  1. And that I will agree with. It would be easy for me to say that we just had a bad shooting night. While we missed open shots, NCC's team defense had something to do with that.
  2. My initial response was to Kentonman and I will say again...I do not see how Hightchew physically dominated Burger.
  3. Burger played about 24 minutes took 15 shots (see my post on the complete box score above). Hightchew played the whole game minus mop up time about 2:30 left in the game.
  4. Full Box score, minus quarter-by-quarter scoring, which Q already provided. BTW, Holy Cross was the home team in uniform, but the Visitor on the scoreboard. I understand that the top team in the bracket is the home team, but if you are going to have the team wear the home uniforms, then at least be consistent on the scoreboard as well. Do it all one way or all the other is all I am saying. HC - Burger 8-15 2-3 20, Avery 1-6 0-0 3, Arlinghaus 5-13 2-2 13, McClendon 0-4 0-0 0, Fuller 0-1 0-0 0, Allen 1-2 0-0 2, Broering 0-6 0-0 0, Tiberi 0-1 0-2 0, Thompson 2-5 0-0 5, Fortner 0-3 0-0 0, Beal 0-0 0-0 0, Walker 0-0 0-0 0, Knochelman 2-3 0-1 4, Gabbard 0-0 0-0 0, Totals 19-59 4-8 47. NCC - Bueter 1-4 0-0 3, Hightchew 8-11 6-7 22, Giesler 7-10 3-3 17, Miller 2-3 0-0 4, Doyle 3-4 0-0 8, Dupont 0-0 0-0 0, Shields 0-0 0-0 0, Ryan 5-7 4-6 16, Seibert 0-0 0-0 0, Devoto 1-1 2-2 4, Grosser 0-0 2-2 2, Schulte 0-0 0-0 0, Totals 27-40 17-20 76. Notes: Holy Cross never had the lead in this game. There was a tie at 23 with about 1:30 to go in the first half. In the second half, the Indians trailed by one at 27-26 and were down 35-33 midway through the 3rd Quarter. As you can see from the 'Breds shooting performance, they could not have played a better game. They did commit 19 turnovers, but because of their defense, they only allowed 17 points off of turnovers. NCC shot 5-9 from beyond the arc while HC was 5-27. Understatement of the year: Jake Giesler is a tremendous player, but had an "off night" compared to his first game against us. He added 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks in this game and in the last game he had 22 boards, 6 dimes, and 5 rejections in that one. Brian Doyle had 11 rebounds and three steals for the 'Breds. Brady Hightchew had seven assists as well and Michael Beuter had six assists and four steals. As a team NCC had 22 assists on 27 made baskets compared to HC which had 15 assists on 19 makes. Jerry Arlinghaus led Holy Cross with six rebounds, Christian McClendon had four assists and tied Jake Burger for the lead in steals with three. Congratulations to the Thoroughbreds and good luck in the All "A" State Tournament.
  5. :rolleyes:Yeah, Burger, had a pretty bad game, he had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 0 turnovers. In the first half, he had 11 points and scored 9 in the 2nd half. I don't exactly understand your post about his being physically dominated.
  6. He went 0-4 from the field, 0-2 from three, but he did lead the team in assists and steals with four and three respectively.
  7. NewCath shot 27-40 (67.5%) from the field while Holy Cross went 32% from the field. Say what you want about creating turnovers in which the Breds committed 19, 7 by Giesler, but when you shoot lights out like that, your opponent is not going to win that game. NCC had Villanova-like shooting in the second half going 16-22 (73%) from the field while Holy Cross shot 27% in the 2nd half. I will have a complete box score and notes from the game as soon as possible. I thought I had to drink a lot after the Bryan Station game, but I think I need more after this one.
  8. No prediction here...I'll just let the chips fall where they may. It is interesting that in Coach Goetz's first year as head coach, he went to the All "A" region final beating Dayton, Lloyd, Beechwood, and then losing to NewCath. This year of course we defeated Dayton, Beechwood, Lloyd and now we play NewCath again. I reminded Coach of that last night and he said (paraphrasing), "We're working toward a different outcome this time." I will be up in the balcony on the Visitor's side doing our stats if anyone wants to stop by and say hi.
  9. Depth could be an issue for the Bulldogs with the loss of Mayfield, but for the sake of supporting NKY basketball, I'll take the Dogs by three.
  10. Definitely the difference between the first game and this one. You make shots, you can apply pressure effectively. It was good to meet you last night. Sorry you couldn't stick around for the second half. What happened with the nkysports broadcast? Are you doing tonight's game?
