  1. I have always said that statistics do not always tell the whole story. I am glad that someone who went to the game was able to comment and set me straight. :thumb:
  2. The scoring line from the Scott-CovCath game appears that the Eagles guarded the 3 since CovCath did not hit one, let Thelen get his (36) and have hot shooting nights from your guards. I do not condone that game plan in its entirety, but whatever works to get the win. Again, it comes down to the teams' styles of play and matchups.
  3. The answer is 2. An overtime loss by two on 1/18/2005 and a four-point loss two seasons ago at CovCath.
  4. Who knows what the losing streak is currently? If KHSAA scoreboard is right, I have 16 in a row dating back to our last win over CovCath on 1/4/2000 (Dan Trame's 1st season as Head Coach), score 56-54. Is this right?
  5. 7 - Sayre 5 - Bourbon County 3 - George Rogers Clark 2 - Madison Southern 1 - Covington Holy Cross TB - Sayre
  6. Holy Cross (12-7) - 13 19 21 15 - 68 Campbell Co (13-8) - 19 13 16 18 - 66 HC - Burger 4-13 6-6 15, Avery 1-4 3-4 5, Arlinghaus 7-11 2-2 18, McClendon 2-6 0-0 5, Fuller 2-5 1-2 5, Allen 3-5 1-3 8, Broering 2-5 0-0 4, Thompson 1-3 0-0 2, Fortner 0-1 0-0 0, Knochelman 3-4 0-0 6, Totals 25-57 13-17 68. CC - McGovney 6-10 1-2 16, Graff 6-9 3-4 16, Kennedy 5-7 3-5 14, Griffin 0-1 0-0 0, Losey 3-10 0-0 7, Cox 2-5 0-0 5, J Franzen 1-1 0-0 2, White 1-1 0-0 3, Holbrook 1-1 0-0 3, Totals 25-45 7-11 66. Notes: The game featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes. Holy Cross' largest lead was six points with around five minutes to go in the game. I am not sure what the paper will say, but Junior Jake Burger hit two free throws with five seconds to go to seal the game and Josh Graff hit a three with 1.8 seconds and we did not have to inbound the ball which was game over. The Camels' largest lead was nine with about 2:30 to go at in the 1st half with the score 30-21 when the Indians went on an 11-2 run to close the half tied at 32. IMO, one of the keys to the game was not allowing Senior Nate Losey to have a lot of open looks. If my calculations are correct, coming into the game, Losey had hit 62 3s on the year out of 138 that the team had made in 20 games and he averages around 17 points per game. For most of the game, you could see that he has a great shooting touch and he had two 3-pt attempts that went down the cylinder and popped out. I do not know if it was fatigue or what, but he didn't have the same touch down the stretch. As I said above, Senior Josh Graff was two assists shy of a triple-double, Junior Dalton Griffin added four assists and Sophomore Nate McGovney had three steals. While Holy Cross was outrebounded, they only committed 11 turnovers while forcing 20 which led to 22 points. Jake Burger led the team in rebounding with seven and steals with three. Kyle Fuller had six rebounds, five on the offensive end. Jalen Avery led the Indians with five assists. HC was 5-20 from beyond the arc while Baseball Nut almost had it right with the Camels shooting 9-22 from three land. HC visits CovCath on Friday and is home Saturday against Dixie.
  7. It's a shame that the Camels are in the 10th Region, because they could probably make some noise in the 9th. Josh Graff was 2 assists shy of a triple-double. I will post a box and notes from the game later today. By the way, how long ago was it that Campbell County was moved to the 10th Region? Just curious.
  8. I do not make predictions for a team I work with, but I will say this, Burger has to shoot better than 0-12 and 0-6 from three for us to have a chance. If we can get games with Burger and McClendon both being on, we are tough to beat.
  9. Another example of how crazy this season has been for a lot of teams. Scott's loss on Saturday by 32 to Holmes, then they beat CovCath. Reminds me of CovCath over Christmas with a 36 point loss to Ballard and then they beat Henry Clay. It's like someone or a few someones have already said on this website. The game is all about style of play and matchups.
  10. My understanding is that if Holy Cross and Beechwood are tied with a 1-2 record in the district that head-to-head is not used as a tiebreaker. It would be a blind draw to see who is the #3 and who would be #4 seed. I may be wrong and please let me know for sure.
