Just a thought....if the football Gods blessed Monroe with a perfect game and they pull out the upset what would that actually do to the Football community!!!! Would it be considered a fluke... Would they say BG is down this year... It would Monroe be considered a contender.... Just a thought out loud!!!!!!

IMHO I truly feel Monroe plays tough and stays competitive. Do they win....I will never say a team is better than Monroe. I will say Monroe's best 11 will play four quarters, I just can't say it will be enough to beat BowlingGreen. I am very excited about this match up...win or lose I feel this is a really good season opener for the Falcons. Good luck to all and I hope everyone stays healthy!!!

I may be going to eat crow, but BG will not have a running clock on Monroe, anytime in the game. Will Monroe beat BG? It is not designed for a 2a school to be as competitive as a 5a. Could Mayfield beat BG? I will say the same thing. Will Monroe compete with their best 11...absolutely!!!!!

35-0 Monroe shuts out the Gators early in the third. Jv plays the rest of the third and freshman play the fourth. Very good showing for the extremely healthy Falcons...they have a new attitude and purpose!!! I do want to give Greenwoods kicker a big shout out!!! He kicked a 60yd field goal during warm ups and it had five to give through the middle of the uprights, even the Monroe fans were cheering for him. Awesome job young man!!! 2a is looking very tough this year!!!:sssh:

Wayne county has a wonderful program and very good Fan base. Monroe has a wonderful relationship with the boys of Wayne sharing the 623rd....our programs are close and we love what they do and how they play the game. Very classy!!!!

I hope Monroe shows up to play. We had 19 kids out last season with season ending injuries. The 22 starters are mostly three year starters and we have a lot of depth due to the injury ridden season of last. Our size is very good, but new offensive scheme this year could hinder an early season success. It's ok with me if we go 0-5 as long as we are running on all cylinders come playoffs. District should be a cakewalk for this squad. I am looking forward to SW And JH gams as well.

Oh I love the smack talk also...it use to be very good when Green county fans would get plum ignorant....it made that game all the more enjoyable and rewarding when I would get back on here for a little Crow supper!!!!!

But in all honesty, the big kid is a good transfer, Monroe has two 6-7 330+ linemen and two 6-4. Bringing back all but two from a terrible hurt team last season

I was not intending to knock John Hardin at all my friend...actually I was punching at South. SW will most likely start their season with a loss. I am very aware of JH and their football program, I am just not a fan of SW. They should have tried to schedule BG. Monroe is more than likely going to have their hands very full with the Purples, but like BG, no one wants to play Monroe as well. Had a very tough time filling their schedule. They are playing all 4a-6a schools until they hit district. No one in the lower classes wanted to play ball...so my apologies to you and your program, it was sincerely not my intention to blackball your school.

The boards get hilarious this time of year with the "my team is better than your team posts"....that will all change come mid-September!!!

BowlingGreen Purples will play the Monroe County Falcons in the second game of the Rafferty's Bowl at WKU at 8:00pm.

Monroe has an inner squad Blue/White scrimmage. They host the Greenwood Gators next Thursday for a scrimmage.

On paper it looks like 2a and 5a are stacked!!!! These should be some really good games this year with most of the powerhouse 2a teams playing up all the time. Playoffs should be tough all the way through this year...

I agree with every part of your post. Monroe has an enormous line. Two 6-7 guys. The smallest guy is our center and he is just a tough farm kid with more grit than 99% of the team. I would take ten of him and one speedster and have a heck of a time in football. Monroe's defensive line is also a tough nut to crack. The skilled positions are filled with three year staters...well two because all backs were out last season with injuries. The Qb is a three year starter and could actually be said he is a four year. Arnett is the little brother to Jackson Arnett who was as tough a Qb any school could want. His ball throwing abilities are far better than his older brother but he is not as big. Monroe stands a really good chance to smack some people this year. Going 2-8 last year was good for this program. These seniors have been tough since little league and I feel they are destined for great things...on and off the field!!!

I think this will be the defining point for Monroe this year. If they can pull up there pants and play some football they will do really well in 2a this year. They have a tough schedule for the first half of the season and then it's a cakewalk through the district. I am so looking forward to playing BG and hopefully it does not destroy their motivation for the season. We keep telling these boys only 11 can play at a time. Bg's best 11 against our best 11!!!!

Monroe comes back healthy and hungry. They have a complete new attitude and look. They were blessed by the Bushong family with a gift of new helmets! $16000.00 worth! The program purchased new uniforms, equipment and a facility upgrade. 2014 was a humbling season for the players, coaches and fans as well. The injury bug bit the county hard! After many surgeries, and a lot of rehabilitation we are back to great health. Now onto the program....the Falcons will have a new offensive scheme and coordinator and players that have devoted the off season to improving. Head coach John Pettet moves back to the defensive side where he is an absolute brutal opponent for any team. Look for Monroe to get back to smash mouth football rather than the rear and finess. Returning alumni offensive player Billy Joe Murphy ( UK offensive starter and most versatile SEC linemen) takes the reigns at Offensive coordinator assisted by Brad Crowe which coached at the college level. You can look for some new schemes and hard hitting from the Falcons which bring most positions back from three year starters. I look for great things from this group in 2a this year. They open up with the BowlingGreen Purples at the Rafferty Bowl followed by a Warren East, 4a Allen County, 5a Barren County, 4a Franklin-Simpson, 6a north Hardin. Only 2a schools are district then they close the season with 3a Wayne county. Tough schedule for a school that is dressing 48 players

I have said it for years. A tough schedule prepares your team for a really good playoff run. Playing up only strengthens your team. Paducah Tihlman has done it for years. They can have a mediocre team and make a good playoff run. Your cupcake schedule is the first rounds of the playoffs! Yes good luck to all and I pray your school doesn't get bitten by the injury bug.

I know everyone thinks Mayfield will roll through 2a. But imo they will have some opponents come playoff time. I have always felt that 1a football has been dominated by them for awhile. 2a is a different beast. I am just really looking forward to seeing them Again in the playoffs. It been since 1989 when Monroe took a beating by the hands of them; ( my senior year) My son is now a senior and has heard the stories of old from all of us. Now I can truly live through his accomplishments..... And don't overlook Monroe County who moves back down into 2a. They return everyone from last season and are healthy. They had 19 out for season last year. Most of these boys have started since sophomores. Looks to be a very good hardnose program this year with a new look and change up in the coaching staff!!!! Monroe welcomes alumni Billy Joe Murphy who played at UK to the offensive side of the ball!!! Head coach John Pettet moves to the defensive side where he is a natural imho. Look for the whammy!!!
