  1. Until Yates is gone as principal, little, if anything will change. Mason was also the strength coach. I certainly hope they put someone in charge of weightlifting for this team if Yates is going to pull a bonehead move like waiting until Feb. at the earliest to hire a coach. They need to be in the weight room NOW!
  2. I don't feel it was that much of a set back. If the kids aren't buying into the program, it is not going to work, I don't care who is coaching. I had several players tell me they hated the system. Losing James was a real hit, but he was not the entire team. Mercer always did well in the first quarter, then the other team adjusted and Mercer did not. That is the coaches responsibility. I do not expect miracles from a new coach, I would like to see a change in the culture and attitudes. Change that and the wins will come.
  3. I have heard the complaints in the stands too. Administration needs to handle things differently than they have. Some coaches are going to curse, nature of the beast. As far as weightligting, there has too be a coach present for them to lift. They are self motivated PurplePride, can't lift if a coach isn't there. I agree they need to be in the weight room. My opinion is you either go with a proven coach or completely the other way, a rookie coach. Maybe even look at Floro the middle school coach.
  4. I agree that the administration needs to leave the coach alone and let him coach. I just don't think Mason was a good head coach. He needs to engage parents in off the field activities and issues and tell them to go have a seat on all football related issues. He didn't bond well with the community for some reason. Could be because he didn't live in Mercer County, could be something else. Those type things are critical for coaching success.
  5. Mercer's defense is struggling. Look at how many points they have been giving up. Offense does OK first quarter until the opponent adjusts, after that it is an up hill battle. Unless they do something different, results will be the same as the last several weeks.
  6. Yes he is. Guay may be out too. Shoulder re-injured against Pulaski. Elijah Mayes is out also.
  7. Injuries happen every year. You have to adjust. If the 2's are that much behind the 1's, that my friend is a coaching problem.
  8. If Lincoln beats SL, Mercer is a 4 seed. Otherwise I think they are a 3.
  9. I agree with everything you said RememberThis.
  10. Against mediocre teams. I think that is a lot of the problem, they relied too heavily on James. He is an outstanding talent. I understand you go with your strength. A more well rounded attack would be helpful for this very situation. Other players have a ton of talent, they don't seem to have the "home run" ability everytime they touch the ball like James does.
  11. I will agree that some of the parents don't help the situation at Mercer. Coaches are treated just fine. It would probably help if the Head Coach would engage the public better. The administration is clueless. We may not have a gold mine, but we have plenty of talent. It just needs to be coached properly. Coach French said it himself in the Advocate-Messenger Sunday. He was asked how he thought his defense did against Mercer. He replied with something about it was hard to tell against a Wing T team, nobody runs the Wing T. Maybe that is part of the problem. It didn't work last year and it doesn't seem to be working this year.
  12. Coach Weaver lasted one day as Head Coach. After his meeting with Prinicpal Yates, he decided he didn't want to coach here. Can't blame him. The talent is there, it just needs to be coached. On another note though, you can't coach your team if you have to handle petty issues with parents everyday. Mercer needs parents who support the program, not just their kids. The community needs to be involved as well.
  13. I agree maddog22. Jaggers was 10-2 his first season. The Junior class at Mercer is the same class that went undefeated as 8th graders and went 8-2 as Freshman. The same players are playing. Makes you wonder what has changed......
  14. Ugly game by Mercer. 41 yards total offense.
  15. No any forfeit is a 1-0 victory.
  16. Final: Mercer 28 Dunbar 21
  17. What are your predictions for tonights Mercer County vs Paul L. Dunbar game?
  18. Why did Iroquois forfeit?
  19. Freshman always play at the old HHS field. Midle school does as well.
  20. amnews is reporting that they have offered it to Brown. Bad move. Not enough expierence.
  21. I feel that is a slap in Mason's face.
  22. I hope Bill Mason is hired. The players like him as well as the rest of the coaching staff.
