The Freshman Tigers improved their record to 5-0. This game was played at Boone County. Who ever is now taking care of the Boone County Field... You are doing a great job!

Beechwood Varsity moves to 2-1 on the season. This game was played at UC, part of the Reds Showcase series.

Tigers pitchers: Bode (3 innings-scoreless), Wilder (2) and Huesman (2). Tigers JV moves to 3-0.

Baby Tigers moved to 4-0 by beating the Spartans of Turpin. Brayden Burch pitched a complete game.

..And SK Freshman canceled on Beechwood, Thursday. What do you make of that? Odd.

Good article. One thing: how are you a volunteer, but you do get compensation? I think true volunteers should get the ultimate margin for error. If I am paying to you to do a job, along with another coach, we expect a certain amount of hustle, experience and decision making. I do think some of coaches expect mlb umpires for 60 bucks and game, but most coaches know that there are going to be flaws in game calling at most age levels. You are right, along with umpires the coaches should know the rules. Good stuff.

LOL. I'm never one to criticize an official, but this one needs some practice. It was by far the largest strike zone that I've seen since d league knothole. The zone was neck to shin, 10" inside and out... and he never saw a curve ball he didn't like. Kind of comical, but luckily he did it to both teams. Not to take anything away from the pitching, but there were so many undeserved strikeouts.

Well pitched game by the the Baby Birds and Baby Tigers. The Tigers struggled in a couple innings defensively and the Birds returned the favor in the last inning. Ian Meyer pitched 5 strong innings for the Tigers and Logan Castleman finished it off. Tanner Juett started for the Birds and pitched 3 very good innings. I'm not sure who the left handed reliever was but he also pitched well. Fine game to watch. The Tigers goes to 2-0 on the season and the Birds are now 3-1.

The 8th graders are John Odom, Clay Trusty and Logan Castleman. The freshman is Jarius Wilder.

Who are the probables? I heard it's going to Fieger or Combs for the Tigers.... most probably Combs. In my opinion he has looked the best to this early point in the year. Howabout HHS?

I can try. 7 runs were scored in the first. HHS started a tall lefthander (Frimfrok)sp. Looks like a very good pitcher other than, from over hearing, has had some shoulder and arm problems. Looks a little rusty because of it. They pitched to other right handers after him, but the damage was somewhat done. HHS did hit the ball and at times hard, but right at the defense. Beechwood made every play. Beechwood started a junior right hander. He is a very good pitcher but just came up short of Varsity. Very efficient thrower. I think they had him slated to throw2-3 but since his pitch count was so low they let him go 4. A freshman lefthander pitched the last inning. He has a lot of velocity but can be a wild. I was hoping that Ethan Doty was going to pitch for HHS. That would have been a different game. His dad said that he will only pitch Varisty relief, but may dh or occasionally catch for JV. Like I said, after the first inning it was a really good game. Both sides hit the ball but the Tigers "hit it were they weren't".. if you will. Also, like someone mentioned above, the Bluebirds were playing their 2nd game of the day and it was our first. I don't know if that makes a difference or not... If it were me I would have wanted to be on my second game versus our first. So, we probably saw their 3,4,5 and they saw our, probably, 1 and 2. Other than the Tigers 1st pitcher, Bode, no one really jumped out at you as having a great game. We did start some really young kids and I think they held their own. They batted 1,3,6 and 9 and played 2nd, LF, C and CF. As far as the field be mentioned in another thread, and also being compared with Beechwoods and Meinken, it couldn't be further from the truth. We played there last year and just like last year the field was very nice. It's not the best... but it is very good. I would take it for our home field right now. lol

I agree also. I did not have good expectations for the Tigers going into the game. We don't have a indoor facility and our practices have been sparing and on a gym service. I was very surprised at how well they performed. I was not speaking at all about the performance of the Bluebirds. The 'crickets' was hopefully to get other beechies to chatter about it. Because we didn't have over 100 tryout there were no cuts. In fact, we had 3 8th graders and a freshman start in that game. Thanks for the HHS coaches and parents for getting the field ready... it was in great shape. So, you can keep your trophy, Q.

My kid goes there, and plays there. If there is a worse field.... I want to know about it. Ask all of the other teams and parents who has the worst field. Its an embarrassment. They are cutting into the field... DURING BASEBALL SEASON.... to make an elementary basketball gym. It was a sad field before, its a sad field now and it will be a worse field when they are done with the elementary gymnasium. Nuf said? Sorry to hurt your feelings.

Gonna be a good day... watch the Cats win and then get outside and watch the Bluebirds and Tigers play some baseball.

I don't rule it out. It's dry, but just in lousy shape. Construction crews were to begin cutting into the field to make room for the new elementary gymnasium... but haven't yet. They have to little steel line markers, with flags, lining the outfield (unsafe). That is why we, Beechwood, was not to play any home games. But, KHsaa and now our schedule says home game. Go figure.

It would take the Beechwood coaches, the Highlands coaches and several construction companies to get Beechwood playable. It is not a nice field and no plans to make it better. Sad for us.
