Bluerunner Just curious, do you think this is a rule issue or an enforcement issue?

In the next couple of months, the NFHS will be releasing their proposed rule changes for the 2018 Football season. You will almost certainly see more stuff about safety and decreasing head injuries. Other POSSIBILITIES are changes to what we currently know as kick-offs and maybe even a 40 second play clock similar to college. What rule changes would you like to see or not see and what do they make sense?

In a rematch of last season's 3A State Finals Game, #1 Boyle County takes their 13-0 Record to Corbin to battle the 11-1 Red Hounds. This could be one of the best games in the state and has been an anticipated game since last December. Boyle County accomplished a rare feat to earn their ticket to the semis, walking our of Belfry with a win. The Boyle defense certainly had a right to walk with a swagger after limiting the high power Belfry offense well below their average points per game. Boyle County looks for their defense to lead the way and shut down Corbin's attack. Corbin punched their ticket in much the same manner. Bell County has scored more points than any other 3A team this season. Corbin's defense stepped up and limited that offense to 16 points. What are the key's to the game and who wins?

Central won Region 2 with their dominant defense recording the seventh shut-out of the year. Russell at times was able to string some good plays together only to have Central to shut the door quickly. Centrals offense Is not to be outdone and can score on any play. One of Centrals big playmaker's Mykah Williams suffering a first half injury against Russell. Hopefully he will be okay. Larue gets to the Semis by way of an upset win over Elizabethtown. Larue is having to earn everything they get through this year's playoffs. They are averaging 44 points a game through the playoffs but are also allowing 33 a game. What are the keys to the game? Who wins?

Two 11-1 teams battling for the regional championship this is how it was meant to be. Corbin's only blemish is to 2A power Mayfield. Bell County's only blemish is to Corbin. Don't think that Bell County has forgotten that either. Corbin County comes into this game with success on both sides of the ball. Their defense has allowed a combined 44 points in the last 6 games. In that same stretch their offense has scored 257 points. Corbin's game plan is to continue this trend, score a bunch and don't allow many. Bell County has found a lot of success with Coach Hilton guiding their offensive talents. They have scored more than 45 points in 7 of their 12 games this season. In fact, they have been held under 36 points only one time this season. That one time was in Corbin. Bell County looks to make some adjustments and have the engine firing this week. Who wins and why?

Since October 13, Larue County players have been waiting a rematch. Waiting on a rematch with the Elizabethtown team that came to Larue County and gave then a 42-14 defeat. In round 3, Larue gets what they want. Will it turn out better for them or will it be more of the same? Elizabethtown comes into the game at 8-4. Not a bad record when you see they started their season with 3 strong opponents and an 0-3 record. Since then they have been stepping things up, scoring over 40 points 5 of the 9 games since. They look to score early and often in this game to try to get the knockout early. Larue County does not specialize in defense. In their last 5 games, they have allows 24.8 points a game. They will have to step up and make some stops against E-Town. The Larue County offense is quite capable of scoring points, averaging 33.6 points a game over the last 5. Who wins and why?

If successful coaching is your thing, then this is the game for you. Phillip Haywood and Chuck Smith, two legendary coaches. Between the two 624 wins, 12 state Championships, and a lifetime 78.2 win percentage. Each will try to have their team ready to advance. Belfry is 10-2. Their losses have been to WV Large Division power Huntington High and 4A #1 Johnson Central. Scouting Belfry is not really necessary as their schema has not changed in years. Their plan is basic and their execution is near perfect. Belfry likes to score. They have been held to less than 40 points only 4 times this season. Their biggest concern headed into this week would have to be their defense fresh off Lexington Catholic strong offensive performance by land and by air. They will have to step up their defensive game to be able to move on to the semi-finals. Boyle County is a perfect 12-0 coming into this contest. Boyle County likes to score and also likes to make sure you don't. They have scored at least 40 points in all but 3 games this season. They also have only allowed their opponents to score more than 14 points 3 times. Boyle hasn't had a close game since a 21-14 victory on Sept 21. Boyle County will certainly get points. The key factor of this game will be if Boyle keeps Belfry out of the endzone. Who wins and why?

After starting the season 0-3, discouragement was high around the Russell fan-base. However, the players never bought in to it. They continued pressing towards a goal, winning 8 of their last 9 and now hosting 3A Powerhouse Central. Central suffered a couple of early set-backs as well. However, Central losses came to 6A top 10 teams, St X and Ballard, games that Central was in position to win. Russell's defense has been solid most of the year however their offense has been suspect, going through droughts when they were unable to move the ball. It seems like Russell RB Landon Duvall will be able to return Friday night after sitting out two weeks with a hamstring issue. Russell will certainly need him. While Central has few flaws there defense is their crown jewel. In the last 6 games, Central has allowed only 12 points total. The only times this season the have allowed 10 points or more was against St X and Ballard. Central will be bringing their charter buses (and hopefully a pan of catfish )across the state for a 3.5 hour drive to Russell. Weather will be cold but at this point the forecast is showing a dry night. Who wins and why?

This game features the best combined record of any of the 3A playoffs games this week. Combined, these teams are 19-3. Powell County takes their 9-2 record to Corbin this week. The teams have 1 common opponent this season, Morgan County. Corbin defeated Morgan 54-16 while Powell beat them 34-22. Powell County is tuning up their defense, allowing only 14 points in the last two weeks. This defense will be much needed as Corbin scores early and often. Corbin's lowest points in a game this season is 21 (Beechwood and Mayfield). What are the keys to the game and who wins?

The battle of the mountains goes into Round 2. #8 Bell County, 10-1 on the year travels to Breathitt County, 8-3. The teams have 2 common opponents this year as Breathitt County defeated Estill County 40-22 and McCreary Central 7-6. Bell County defeated Estill County 61-14 and McCreary County 61-0. Dudley Hilton's Bell County team really enjoys scoring as that have put up more than 60 points in two of their last three games. Breathitt County is fresh off of a defensive struggle with McCreary County with only 13 points between both teams scored. What are the keys to this game and who wins?

In what could be the game of the week across the state, Lexington Catholic, 8-3, travels east to 9-2 Belfry. Neither team has shied away from competition this season. Lexington Catholics' losses are to 5A Highlands, 2A Desales, and 3A Boyle County. Belfry's losses are to highly rated in WV Huntington High and 4A #1 Johnson Central. The teams have 2 common opponents this season. Belfry defeated Garrard Count 42-0 and Pike County Central 47-6. Lexington Catholic defeated Garrard County 39-22 and Pike County Central 58-18. This will be a great game and a tremendous environment. There are few places in the state that are more enjoyable to watch a game in than CAM Stadium. What are the keys to the game and who wins?

Bardstown has a tough task in round 2 as they attempt to knock off a powerful Central team. Bardstown comes into the game at 6-5 while Central is 9-2. These teams met on Oct 12 at Bardstown with Central getting a convincing win 45-6. Bardstown will be trying to do something that most teams have not had much luck with this year, scoring points on Central. Only 2 teams have scored more than 9 points on Central, 6A Ballard and 6A St X. What are the keys and who wins?