  11. I think any coach in the 35th District would say that any team can beat any team in our district on a given night. The fact that this was a district game and Beechwood was obviously well-prepared after taking a nearly 30-point loss in the All "A" to us contributed to the outcome of this game. Beechwood's defense shut down Burger, he may have had two open looks all night and he forced some shots he probably should not have taken. Nearly every shot McClendon made he created himself. I also believe that having that game on Wednesday could have helped us not be so stale coming out of the gate (Frankfort cancelled the game) while Beechwood got to play two games since the All "A", but you play the hand you are dealt and do the best you can. Fortunately we got the win. Unless Beechwood can beat Holmes this Saturday, it will definitely be Holmes vs Beechwood and CovCath vs Holy Cross in the district tournament regardless of the outcome in Friday's CovCath/HC contest.
  12. Box score from last night's game. I apologize for it not being in the paper, hopefully I can get it in Monday's edition of the Kentucky Enquirer. Beechwood (9-8) - 17 18 11 12 9 - 67 Holy Cross (11-7) - 17 9 17 15 11 - 69 Tigers - Nussbaum 2-8 2-2 6, Cruse 10-18 4-8 24, Maus 5-10 1-2 11, Brennan 1-1 1-1 3, Fangman 6-18 0-3 12, Prewitt 1-2 2-6 4, Erdman 0-1 1-2 1, McKenzie 3-4 0-0 6, Totals 28-62 11-24 67. Indians - Burger 0-12 5-6 5, Avery 3-6 0-2 6, Arlinghaus 4-7 1-2 11, McClendon 5-12 6-6 17, Fuller 2-3 0-2 4, Allen 3-11 1-2 8, Broering 4-8 1-2 12, Tiberi 0-0 0-0 0, Thompson 0-1 0-0 0, Knochelman 2-4 2-7 6, Totals 23-64 16-29 69. Notes: This game featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes including 7 of each in the 1st Quarter alone and Beechwood simply outplayed us for a good portion of this game. The Tigers largest lead was with about 3:30 left to go at 44-29, but a 14-2 run to close the quarter cut Beechwood's lead down to three entering the 4th Quarter. The Indians survived 36% shooting including an 0-12 night by Jake Burger to pull this win out. Burger did have seven rebounds, six assists and three steals and without his and Christian McClendon's combined 11-12 effort from the free throw line, we would have been in trouble. McClendon led the Indians with nine rebounds and tied for the lead in steals with Burger at three. Noah Knochelman was tied with Burger with seven rebounds. Jalen Avery added five assists on the night. Beechwood had three players with double doubles. Corey Cruse led the Tigers in rebounding with 14, Chase Maus and Tyler Fangman each had 10 rebounds. Fangman led Beechwood with five assists and three steals and Baker Prewitt added four dimes. The Tigers were unable to connect on any of their five 3 point attempts while HC went 7-26.
  13. The competition was a little "chippy" to say the least.
  14. Final score from Msgr. Finn Activity Center. I will try to have a complete box and notes from the game posted here later tonight. Otherwise, please visit cybersportsusa.com to view stats and play by play from the game.
  15. I was able to get cybersportsusa.com webcast to work. :6.7 left in the 4th Qtr HC 58-56 Beechwood has not made a 3 all game, they got a basket with 2 seconds to go in regulation. Half court shot by Burger, no good...OT.
  16. I may or may not be doing my usual updates tonight. I am experimenting with Webcasting our home games on cybersportsusa.com. If someone could give me a heads up as to whether or not it is working that would be great. Also, CovCathIRadio is broadcasting the action on internet radio this evening, although I do not see them in the gym as of yet. JV game just got over.
  17. I would be curious to know how many turnovers Giesler was responsible for. In our game, he had seven, but it didn't matter too much in our game since NCC shot lights out and we shot poorly due to NCC's defense. I guess I am hearing that Brossart shot the ball well during the 4th Qtr and OT.
  18. I don't think you can have a conversation about the 11th Region without Henry Clay, the 9th Region without Holmes and maybe Boone County, and the most glaring one to me is the 6th Region without Western.
  19. I was praying that the 7th and 11 would end up on opposite sides of the bracket. It looks like that is not the case.
  20. I'll own that screw up. I have not entered our stats into the SID site since the first game against Lloyd back on 1/10 I believe. I promise to have them updated this weekend. Thank you for calling me on this.
  21. It should be Thoroughbreds and Fillies. Phillies of course is the baseball team which probably refers to residents of the city of Philadelphia, not sure.
  22. Is there a Highlands? I mean is that the name of the community? I've always seen Fort Thomas Highlands.
