinson- Conner 6'6 Thelen/6'4 Wellbrock- Covcath 6'6 Stansberry- Dixie 6'7 Stauffer- Ryle 6'6 Earls/6'5 Montgomery/6'5 McQueary/6'4 T Brown/6'3 Cotton- Boone Co (Want to say they had another 6'8 kid too...Crabtree?) 6'7 Geisler- Newcath 6'6 Cheatum- Lloyd 6'6 Grubbs-Highlands I believe Beechwood also had a 6'6-6'7 kid...literally every team in the region had atleast one big that could match up with Campbell. I don't think you can say that about Tony his senior year. I wouldn't consider kids like Hill/Chames/or Englemon big men. They played in the post because they were the only 6'5 kids Holmes had and in Englemon's case, he was one of the strongest kids in the region at 6'3. I'm not trying to take away anything from Campbell...he has had a decent career so far at OU. I just don't think he's even in the conversation for a thread like this and IMO his numbers were inflated because of being bigger than everyone outside of one or two teams.
  7. Campbell also didn't play in the region when there were other bigs to match up with him. He was good but his numbers were a product of simply being bigger than everyone else...IMO, of course.
  8. Who beats them? I think they would have beaten Oldham, Hoptown, and Ballard in the finals.
  9. Cincy St X is considered the 3rd best team in the state (not D1) for this upcoming season. 3. St. XAVIER The scoop: After winning 11 games in two years, the Bombers won 11 last season. Junior quarterback Sean Clifford, a Penn State commitment, leads the offense. Michigan State commit Noah Davis is a big target for Clifford. Top 10 high school football teams in Ohio for 2015
  10. Were OJ Mayo and Bill Walker still at Rose Hill Christian in 03 when St Henry beat them by 20 in the All A State Finals?
  11. Mason Co faithful won't like this but what if Mike Schmidt doesn't get hurt and sit out the entire 2nd half with a twisted knee in the first round of the 03 state tournament? Mason Co had no answer for him. Myrick gets away with a walk on a deflection on St Hank's last possession to preserve the 59-57 win. Still think St Henry wins that game and the state title if Schmidt stays healthy. Myrick got a hand on a pass by Crusaders senior Matt Fabiani to classmate Matt Otte at the top of the key and knocked it into Mason County's end. He retrieved the ball and held on to preserve the win. "I know I walked," said Myrick, whose had six points, five below his average, but also had five steals. "I got away with one there." "I just thought he walked," said Otte, who rolled his arms in a plea for the call. "I was biased, I guess, but it's too late, now. .......The Crusaders led 28-24 at the half, after shooting 47.8 percent from the field (11-for-23), including 5-of-6 from center Michael Schmidt. His last two of 13 first-half points came as he fell to the floor and suffered a twisted left knee. "(Schmidt's) a terrific player," Wells said. "We had a ton of trouble matching up with him. It's a shame he has to play so well all season and then get hurt in a game like that.
  12. Trust me when I say the majority of the coaches and players aren't fans of the comments made by him on here...
  13. ^^^Holmes has some really good skill guys this year but much like most every other year, line play will determine how successful they can be. This year's seniors are a very experienced bunch.
  14. Looking at that roster, I have a hard time believing the 14 team was better than the 04 team. I'm sure my current CCH guys won't like that comment but man that 04 team was loaded top to bottom.
  15. I thought this was the strength of Cooper this year, with them playing so many young kids last year??
  16. Man you guys let uk#1fan dictate your perception of SK way too much. Let's remember a lot of their players get on here and read some of the garbage being said to dis credit them any time uk#1 gets a lititle excited about something .
  17. Was having this discussion with a buddy of mine (SK grad) this morning. He posed the following question: "Is it crazy to think that even as state champs, that 2014 Covcath team wasn't one of the best 5 to come through the 9th over the past 20 years?" A few arguments he made: 1. 08 Holmes team was deeper and if not for one of the best players to come through KY (Darius Miller), that 08 team cuts down the nets led by Henderson. (Also argued Ruthsatz was no where near the all around player that Henderson was regardless of what the "stats" say) 2. They would have been the 3rd or 4th best team in the region in 2003 because they couldn't have competed with all the size in the region that year. (I told him see Newcath in 14) 3. They had one of the easiest paths to the state finals that any team has had over the past 20 years from the 9th region. 4. The 04 Covcath team was better. Just as physical a team but with better shooters, and much more size across the board. Legit points or is my man crazy?
  18. 2009 Jon Hood- Madisonville North Hopkins 2010 Elisha Justice- Shelby Valley 2011 Anthony Hickey- Christian Co 2012 Nathan Dieudonne- Trinity 2013 Dom Hawkins- Madison Central 2014 Quentin Snider- Ballard 2015 Camron Justice- Knott Co Central
  19. Mick himself said this story isn't referring to him: Mick Cronin ✔@CoachCroninUC Lance. Tell them I'm sorry. I like a good confrontation. But it wasn't me. Last one I had a guy picked up my ball💯 8:28 PM - 13 Aug 2015
  20. To piggyback off the 10th region thread... Who are the top 5 players and teams from the 9th region over the last 20 years? I'm a little younger and don't know much about the late 90's Highlands' teams, so I'll go with: 1. 2009 Holmes 2. 2004 Covcath 3. 2003 St Henry 4. 2008 Holmes 5. 2014 Covcath 1. Elijah Pittman 2. Mike Brock 3. Justin Doellman 4. Ross Neltner 5. Ricardo Johnson/Ron Dawn/Brandon Hatton/James Bolden/Brennan Votel/Arrez Henderson/Derek Smith??? Thoughts?
  21. Good NKY players...not among the best in the state. And that's not a knock on either. As stated multiple times, there is more talent in KY right now than we've seen in a long time.
  22. PP2 = Carson's biggest groupie In all seriousness, Carson will have enough exposure this year to likely make it a two man race between he and Goodin...BIG FAN of C-Dub and how he plays but I like Q a little more.
  23. Interested to see how Holmes' transfer Ian Brolley does once he becomes eligible in mid December. Should be a solid addition as he provides another scoring option and solid ball handler/defender. The NKU women's head coach son, AJ Plitzuweit, and fellow sophomore Tyler Schreck should also see solid minutes this season. Dixie will be young and inexperienced, for the most part, but have the pieces to make another region tournament appearance.
  24. Kentucky has now lost 2 of the top 3 players in the state with the loss of Eli and Braxton. Goodin was my favorite for KY Mr Basketball, regardless, but I don't see how he doesn't get it now with the loss of those two to out of state schools. Also disappointed I won't get to see a Goodin v Wright matchup in December when I go to North Laurel for the Legacy Nissan Classic.
