  1. QB not in front of couch, but not far behind: Bill Allen, Morgan County. OL Nate McPeek, Russell RB Arliss Beach, Ashland WR Chris Lofton, Mason County WR Gerad Parker, Lawrence County Just a couple of thoughts.
  2. When my nephews went away to college, my brother's house was suddenly empty. The TV and living room furniture had found its way to the nephews' apartment. Dishes gone, tables gone, everything that my brother had for years had now relocated. 3A for next season seems the same way. Gone are Boyle Co, Central, Corbin, Lex Cath. On the surface it seems only a handful of teams can challenge for a spot at Kroger Field. From the west (at least I THINK they are west) You have CAL and Desales. In the East you have Belfry. Are there others that can make a strong push to be at Kroger field next season?
  3. Wow, 4A is going to be some fun football this year.
  4. If we want more scoring how about this.... When a team is on defense, one of their players has to run and stand out of bounds, not participating in defense. Then we would always have 5 on 4. Should help scoring. Obviously I am kidding. Just going for a smile.
  5. 2 minutes to go in the regional championship, only down 12 that is still a ball game. I say we get our panties out of a wad and play ball. Also I agree with Beechwood fan that I have more trouble with running up the score in Regular Season games. In my opinion, once you get to the playoffs, leave no doubt.
  6. This is kind of true. Make no mistake all Championship officials are near the top in their position/region. They may not be the top, but their performance has been very good for the year. There are a few other factors that come into play such as if they have been before and a few others.
  7. There are limited ready for play whistles in college and NFL. With the 40 second clock, while I have not yet seen the details of how it will work, I would think there will be limited ready for play whistles here as well. So this rule is a good point, how will this rule be impacted? Guess we will find out in a few months.
  8. Yes still need the 5 interior. It mostly comes into play when a team doesn't have 11 players on the field. When I would see this most is punts. Many high school teams have problems getting there 11 punt team members on the field. So if one of the lineman did not make it on and they punted with 10 players, while it would not create an advantage, it would be a penalty on the kicking team for illegal formation. Now it will not.
  9. 7.5.2 States: ART. 5 . . . Player formation and numbering requirements include: a. At the snap, at least seven A players shall be on their line of scrimmage. b. At the snap, at least five A players on their line of scrimmage must be numbered 50-79
  10. Agree with the jerseys and they are getting harder and harder to read. On the play clock, most crews strive to have the ball set 13-15 seconds after if becomes dead, add the 25 or so seconds and you are right at the 40 seconds. Don't think we will notice much of a difference honestly.
  11. That one, I think, is safe to say will not be adopted in Kentucky anytime soon.
  12. @Voice of Reason These changes from the NFHS has been announced in the last couple of days. No reason to suspect KY will not adopt, but I guess time will tell. The changes I see are: 1) 40 second play clock 2) Horse collar definition expanded to include the name plate area 3) Tripping the runner is now a person foul 4) Penalty for Illegal kicking/batting changed from 15 yards to 10 yards 5) Part of rule 1 changed to allow states the option of adding Instant Replay to post season games 6) There are 2 changes to the cosmetics of the numbers on the jerseys/ These will not implement until 2023-2024 Again these changes were approved by NFHS, not yet by KHSAA
  13. Looks like the NFHS has approved a 40 second play clock in High School football. It is early in the game and I am sure details will be forthcoming. It looks like it will mirror the college rule on it. There will be some bumps early but I think it will have a limited effect. Thoughts? http://nfhs.org/articles/40-second-play-clock-postseason-instant-replay-among-football-changes/
  14. Time out Greenup. 1:06 left in 2nd. 38-17 Russell. Bectel with 2 -3 pointers and 2 rebounds last 2 possessions
  15. Time out Greenup. 3:51 left in the 2nd qtr. 29-16 Russell
  16. The only variation there is if the pass is past the line of scrimmage or not.
  17. Bluerunner Just curious, do you think this is a rule issue or an enforcement issue?
  18. In the next couple of months, the NFHS will be releasing their proposed rule changes for the 2018 Football season. You will almost certainly see more stuff about safety and decreasing head injuries. Other POSSIBILITIES are changes to what we currently know as kick-offs and maybe even a 40 second play clock similar to college. What rule changes would you like to see or not see and what do they make sense?