  11. The bracket on the All "A" website has 8:00 as game time. Can someone verify the time please?
  12. Could I get a moderator to correct the score thread? Box score, starters listed first Holy Cross (10-6) - 16 24 27 17 - 84 Lloyd Memorial (11-8) - 8 12 11 24 - 55 HC - Burger 6-11 0-0 16, Avery 3-6 5-5 12, Arlinghaus 2-6 0-0 4, McClendon 2-7 0-0 4, Fuller 1-3 0-0 3, Allen 2-7 0-0 4, Broering 4-6 0-3 9, Tiberi 2-3 2-2 7, Thompson 2-4 0-0 5, Fortner 0-2 0-0 0, Chames 0-0 0-0 0, Beal 1-2 0-0 2, Walker 0-0 1-3 1, Knochelman 4-6 2-2 10, Schuler 0-0 0-0 0, Gabbard 3-3 0-0 7, Totals 32-66 10-15 84. Lloyd - Carter 2-4 0-0 5, McGue 1-4 0-0 2, Moore 5-7 3-4 13, Cheatum 4-5 4-7 12, Williams 1-2 0-0 3, Hall 0-1 2-2 2, Asher 1-4 0-0 3, Jenkins 0-1 0-0 0, McCaster 1-5 2-3 5, Bray 2-3 0-0 5, Krebs 1-2 1-1 3, Marsh 0-0 0-0 0, Danks 1-4 0-0 2, Totals 19-42 12-17 55. Notes: HC forced Lloyd into 34 turnovers leading to 40 points contributing to the Indians scoring 80+ points in three consecutive games. Jake Burger led HC with six rebounds as the Indians outrebounded the Juggernauts 32-30. Jalen Avery had six assists and Kyle Fuller added five as HC has 24 assists as a team. Donnie Cheatum had eight rebounds for Lloyd and Niko Hall had seven assists. Burger also led the Indians with four threes on six attempts and HC was 10-22 from beyond the arc overall. HC will take on NCC at NewCath HS Saturday 1/22. Game time on the bracket at the All "A" website is 8pm, but I have also heard 7pm. Waiting for confirmation of the game time.

  14. paNDA, I cannot speak for every coach in the area, but I think it goes back to some of what Schue says here. I know back when I was in high school, there were at least a few kids who were interested in keeping accurate statistics and being team managers for the sports programs, but I do not think that kind of work ethic exists anymore. I may be making a blanket statement here, but if kids can't play they don't want to be involved. I don't think it is all kids, but definitely most. Coaches are entirely too busy to sit and take stats off of game film, but I do not think it is laziness per se. I'll go even one further. I think the reason I am not concerned about posting complete box scores and information about Holy Cross games, is because while other coaches may get this information, it is ultimately up to our team to not only prepare a game plan, but execute it. A great coach once said, "It is not what you do, but how you do it."
  15. I have done statistics for two high school basketball programs over the last 18 years with every level of success and lack thereof. If high school coaches need statistics as their only preparation for their opponents, then there are some pretty desperate coaches out there. They better be taking a lot of their time scouting and watching game film, because I have never known statistics to be anywhere near the whole story when it comes to evaluating talent and preparing a basketball team for that talent. Take it from someone who has been part of a state champion and several district champions.
  16. Keep in mind that these rankings and my ballot were prior to this week's games. 1. Dixie 2. Boone Co 3. Holmes 4. Scott 5. NewCath 6. CovCath 7. Campbell Co 8. Holy Cross 9. Ryle 10. Simon Kenton I realize this causes a lot of debate. The first comment I will see is how do I rank Holmes above NewCath or Scott over Holy Cross? All I can say is that at the time I posted the ballot, there were about 15 teams that deserved consideration of a ranking and I looked primarily at the results of those 15 teams against each other, their records in those games, and where the games were played. If I had to stop and analyze everyone's schedule as a whole, I would never get a ballot done, so it is what it is.
  17. Number of first place votes in parentheses. 18. If I had the time, I would be willing to do it for the whole Region, but I do not have that kind of time either.
  19. Agreed, which is one of the reasons I voted Scott the 4th best team in the area in the Enquirer poll. I know how good they are and even though the team I work with beat them, I still rate them higher. I have not seen the poll from this week yet and I am hoping to see a thread started soon.
  20. All of the coaches get access to the Enquirer SID website and are eligible to vote. If they do not have access, they can request it from Erin Flege at Sports Websoft, Phone # 513-759-6945. Through the same website they have access to enter their stats. As SID for Holy Cross, I have access and I have not entered our stats from the last few games and I just recently got updated stats for our girls program. I hope to get these done by the end of the weekend. It used to be that we called in stats, but that went away about five years ago or so.
  21. You beat me to it Manny...as wide open as the region appears to be right now, I would even go further and say that you will see one of the favorites in the region matchup with a sleeper in the final and one bad night or one good night and that sleeper could go on to the Sweet 16 :thumb:
  22. I think we have already seen what happens to J-Town without Kimbro and Price, someone correct me if I am wrong about that, but point well taken, SportsGuy.
  23. I've only been part of a NKY basketball program since the 06-07 season. This is good information to know. Thanks.
  24. I know up until recently, when I think of NKY, I usually am speaking of Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties. After further review, I now realize I have to include Mason County as NKY. I was not a part of this thread until now, so I am not sure what you are referring to in your statement.
  25. Wow! Look at that 3rd Qtr...a thing of beauty for Moore, a thing of agony for Shawnee and their fans.
