Beechwood 2 Highlands 1 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Well pitched game by the the Baby Birds and Baby Tigers. The Tigers struggled in a couple innings defensively and the Birds returned the favor in the last inning. Ian Meyer pitched 5 strong innings for the Tigers and Logan Castleman finished it off. Tanner Juett started for the Birds and pitched 3 very good innings. I'm not sure who the left handed reliever was but he also pitched well. Fine game to watch. The Tigers goes to 2-0 on the season and the Birds are now 3-1.

Good to hear Highlands 8th grader Tanner Juett got some pitched well. He is another future prospect for the Birds. Year round baseball player as well.

I missed the game due to work issues but this is what was reported to me. Griffin Huber is the lefty who came in relief. He pitched 3 strong innings. Cooper Schwalbach came in to close the game. This game is a good example on why you play 7 innings.

The Birds only score came from Sam Hennigan's hit up the middle. Advanced to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitch/passed balls. Nick Deal got the RBI on soft hit to 3rd. Aaron Verst hit a bomb to left center and was robbed by Beechwoods center fielder.

S/O to Bwd's Ian Meyer for being a smart pitcher and to the CF who made a diving ESPN style catch to strand a runner.

S/O to Baby Birds defense for not having one error until bottom of the 7th inning. Their defense has played extremely well for being early in the year.

CoW, what did you think of the umpire K zone?

LOL. I'm never one to criticize an official, but this one needs some practice. It was by far the largest strike zone that I've seen since d league knothole. The zone was neck to shin, 10" inside and out... and he never saw a curve ball he didn't like. Kind of comical, but luckily he did it to both teams. Not to take anything away from the pitching, but there were so many undeserved strikeouts.
