2008 Harlan County
There could be a big announcement concerning the schools in Harlan Co in the next weeks, if things go well it might be one of the best things to happen for football in a very long time. It also might just send a message that things are changing for the better in our neck of the woods. I can't get into specifics for it may cause something to go wrong and that would be terrible.

What's the one thing you want to see from the 2008 season?
I'd like to see this first year for the Harlan County Black Bears, team and community unity! We want to win!! Success breeds success. Best of luck to Coach Tom Larkey, his coaching staff, and the young men coming together to make history for our county this year. They'll be many to follow after, but you guys will always be the first!!!! Make this year count! :thumb:

Dylan Smith - Sophmore HCHC Black Bears He is fast !- Harlan County and Bell County fans.
Wonderful idea! I like the way you are thinking.:thumb: I don't think ad sales will be a problem. Bell County and Harlan County love their football. Perhaps a corporate sponsorship would help? hmmmm- Harlan County and Bell County fans.
This post also proves the point I have been trying to make at my house for years....basketball players require more skill then say baseball or football players. I'm kidding of course.- Harlan County and Bell County fans.
You have a misunderstanding. Rest assured, there is only one captain driving our ship in Harlan County. What you have been reading is a bunch of fans wishing and hoping about games in the future. General Larkey runs our troops!! We are just a bunch of fans throwing out a bunch of "you know what might work" and "what if's". No worries here in Harlan, things are only gonna get better!!- 2008 Harlan County
I betcha that "Loretta" could be made into a reality. The Coal Mining Museum has some of her belongings that she has donated. Somebody up in Cumberland knows somebody, who knows somebody.....Somebody get Loretta on the phone!!! Tell her we need her to sing at our first home game. We want the Breathitt County fans to not be totally disappointed when they go home. :sssh: Might as well start the smack talk, if ya ain't got nothin', ya ain't got nuthin' to lose.- 2008 Harlan County
I heard a noise outside my house this morning and I stepped out back and there was a large hungry black bear. He was turning over garbage cans that we keep chicken feed in. All at once this hungry bear tore out running straight toward me. I froze! It came charging down that hill and ran right by me, grabbed one of the boys football off my back porch and the last I seen him he was headed South toward Ball Park Road looking for that goal line!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These black bears in Harlan County are getting hungry for some FOOTBALL!!!!- Breathitt Co., Estill Co., Fleming Co., Harlan Co.?
I can feel it too lungbuster!!! I can gaurantee that when they come to Harlan County that they will remember our fans!!! :ylsuper: This bunch of boys wants to win!!!- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
I guess saying their "clock" has started clicking is an assumption. At the very least, if an 8th grader plays, scrmmages, or practices with a kid that is above the 10th grade then they are violating the rules. It doesn't say what the penalty will be. Kids under grade nine (9) "..may not participate (practice, scrimmage, or play) in any non-varsity (freshment, junior varsity, ect.) level teams in football or soccer if any member of the team they are representing or the team they are competing against is enrolled in any grade above grade ten(10)..." http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw4.pdf This rule is "news to me" so I can very well be wrong. I'd never heard this before.- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08

It goes on to say that it is the school who is allowing the 8th grader to play's responsiblity to make sure that this happens. I could 100% be wrong on this. Like I said, it's confusing, but I interpret that to mean if you are an 8th grader and you play, scrimmage or practice with juniors and up, then your clock has started ticking....if you get caught. lol http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw4.pdf- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
That's a good question. Also isn't it kinda risky to do this as an 8th grader. As I have read the rules now, if a junior steps onto the field , say during a JV game, then your 8th grader's high school clock starts ticking. Bye Bye to their senior year. I guess I am gonna say the understatement of the year.... the KHSAA rules are very confusing sometimes.- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
"shall not apply to non-varsity teams" AHA! There it is!- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
Maybe that's just what we've been taught in our part of the state. I keep reading over and over about these 8th graders playing on Freshmen teams and JV teams and I always thought, as you, that it wasn't legal. I thought that you had 4 years of high school football. But there is also this big indepth rule about "limitaion of seasons" and yet we see very clearly that most all the high schools in Kentucky play "Summer basketball ball" as teams with their coach. So I guess what I am asking is, where's the loop hole to the 4 year rule?- Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
Coach4life this is a tad off topic, but I am really confused about the rules concerning 8th graders playing up in football. I thought that you couldn't, and now I am hearing different things. Could somebody give me a simplified explanation and give me a link to the rules concerning this? Thanks- 2008 Bell County
What position does this Davenport kid play? I don't recall that name. The Harlan County Black Bear Freshmen team is stacked!! I hope he's a hard worker! I wouldn't think that "favors" happens much in Bell Co. Just an outsiders opinion, but I don't think Dudley would have the success he has had playing favors. - Who are the best freshmen and sophomores in 08
