  1. As WC fans, my wife and I are glad we stayed home to give out candy to trick-or-treaters! Watched the game on woodfordsports.com and it didn't look any prettier there for the Jackets. Their D has become more than a little suspect against the run, that's for sure. Congrats to a very good and underrated Whitley Co. team. Wonder how Meade Co.'s running attack is? I know one thing for sure, that's a tough place to play, their fans aren't the most welcoming sorts? A few years back when we got out of our car there a few told us to get back to WC!
  2. It wasn't always a pretty game, quite a few flags and quite a few stalled drives, but the Jackets easily prevailed. Franklin Co.'s passing game was better than I expected, but WC bottled up the FC running attack. WC again relied on the pass and Duckworth running the QB draw with success. As always, he was solid and cool under pressure. WC running back and DB Jordan Carter left before the half with what appeared to be some sort of ankle injury, hopefully not too serious.
  3. JC's athletic level is impressive. They are fast and they are fit, you can tell they've hit the weights and have worked at staying tight harder than WC over the summer. No fat on those lads, only muscle, and in H.S. football that speed makes an incredible difference. I'm a big WC fan, but this program still has a ways to go to be at a top level. The WC guys play their butts off, fight hard, and are talented...but they need a WHOLE lot better offseason conditioning.
  4. Is this game at 8 p.m. instead of 7:30? Says so on the KHSAA Scoreboard. If so, just wondered why? Thanks for replies.
  5. Only because of home field advantage. Should be a great game with the District title on the line. Special teams play and field position often wins or loses it in close games like this one should be.
  6. As a WC fan, I can say the Jackets were lucky to escape without going into overtime, as Bryan Station fumbled on the 1-yeard line with I believe 20 seconds to go in the game. These are two quality teams, both with very explosive offenses and solid D, but they both REALLY need to cut down on the mental lapses and turnovers. WC vs. Johnson Central at WC Community Stadium next Friday night should be a dandy! Another top-notch game for WC QB Duckworth, other than a misjudgment sideline pass that was picked off, and Jordan Carter is an all-around great player. The Station has some big-time running weapons though...watch out if you play them down the road!
  7. As a St. X alum whose kid played at LexCath (Catholic grade school kid who was NOT "recruited"), I can only tell you it seems that it's pretty much the same at every one of the KY schools with what you might call "elite" sports programs. Public or private doesn't matter. I'm from Indiana and public high school basketball (Southern Indiana) and football (Northern Indiana) "recruiting" there is MUCH WORSE! Those IN football powerhouses (Carmel, Penn, Ben Davis) make Indianapolis Cathedral look like rank amateurs! IMHO it seems most of this starts in the off-season (summer) programs. Coaches, whether it be at private or public schools, simply let the talented kids in those programs know they would be "welcome" to enroll at their school. And with private schools, that's easy enough, no moving involved! I've seen some pretty good athletes at St. X and LC warm their butts on the bench because of public school transfers, but I guess "that's life in the big leagues" as they say.
  8. Woodford Co. kicks. It seems like the Lexington and Louisville area schools would all have a decent placekicker with all the youth soccer in those cities! Those soccer moms should be telling their kids to play pup football anyway! 8^)
  9. Don't know much about Bryan Station other than they drilled Dunbar, which I suppose isn't saying much? According to all the power ratings, Bryan Station should be a slight favorite (like one or two points) largely because of home field advantage, if not, it'd be a pick 'em. WC's defense is very tough, so BS won't score tons IMHO. GO JACKETS!!!!
  10. Revenge! WC dominated both the O and D lines and really outmanned Montgomery Co. I believe WC was only penalized once or twice, they played flawlessly on O except for a silly short throw pick by Duckworth and another pick on a long pass near the end of the 2nd quarter by soph backup QB Garrahan. WC played well enough tonight to be very competitive against the big dogs...I'm certainly not saying they could beat LexCath, St. X or Trinity, but tonight they would have been at least competitive. Good blocking, very very few mental errors and really great special team and defensive play. RB Nick Nicholson also had an good game, and as always, so did Jordan Carter, who also threw a beautiful long TD pass on an end-around option. Whoever's calling WC's offensive plays, on the field or in the booth, did a super job, they really exploited MC's weaknesses. John Hardin HS was complimented by the WC win...it makes them look even better. I don't see the Jackets getting beat anytime soon...they seem to be getting better with each snap and playing with a lot of confidence.
  11. I left near the end of the 3rd quarter, WC on top 49-0, and I think they scored again while I was still in the parking lot! WC dominated both the O and D lines and really outmanned Montgomery Co. I believe WC was only penalized one time, they played flawlessly on O except for a silly short throw pick by Duckworth and another pick on a long pass near the end of the 2nd quarter by soph backup QB Garrahan. 12. Does anyone know if the Lexington Herald-Leader posts HS football ratings on their website? After much searching I (finally!) found the Litratings on the Courier-Journal website, and MaxPreps is good too, but I'd like to compare. In the Woodford Co.-Montgomery Co. game there's a big discrepancy between Litratings and MaxPreps on the power rating for each. Thanks for the help!
  13. Just glad the Woodford Co. game later this year is in Community Stadium in Versailles, FC must be very explosive.
  14. Woodford's QB Duckworth went out with a twisted ankle and as the game was getting away, they didn't risk putting him back in. WC lost a lot of defense and it was apparent, but JH is solid.
