tsyoung7
35-0 Monroe shuts out the Gators early in the third. Jv plays the rest of the third and freshman play the fourth. Very good showing for the extremely healthy Falcons...they have a new attitude and purpose!!! I do want to give Greenwoods kicker a big shout out!!! He kicked a 60yd field goal during warm ups and it had five to give through the middle of the uprights, even the Monroe fans were cheering for him. Awesome job young man!!! 2a is looking very tough this year!!!:sssh:
newarkcatholicfan
Is the kicker getting any college looks?
ATLCat
Tried to tell you all to not sleep on Monroe. Not saying they are going to come out and beat Bowling Green...but this is a 2A team I could see turning some heads.
Purple88
TS, was this at Greenwood or at Monroe County? I know Monroe is good, when you see a tight score with BG everyone else will know it too.
DragonFire
Scrimmage was at Monroe County. The primary killer for Greenwood is that they could not move the ball most of the varsity portion. I think in the first half they had two first downs, and one came via penalty. Monroe moved the ball a bit early on, but really broke out towards the end of the first quarter and for the entirety of the second quarter, scoring 28 points in the final 13 minutes of the half. You don't necessarily look to read too much into scrimmages, but I think it bodes well for Monroe County. I don't think I would go as far as to say they'll play Bowling Green tight. I think it does have to strike fear in the hearts on the Greenwood sideline when looking at the offensive performance.

Good points DFire! I was just trying to squelch the running clock by halftime crowd down a little bit.:thumb:

tsyoung7
I may be going to eat crow, but BG will not have a running clock on Monroe, anytime in the game. Will Monroe beat BG? It is not designed for a 2a school to be as competitive as a 5a. Could Mayfield beat BG? I will say the same thing. Will Monroe compete with their best 11...absolutely!!!!! W.E. Raider
Monroe is an excellent program with a top notch coach and is prone to great runs of kids. That said, BG is an absolute monster to play, and particularly early in the season when they play nobody both ways and are often rotating guys in constantly. If BG doesn't have the clock running against Monroe, count me as surprised. That prediction aside, a tough Monroe team is dangerous to EVERYONE in 2A. Doubletake1906
Monroe will be able to play with BG of they just keep them in front of them. Watching Bowling Green play Manual tonight, I saw Manual get beat simply because they kept blitzing, and BG would throw a screen pass right over their heads. This years BG squad is not as much of a verticle threat. They want to beat with short passes a lot like the Indianapolis Colts. Instead of rushing with their RBs they pass to them out of the backfield and let them make plays. I predict a close game in the first half, but BG pulls out in the 2nd winning by 21...
