  1. Just to let you know.....I'm not really against a good laugh. I am just proving a point to my students currently taking my Human Ecology class. Thanks to all for your responses.
  2. So the person whose picture is displayed is not worthy of defending?? I think the seen we are looking at is a person. And yes, thyroid conditions can be at the very heart of weight issues, that was just one issue that might be a possibility. There are so many other things in this world we can make fun of and laugh at. I'm just saying that people's misery shouldn't be one of them.
  3. Roll your eyes!!! When you have a family member affected by a disease that shuts down the thyroid and nearly costs their life and you listen to public comments such as these...I feel I have the right to speak out. It's not holier than thou...it's call humanity...try taking a dose of it!!!!
  4. What disgusting behavior on behalf of everyone of you!! Hope you or a loved one never faces a disease that causes weight gain. If you do...hope you can take the criticism of people such as yourselves.
  5. IMO the #1 thing that defines a good official and a better official is a thorough knowledge of the game. Not arrogance in the belief that you know everything, but are willing to admit when a call maybe amiss or when you show confidence that it was the right call and don't try to make up for it on the other end. Consistency on both ends of the quart no matter who you know.
  6. Sad part about LYF's situation is that they draw from outside of the city and I believe that became the case a couple of years ago due to small numbers. I wonder if that is the case for Dayton and Bellevue. So not all are prospects for the high school program. Totally agree though, that youth leagues are vital to the future of high school programs and not just in football.
  7. So very true....unfortunately convincing a parent of that is another story. Case in point..a family currently resides in Ludlow, mom is a teacher at Ludlow, dad was an outstanding athlete who graduated from Ludlow, there kids have ample athletic ability, however they go to Kenton County schools. What would it take to convince people to stay in these small schools? Maybe the coaches in these schools need to come up with a plan of promoting their kids to draw the attention of colleges. In alot of cases maybe the parents feel that bigger schools are better equipped to do so.
  8. Don't discount all the NKY Independent schools (ie. Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow...). These schools see some signs of struggle. These paticular districts are in a "land locked" situation. There is no housing growth. There are alot of transient students because of an abundance of rental properties. Not to mention the "urban" attitude that rears it's ugly head with what could be some talent. Most would rather see street time rather than minutes in a game. The stable families that participate in the athletics in these schools are only viable for so long.
  9. Well done!! I would like to add..one doesn't follow a spiritual leader for 20+ years and not become profoundly influenced by the "word" being delivered. Rev. Wright did not adopt his idealology over night or during Obama's campaign trail. Obama only denounced him after his party begged him to distance himself. What will happen if Obama is elected? Will Rev. Wright become his spiritual advisor once again????? God help us. This man has more anti-American,anti-Semitic and anti-white rhetoric than Louis Farrakhan.
  10. After watching the first three Bengals' games..this day couldn't come soon enough.
  11. I'm not knocking the parents (because I'm one) however, some do have a tendency to see their child with rose colored glasses on. Maybe he should let the parents know that if they persist in getting in his face that they are welcomed to watch the game through the gym doors. Don't think for one second a kid is not embarrassed when the parent(s) acts like a fool. It would be nice to see him get a little more passionate with his coaching techniques. I'm not a coach, but I've been to what seems to be a million games and have seen many coaching styles. IMO the ones who show passion on the side lines get the most results. I'm not saying you have to be a horses backside, but if the kids see your enthusiasm I feel it tends to generate it on the court.
  12. AMEN!! Although I need to remember those words when it comes to watching UK this year.
  13. He had ample talent last year!! He really didn't have a bad Senior class. There seemed to be positions filled by the wrong player. Some players were kept on the floor despite their unwillingness to play as a team and pass the ball instead of taking ridiculous shots. Any team that played them last year would tell you there were two players in particular who wanted a one man show. The two games I was at, it seemed as though his ear was being "bended" by too many parents. He left in one of his guards who I'm not sure if he was having a bad game....but he got his pocket picked 4 straight times down the court and was equally ineffective defensively. TAKE HIM OUT. I didn't see that kid the next time we played, so I don't know if he was an issue or not. Maybe it would benefit coach Highfield to make those kind of calls despite the disapproval of the parents. If I remember correctly his dad was a coach sometime ago for Ludlow. He was decent. I'm sure coach Highfield seeks his advice. How many years has he been coaching? It takes a couple of seasons to develop a coaching style and to adapt to the talent pool you are working with.
  14. No matter what Boone comes out the next 3 years with talent.
  15. I'd go something like this: 1. Holmes 2. Boone Co 3. Covcath 4. NCC 5. Ryle 6. Highlands 7. St Henry 8. Conner 9. Dixie 10. Newport Most likely the PG for Dixie is sophmore Matt Trammel. Pike may see some time in the 4 position.
  16. There should be no problem, if the actual school is not involved directly or indirectly. However.....it does go on. I wonder how easy it will be for families to make the best decisions for their families with the given economy. Houses aren't flying off the market and jobs are not readily available for the picking.
  17. I'm just saying...if it looks, walks and quacks like a duck ......well......
  18. Of course they do!! I just find it rather insulting when the districts involved in "transfer controversy" on a more than one occasion want to whine and complain that they are targets for the KHSAA. I'm sure every year familes uproot and sell their homes and seek new employment so that their child can participate in a "great" basketball program. The KHSAA may be forced to believe the circumstances, but I will still feel free to question the true validity.
  19. Most would take it as, if you can pick and choose where you want to go to high school and play sports then this makes it no different than going to a parochial school where there are little or no restictions on eligibility. Therefore, skewing the balance. I would think most public school supporters would agree that parochial schools have an advantage athletically (in all sports). With Scott County consistently receiving "impact" players on a regular basis only puts a larger target of scrutiny on their backs.
  20. There is no doubt that Scott County has a great program. That is easily helped by impact players "moving" into the district on a regular basis. Why shouldn't the KHSAA raise their eyebrow and question it. This is what they have been assigned with. Otherwise certain districts would "reload" on a seasonal basis.
  21. I agree he has the size to compete. He had some good summer scrimmages, but he needs to find aggression.
