I really don't think they would either, however, I do think they played a better game in their championship then Mayfield did in there's. I also think Beechwood was a better team than NCC and while NCC played better in the state game than Beechwood did, the Tigers did beat them in the regular season handily and were a higher ranked team in everyone's poll over the Breds..

The thread topic didn't say rank them best to worse, he said rank them from what you saw this weekend.. Well, imo, the 6 winners looked better in winning than any of the losers did losing, so, all 6 would go 1-6, then who looked the worse out of the losers.. No question, Lex Cath layed a big egg. Yes, give Belfry credit, but, still, they looked like they had never played defense in all their lives.. Beechwood may have beaten NCC during the regular season, but, NCC looked better in the championship than Beechwood did.. Pulaski Co and Lafayette, imo, looked like the 2 best losers, followed by NCC.. JJcentral was thrashed pretty good and didn't get a lot going against SW, so, I'd have them right behind NCC, followed by Beechwood and Lex Cath..

Thoughts on 2015 Championships

True, but, the basketball is a blind draw where every team has the same chance of playing at wed noon as they do Thursday at 8:00 pm.. In this case, the KHSAA hand selected which games went where, therein lies the problem.. -

While I hear what you're saying PP, he makes a valid point.. These games scheduled where the 2 local teams were given the prime slots.. No way did they want to see BGreen and SWarren play on the same day.. I really didn't like the late time slot on sunday.. A lot of folks had to drive back and go to work Monday morning without the option of taking the day off.. JC was the team that really got the shaft from a time slot perspective, even though it was a primetime slot for SWarren.. -

I don't know about a compromise between public and private, but, I think it's all about the money and getting every team possible in the playoffs.. With 6 classes, that means that 32 of 38 or 39 teams from each class make it in, while all teams from 1a and 6a make it because they only have 32 teams to begin with.. I'd like to see 4 classes with 48 teams, 6 teams per district and then an elite division with about 24 to 28 teams, which would be comprised of your best 6a teams based on how they've performed over the past 4 years.. I would even look at the elite 5a teams that are dominating their division to move into the 6a elite division.. -

The question was, how long has it been since a NKy school hasn't won a title? The year Collins beat Highlands? Did NCC win that year or was that it? I just know between Beechwood, NCC and Highlands, there's typically at least one of those putting a championship trophy in the trophy case.. -
A few observations 1) No private school winners. how long has it been since that happened or has it ever happened. 2) No NKy champions. How often has that happened. 3)Pike Co and Warren Co took home 4 of the 6 titles.. Which one would you call TitleTown. 4) not any of the 6 games were won by single digits. Does this signify too many classes. 5) Should the Semi finals be seeded to insure the best 2 teams make the finals.

Belfry/Lexington Catholic Updates

Lex Cath is being humiliated and embarrassed.. Belfry is running thru them like pudding.. At least make it a little tough on them.. It's not like they're doing anything fancy, just lining up and going straight ahead.. Terrible D by the Knights.. -
What this Mayfield team may have lacked in sheer playmakers, they made up for with their mental makeup. Very mentally tough team that never let an opponents big play take over the momentum in any game they played.. This team was down 6 or 7 times this year and in all but one, they came back and you'd have never known they were down and they would methodically come back and take control. Very mentally tough team..

NCC stayed in the game due to their run defense.. They just knocked Mayfields OL backwards most of the game and poor Trajon barely got the handoff befire he had 3 guys in his grill.. The amazing thing to me was as good as the NCC D was against the run, they got absolutely no pressure on the QB against the pass.. I thought that Mayfield's D won the game for them.. With exception of a couple of Smith runs and the long TD pass, the Breds offense really didn't threaten much throughout the game.. I love the Cardinal LB corp of Arnett, Hurt, Workman and the other kids name escapes me, but, they're all over the place on every play.. Coach Joe may have done his best coaching job this year as they simply didn't have any size or depth on the OL and DL and he went out and put his best athletes on the field in positions they weren't used to playing and they toughed it out for another title.. IMO, no way should they have beaten OB Cath or Desales to even be that far..

Class 1A State Championship: Pikeville 42 Beechwood 28

I'm not sure a couple of players would make up 21 points. I know, it was only 14, but, 7 of those was when the game was in hand and out of reach in the waning moments.. -

Come on, please. Blaming a loss on injuries is bad enough, but, then throwing in a kid who's not even on the team is worse. Every school has good athletes roaming the halls that could be playing and doing really well, but, opted to not play for whatever reason. Also, it's the 15th game of the season. You don't think Pikeville had some injuries, nics, bangs and bruises and not everyone playing at 100%. In 1 breath, you say take nothing away from Pikeville, then in the next you say had we been healthy, we likely win. Weather meant or not, that's exactly what you did, you took credit away from the Panthers. I know you were trying to be politically correct, but, honestly, you took credit away and layed blame instead of giving them the credit they deserved. -
Question for anyone that has seen Pikeville play
UK fball fan replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
I think this years Pikeville team and last years Williamsburg team would be a great game.. Pikeville had the better running game, but, Williamsburg could throw it all over the field with great WRs and a QB that also beat you with his feet.. I'd give the edge to Williamsburg simply because others saying last years Panther team was better than this years and that team was not as good as Raceland, who was a couple of rungs below that Jacket team.. -
As a Mayfield fan, I'm glad we moved up to 2a this year.. Pikeville was a solid team and Pugh was a man amongst boys..

Class 1A State Championship: Pikeville 42 Beechwood 28
UK fball fan replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
Beechwood was ranked #1 on the BGP polls all year. I felt Paintsville had the best resume thru the season and Pikeville was right behind them along with Beechwood.. I never thought Beechwood would dominate the class and win the title going away.. There were several posters on here that did think that.. I thought they had a shot to win it all, but, no more so than the other 2 above or even Russellville.. I thought it would be competitive either way and it was..
