  1. I guess they learned that lesson the hard way. I'm sure no one on either team or in the stands will ever forget that the game isn't necessarily over when the buzzer sounds.
  2. Both coming off of wins against Boone, but I'll have to take the Wildcats in this one. They seem to be playing very well as a team this year and look to have something to prove. Newport 67 St. Henry 59
  3. If no one wants to comment on the actual game this thread should probably be closed. With so many people commenting on a situation that they were, more than likely, not a part of it will just continue to be the he said/she said stuff. Not to mention that the incident being talked about was during a JV game. Whatever did or did not happen will surely be hashed out with the parties involved and the proper school administrators and it should be left at that. It is pretty clear that every athlete from Beechwood is an angel and all of their coaches and administration would and could never hurt a fly All that this chatter on here is doing is taking away from a great win by the Dayton VARSITY basketball team. A win that they have been working extremely hard to get and one that deserves to be celebrated. It doesn't surprise me that the Beechwood faithful wouldn't want to talk about the loss, but there are a handful that are quick to post on the other Greendevil threads downplaying any win they get and saying how the conference title is not a given for the Greendevils. (same people that said Beechwood deserved NKY top 10 consideration after losing to Holmes by 15 :sssh:) The conference is still up for grabs, but the Grendevils just took a huge leap towards being the favorite. ...so how about talking basketball?
  4. I can assure you that there are two sides to this story and the truth is more than likely somewhere in between. I have heard a little different version, of course. Maybe you were one of the parties involved, but if you weren't then you don't know what the truth is I do know that Dayton has that part of the game on tape and the tape never lies. As far as punishment goes, not really sure how the AD recieved a tech but no foul shots were shot  and any punishment other than that would be off of total hearsay (one story against another), with no actual ejections taking place I just don't see anything else coming from this.
  5. That's pretty much correct except they didn't get to take it out. They got the rebound off of his missed free throw on the 1 and 1 and couldn't get the shot off will 3 ticks.
  6. I was wrong, I forgot the actual sequence of events amidst all the excitement. He was intentionally fouled while shooting, made his free throws with no one in the lane, and then when Dayton threw the ball in bounds he was fouled again and missed the front end of the 1 and 1. My mistake.
  7. The finish was very interesting. Dayton was up from 5-11 for much of the 2nd half and then Beechwood went on a nice run. Beechwood tied it up late and then Dayton turned it over with about 1 minute to go. Beechwood ran the clock down to about 15 seconds and then started their offesne (Dayton was in a 2-3 zone), one of the Beechwood guards threw a pass to the top of the key from the wing and Cody Turner jumped it and got out in front for a break away layup. He was caught from behind and fouled hard which resulted in an intentional foul with 2.1 seconds left. He made 2 free throws and that was the game. And thinking of it, he only shot 3 free throws instead of 4. Beechwood got the rebound and then the clock started after the 3rd free throw.
  8. It was strange, it was a first for me.
  9. No one got tossed from this game. Beechwood's AD got tossed at the end of the jv game. I'm not really sure what happened, all that I know is that he got into the face of the Dayton JV coach while the game was going on and he got ejected.
  10. Pretty sure he's a soph. He's a good kid too. Glad to see him playing so well.
  11. Final Loss ends Beechwood's undefeated streak in DIII. Hard fought game by both teams. Contratulations Greendevils!
  12. 41-39 Greendevils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:
  13. Thanks, that's what I thought
  14. All you will need to do is watch a few freshman games to find out. I don't think that it is because they miss too many calls or don't try. I think it is the lack of consistency that makes these games bad. You have very similar plays called differently through out the entire game. I was always told as a player to adjust to how the officials are calling the game, but when the calls aren't consistent it is hard to adjust.
  15. At Beechwood. I'll take Dayton in a close one.
  16. This is sort of related to this thread.... In our game the other night one of our players makes a 3 and the other team is called for a foul under the basket. I was thinking the player fouled would get a free throw or we would get the ball out of bounds, but instead the other team got the ball out of bounds. Was that the right call or should we have retained possession?
  17. The first part of your prediction was correct. This one will be rescheduled, just go the call.
  18. I believe the score was actually 65-45 and Kohls only had 24, guess my memory isn't as good as I thought.
  19. I think this is going to be a good game and a fun one to watch. Both of last year's games were barn burners and the team's split them. It would be a nice birthday present to see the Devils take this one going away, but I think it's going to be close... Dayton 71 Villa 69 Put back by Bowden to win it and a half court 3 at the buzzer by Bryan rims out
  20. Final The Greendevils had 4 in double figures led by Massey with 14. Massey 14 pts 9rebs Turner 12 pts Bowden 11 pts 9 rebs Lovell 10 pts Kohls for Calvary led all scorers with 26. I'm pretty sure all his points came from the paint or at the line. The kid can score going to the basket.
  21. :thumb::thumb: Great post!
  22. I saw Coach Rogers from Thomas Moore at the Newport Game the other night. I am not sure who he was there to see, but Newport has no less than 3 players that IMO could play for the Saints in McDaniel, Foster, and Luther.
  23. Yes, Dayton has a first round bye and plays the winner of the St. Henry/Newport game.
  24. Not so sure I agree with this. These teams match up against each other pretty well (see last year's district matchup). This game was actually much closer than the score says. It was back and forth in the first half with probably 8 ties and lead changes. Newport went into the half up 6 after 2 of the Dayton players got into foul trouble late in the half. The 2nd half it was a 2-4 point game the whole way until the final minutes of the game, despite Turner from Dayton picking up his 4th foul early in the 3rd on an iffy charge call and Bowden picking up his 4th also. #24 for Newport burried all his free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for the Wildcats. #23 for Newport is a nice player, doesn't show a lot of emotion, can play all over the court, and is smooth around the basket- I don't have stats, but I would guess he was their leading scorer. For Dayton, Senior Timmy Massey had a very good all around game. It would be nice to see these 2 teams play again with Dayton at full strength.
